NYE show.
What a disapointment.  I saw these guys open for Kings of Leon, and was not impressed to put it nicely.

I'll be calling ticketmaster trying to get a refund tomorrow.

oh dude, go. The Secret Machines are one kickass live show. Definitely more of an arena show than the Jacket. I love MMJ, but I can't stand the thought of seeing em in such a huge venue. Secret Machines, on the other hand, they're so much of an impersonal performance-based band that an arena show is exactly the venue they were made for. I saw them at Bonnaroo and was blown away. These guys are meant to be untouchable, on some far away stage playing music that isn't meant to be extremely personal, but moving in its own right. Definitely worth seeing at MSG.

I saw SM open up for KOL 2x within a week. I agree with Tom here, they are best on a stage far, far away.... :-/
I suggest we shoot them into space so their next gig will be as far away as possible.

My wife and neice were physically ill after their set.

Tom, you weren't on acid and mushrooms at Bonaroo, were you?  ???

dragonboy

Now Here Is Nowhere is an amazing album.
I'd love to see the Secret Machines live & with the Black Crowes? Wow...
God will forgive them. He'll forgive them and allow them into Heaven.....I can't live with that.

very good live band, i unfortunatly missed them at Bonnaroo but saw them with the Kings at the Ryman Auditorium.
Hold my life until I'm ready to use it

tomEisenbraun

haha, cmon Tracy. These guys have a really great vibe to em, but they are the kind of band that belongs in a big venue. Their sound is not small. And they might actually work pretty kickass in space. I would love to see that.

I need to make you listen to their stuff another time, bro.

I saw them twice.

2 times within a week.

Deuce.

All they did was build and build and build and build and...  poof...nothing.

Just didn't do it for me.  Probably the further you're away from the stage, the more you can be distracted by the pretty lights and less by the pretentious keyboard player drinking red wine (from the "proper" glass, I might add). Very rock and roll.

this thread topic is very neutral, so i guess this criticism is acceptable.

I also saw them at Bonnaroo and was surprised to find out that I still had the sense of sight at the end of the concert.  I think Govt Mule is performing in NY the same night.  They should just combine the shows. NMAS, Mule, and the Crowes...that would be a rockin show.

you're right Tom, my only hope for understanding SM is senility  ;)

Now if you want to talk about RUSH...

Dee.

The Secret Machines, AKA the band that almost killed my sister.  Ha!  Whoa!  They're just a tinge overwhelming, huh?   :o

Don't stand right in front of them in a small club.  No, that just won't do.  The lights + volume are better experienced in a far away land, you're right.  And what you said about them being impersonal is true, too.  I don't even remember if they said hello.  I hate when bands don't address the audience.   Maybe they really are aliens..

ya know what, maybe MSG is set to catch fire that night and this is the cosomos' way of warning everyone to stay away... i think they should take the hint.
and also, i saw the secret machines open for interpol and thought they were intense. i did think that the no-talking-to-the-audience was a little snooty...
everything sucks. really.
