Hi Guys
Im just so excited, I have read lots of the threads and wondering how many Canadians are on this site? Is anyone going too the opening nite on the 9th?
I got tickets but were stuck in the 300 level... but who cares MMJ is playing.....YIPEE ;D

Yeah baby, opening night of PJ's tour, MMJ hittin' the stage first! I got my tickets through the Ten Club so I don't know exactly where I'm sitting yet, but they seem to scope out the best sections in front and directly to the side of the stage for us, so I'm hoping for something great!

most definitely, im from new jersey, usa, but i'll be up there for the opening night...i'm in section 309! any recommendations for hostels in toronto?

EC

there is a terrific hostel called global backpackers at the corner of king and spadina.  it's great. :)  the streetcar can take you straight from there to university ave., which will be a short walk to the air canada centre.

be prepared.  the streetcar is 2.75 and they don't make change.    or you can buy tickets or whatever.  feel free to pm me with toronto questions, all y'all.  :)

some "days inn by the beach" they call it i think? its 4 km from downtown apparently. my buddy arranged it. i dont mind at all, i just need a place to rest my head for a few hours after a crazy night on the town, post MMJ/PJ. not that its getting so close, im starting to get the butterflies in my stomach already!!! ive seen PJ so i know what to expect, but ive only HEARD MMJ live, never seen em. even though its just an opening gig, im sure it will kick ass

that's cool.  you're on queen street which has a 24 hour streetcar.  and you're near the beaches, which is a nice part of town.  :)

Billo, you're near fatherhood (3rd time!) earns you seventeen thousand cheers!  Holy moly, good luck to you.  :)

This reminds me that I was thinking of listing helpful things for people coming from out of town.  So let me see what's off the top of my head:

1.  As mentioned, transit is $2.75 (do i need to say that that's in canadian dollars?  ;)) They won't make change, but if you're thinking of taking it more than a couple of times, you might want to split a ten pack of tickets/tokens with friends.  As opposed to other cities, our transit system is great.  Reliable, clean, etc.  If you're a woman, you can ask them to make special stops for you if it's dark, and they'll do it.

Cabs can be found just about everywhere.  They're not cheap, but they're not insane.  You can't smoke in them at all anymore, though.  You can't smoke anywhere.  Not even on patios, now.  Hell balls.

2.  Hostels:  Again, as mentioned the best one is Global Backpackers at King and Spadina.  I noticed one today on Dundas West, but I warn you, it didn't look too good.  You can also check with University of Toronto and Ryerson campuses to see if any kids have left by then - sometimes they'll rent out dorm rooms for pretty reasonable.

3.  Hotels:  Around the Air Canada Centre, hotels are expensive.  But you can find good deals every once in a while.  You're better to look in the West End (West of Spadina) or the East End (East of, oh let's say Parliament) to get a better rate.

4.  Food.  Listen, the ACC has food, but it's fucking expensive.  If you're coming from the States, you will completely freak at the prices.  (Unless you live in New York, in which case you'll say "Wow, that's so reasonable!")  There's a restaurant within walking distance from the ACC at the corner of University and Front (S/W corner) called Casey's.  It's not fancy by any means, but it's reasonable and they're nice people.  I used to work there.  They have 12 beers on tap.  (Or at least they used to.)  If you can't stand generic, franchise restaurants (even though this one is a nice one of that sort), I recommend hitting Front Street between Yonge and Church.  It's a good half hour walk, but you'll find better food, especially if you've got food issues.  C'est What is my favourite (Front and Church).  They have tonnes of interesting options and loads of awesome microbrewery beer.  Plus they're cool.  There's also an asian place around there, and it's called Spring Rolls  They have lots of healthy options.  There's tonnes around there.

5.  If you're American.  You'll be able to use your money, but just so you know, it's a pain in the ass for servers.  Just warning you.  If you use it, it's nice to leave large quantities of it for your server.  ;)

Okay.  Toronto is a fun and safe town.  I think we're generally nice, and if you're staying more than overnight, there's tonnes to do, and I would recommend checking out our NOW or eye free magazines which can be found in most coffee shops/restaurants and street corners.

I'm pretty stoked for the show.  Opening nights on tours are awesome.

the days inn at the beaches is not a bad hotel. But i didnt know you get a room for 40 bucks there, thats crazy. Cab ride from there to the acc will be about 15 bucks depending on traffic. I live in that neighborhood.
