Just got back from the Roseland show and all I can say, is Wow!
A few thoughts from the show and then the setlist (not necessarily in this order):
-Jim's new "moon boots" are a riot.
-I almost didn't recognize Two Tone with his new hair-do.
It's really weird seeing him with shorter locks.
-Sometimes I miss the MMJ of old, but if there's anyone out   there who doesn't think that Carl Broemel isn't one of the most  talented musicians out there right now, I have to say I think  you're sorely mistaken.  The saxophone?  Are you kidding me?
-Following up that, MMJ simply kicked ass tonight.  In a
notoriously bad venue, they showed why they are the best
live act going right now.

Did they close with WWM? I know you said that it wasn't in order. But that would be different.

-From another thread.

This was the first time seeing them headline. WOW Blown away. It's true they made Roseland an acceptable place to play.  My fear is that they are 1 to 2 years away from an arena tour and the days of "pushing up front" are over. They are such an incredible band. I wish nothing but the best for MMJ.

Roseland is a crummy venue, but it has character. I think it fit the band pretty well. Hammerstein Ballroom was another venue that fits the band pretty well. (Saw them for the first time opening for the Foo there a few years back)

Actually a GREAT venue in NYC that has killer sound and is rather new is the NOKIA Theater, just down the street from Roseland.
It's convenient and has a cool vibe even for being a new venue.

Next time they come back, hope they play there!

Best. Time. Ever!!!  Bravo to the band & sound engineer.  It sounded sooo good. When the curtain dropped the crowd just lost it.  :D Jumping up and down like a chimpanzee has never been more funner. HellBalls, I even got to smoke!  ;D

Someone posted this on a Longhorn forum last night. It has a youtube link to the curtain dropping...

...so tonight as we gathered for pre-game we watched the dvd of radiohead's show at the astoria from '94. see it if you can, it's fucking great. great to hear them introduce songs off the bends as "here's another new one". awesome to see all those songs with bigger guitar heroics. and see a band so on top of their game and tight just explode on stage. my friend remarked that he wished we were going to see that show.

well, I thought we saw a better show than that one.

holy fucking shit.

what a great show. I am so wearing my new t-shirt tomorrow. they keep getting better every time I see them. such a big powerful rock and roll engine... here's how they took the stage and revved it up:

"let me tell you what melba toast is packing..."

The show was incredible. I was absolutely blown away. I wish I would have gotten tickets for the philly show too, I would drive down there in a second to go see them tonight again.

Just remember what they played last night, they'll play the same thing tonight  ;)

Is where I wanna make my home......

I'd watch them play the same thing every single night of my life.

Great, let them play the exact same setlist.  I for one would welcome this kind of redundancy if it means getting my balls completely rocked for another 3 hours.

The proof is in the pudding my friend...

No offense (and I loved the show last night), but I wouldn't put it up there on the same transcendent level as I've seen them before.  The sound was pretty good, and the setlist was not bad (much better than when I saw them at in Boston on the Z tour)....

I guess it will really take a lot to reach the heights of B'Roo '04 (near-Religious experience up at the barricade in front of gym), B'Roo '06 (obviously), but even nights like Irving Plaza 2 back in June of '04.

Anyway, they're still great all the time, but I didn't think this show ranked with some of their best.

From the list in NYC that turned me on to MMJ:

Sick show, my first time and I thought it was unbelievable. What a great rock show, the definiteion of a rock show. The hype around these guys is enormous,
and yet they totally surpassed even with wildest expectations I had.

superb show and i've seen em a bunch o times this year. i don't think it's so useful to compare to other shows as there are always nice little touches. crowd was way into it pretty much all the way through. the only negative comment i heard was from this guy behind me during nashville to kentucky when he yelled 'what's this shit?' but he was pretty out of touch in general and using my back, head and shoulders the whole night as a drum set.  would have been more amusing if he could keep a beat. here are some pics. was a little late getting into town but easily got close enough to smell jim's sweat (too bad it was mixed with the perspiration of some less than desirables around me).

Everyone has a photographic memory. Some don't have film.

I was thinking the same thing, my friend.  I wasn't sure if they'd play it, but when they did, well........that was just the icing on the cake.

jibboodude

the show was stunning

I have to admire the band's energy- these guys just love to play
I thought that  Steam Engine was it
Then they did Dancefloors...and I figured that was it
And they did Magheetah...and I figured there was no way they were going to do another one
But then they did a killer Anytime
They just love to play, it was if they didn't really want to end the show

The lights were killer

One of the best openers I've ever seen (the sheet was so badass)

Jim James is a god...I think he was programed to be a rockstar- he's so good at what he does
Carl is an incredible musician
Patrick is a real-life Animal....and he's sick at the drums

The show was what a great rock show should be- I left feeling better about everything and everyone...I was uplifted. And I don't even care that I still have a buzzing in my left ear 24 hours later.  It was just that good

MMJ own. Period.
