Scalping is still illegal in KY.  I mean you could buy them up and sell them on ebay.  But, peddling them at more that face value at the show will get you arrested.  It should be that way nation wide.

Quotewhat also should happen is the poor fucker that buys these ticksts on ebay for $900 should be fine also.

So when the show is on, the FBI or whom ever walks to those seat, Row 00, seat 4.5,6,7 Mezz 1 & says "where did you buys these ticket", then they get hauled away, miss the show, then spend a few nights in jail, so that way people will here about it & will never buy from ebay etc etc

This is just my own opinion. If you ever were to spend 900 big ones to see ANYONE ANYWHERE ,then it's one or two things...your wealthy or stupid....Really, even if you miss the show, chances are somebody's recording.

QuoteI was curious to see how many tickets made it onto ebay and other ticket sites. Stub hub has over 200 tickets right now from $85 to $648. Crazy! 200 tickets that could have gone to people who got shut out. I feel so lucky to have gotten a ticket today, because there is absolutely no way I could afford to buy a ticket otherwise.
DAMN   BAN STUB HUB THAT"S F#$%ING BS >:(

Thanks for posting that upstatestruggler. The example of the Streisand concert at MSG only having an estimated 50% of the total house seats available to the public after everyone had skimmed their share is shocking. Great post.

I feel pretty lucky to have snagged a couple seats.

QuoteI sense some serious shenanigans in the surreptitious stockpiling of sweet tickets by scalpers.

Say that five times fast!

With regards to ticket scalping, I am OK with being able to sell your ticket for as much as you want.  Why should it be different then any other commodity?  HOWEVER, the scalpers are obtaining tickets somehow illigally with bribes and other unscrupulous methods, and THIS I have a HUGE problem with.
I'm digging, digging deep in myself, but who needs a shovel when you have a little boy like mine.

I'm almost certain that there are some sophisticated computer programs in existence that are able to submit 100s of requests/sec, bypass the protective phrase, and probably even purchase designated tickets.

Either way, something needs to change.

You know, if DeBeers can lose a giant class action settlement, there's a chance TicketBastard will have their day as well.

What a joke.

If I only selected TWO tix instead of one.  Shoulda had some coffee this am.

Word, I believe in capitalism to the max, but it sucks when you click on at exactly 10:00 AM and it already says there are no tickets?  How?  Whatever; I submitted a best offer on ebay for exactly face value!  My wife said, "You are wasting your time because you know they are not going to accept."  That's OK, I am letting them know that I know ;), and I promised myself I was not going to get mad because there is nothing I can do about it.  I feel like this instance was pure luck, even though I usually hate the term "luck".  Then again, if it is legal, how can you argue with charging what the market will bear?

well.  didn't expect the show to be sold out already.

so, what if someone gets shut out and has no other choice than to pay say $150 or $200 for a pair of tickets on ebay? you still want to throw a hefty fine at them for that? yeah, that would REALLY show 'em. look, i know what would help eliminate the prob is NOT buying anything from the scalpers, but if i really want to see a show and miss the ticket sale or get shut out like many others did today, then i'll pay a little extra. this isn't some utopia and personally i don't want government sticking their paws and laws on things to that degree. that said, there's gotta be something that can be done. i smell mafia all over this...

Hi guys- just wanted to let you know that as of now I have two extra tix, and even though this show is so far away and I do have friends that will probably want to come, knowing that I bought more than I probably need I will FOR SURE put them up here if I should not need them. Just posting this so that people will check back over the next few months and not be too upset about not getting tix yet-- I know I was pretty freakin upset last week when I got shut out like everyone else since I haven't seen them since down in the catskills a couple summers ago. Just hoping to keep some folks hopes up!

Sorry for another post, but the thing that got me started on this was that the Arcade fire (another ridiculously sought after show to see) was pretty crazy awhile ago with there ticket policy. Basically you had to have an ID (and maybe your credit card too?) with you that matched the name on your tix (I think) and while that might have protected against scalping I thought it was kinda ridiculous because if you wanted to give your buddy your tix you would have to go down there with him or forfeit your ID for the night. Sorry if any of that was inaccurate but its hard when you see scalpers out there and see what other alternatives bands have taken and wonder what will really will ever work. Some out there have fan groups and mail-ins and lottery systems and sometimes you get good tix and sometimes bad (phish, DMB), but I really don't think MMJ selling out here really has anything to do with scalpers--I think these guys have blown up since the last time I was able to see them (damn you medschool) which is awesome for them, but who doesn't hate it just a little when their favorite band becomes popular, despite how much you always tell everyone about them-- we all here know, they are IT.

Elizanne33

Congratulations to the band because it is really exciting to have a sold out show at radio city music hall :)

However, I'm still hung up on all the ticket brokers. I did a search to see how many websites had tickets and I found 10 different sites. Then of course there is also ebay and craigslist so make that 12. There are close to 1000 tickets being sold between all of these sites.

yes, its absolutely awesome for them, there was obviously a lot of interest in this show.  but i absolutely have to disagree on your thinking that the scalpers had nothing to do with many fans being unable to get tickets for this show.  As Elizanne pointed out, a little research shows nearly 20% of the tickets that were available for the show are being sold by scalpers already.  And if you look around, many of these are the better seats.

Now obviously the scalpers also recognized the popularity of this show, and that played a role in their snatching up so many tickets... and yes, this show would've sold out without them. Its just  disappointing that its the scalpers that are going to be making the big bucks on this show, when the band tried to keep all the ticket prices reasonable for their fans.  I think this is what the people who got shut out  for this show are upset about, and rightly so.

Yep, and the band sees 0% of the profit being made by these scalpers.

I agree with your sediments, but lots of times the Ticket Brokers are apart of a network of brokers and have 1 giant pool of tickets to see, that is why you often see the same tickets for sale by different places.

Though brokers are the worst think, becuase they are legal scalpers...
