...but I got a feeling that they open for Radiohead for some or all of the U.S. tour.  I would absolutely lose my shit.

- Radiohead booked May dates only here, while May is the only month that MMJ has NOT booked.

- They are new label buddies.

- As far as sound and degree of popularity, I think it is a great fit.

...Am I missing something big that is for or against this theory?

Please tell me there's a chance!

I hope you're wrong.  Nothing against Radiohead by any means, but this would be step backwards in my opinion.

It all makes sense, but I must agree with my Pensacola friend - they've moved beyond "opening act" or "special guest" status.  Allthough I just changed my mind after actually looking at the dates.  May 6 in Tampa.  I just put a big line through May 7 on my calendar.
I'm not saying it's easy...walking into sweet oblivion.

I definitely understand where you are coming from, but I believe it would still be huge for them.  Given Radiohead's buzz right now, I think it could only help, in a big way.  Jacket could play eight shows at huge venues without sacrificing their tour/status.  They still would have plenty of time before and after to blaze their own trail where they wish.  Meanwhile I think Radiohead would bring a demographic that is of yet mostly untouched by the Jacket's magic.

I really hope that the Jacket kick the US's asses in their own right.  Although radiohead would be a great band for them to open for if they were going to do that again.

And then there's the whole Bonaroo 06 thing.  That's probably not a huge deal but it may be a little awkward (especially for our boy Jim)

two years ago Jim went to see radiohead's set at bonarro.  as he was leaving he was talking to some friends and mentioned that he thought the set was kind of "sleepy".  someone from rollingstone.com overheard him and it was on the website the next day.  jim ended up writing an email to rollingstone.com explaining that he's a huge fan of the band and that they've rocked his ass off all the other times he saw him but this time they seemed a bit uninspired.

I am being selfish, but I don't think the jacket needs any new fans.  They are just the right size.

if radiohead asks you to open up for them, and you're able, you'd be a complete moron to say no.

not really. They're a band achieving popularity in their own right. It might be odd if they said no, but they wouldn't be morons.

if radiohead asked me to open up for them and i said no, then yes, i would be a moron. but so would they because they'd quickly realize that the only thing i can do on stage is a little soft shoe.

that would be hot.
I'm digging, digging deep in myself, but who needs a shovel when you have a little boy like mine.

i've been thinking about that recently...

do you think radiohead is even aware of this incident?  i doubt any of them read Rolling Stone or its internet site for that matter.

i think Jim also responded by e-mail to an irate radiohead fan and that was posted somewhere...or did i just dream that?
If you're lucky, MMJ will fill the void you didn't even know you ever had. If you're luckier, you'll get to see them live.

you're right but i was a little hazy on the exact details too.  I think he responded here and on the radiohead forum, but it could've been just one or the other.

Radiohead may not know about the incident now, but if mmj is going to open for them you gotta think someone's going to mention it to thom yorke.  you know that guy on the radiohead forum remembers it! (unless that irate fan was on this forum???)

It's unfortunate for Jim that he can't talk about a show with a friend without thinking about how the guy next to him may be a "reporter" hanging on his every word.

I'm still a complete moron if I say yes...

DaFunkyPrecedent

i hope radiohead doesn't have an opener...they just play 3 hours and leave.
God damn those shaky knees.
