wake up you lazy MMJ fans in Texas and give us a review of the show and new songs!!

;)
If you're lucky, MMJ will fill the void you didn't even know you ever had. If you're luckier, you'll get to see them live.

I already put this in another thread but

"the artist formerly known as jim james was in full force tonite in is 'butt-less' purple sequined pants. unbelievable.

wilco friday
centro-matic/SSG saturday
mmj monday

the jacket would have blown any of them off of the stage. i love wilco and think that they are an amazing live band but i think i've got to give it to mmj, at least in this round.

the new songs sounded great. definitely some falsetto action.

cheers,

Good morning everyone,

Been a long time reader of the forum and just wanted to post a brief review of last nights show.

After getting off of work at 5:00PM in stormy San Antonio my buddy (1st Jacket show for him) made the roadie to Houston.  Arrived around 8:30PM, with just enough time to grab a spot on the right side of the stage (about 10 ft. from Jim "Super Funk" James).  Heard Smokey Robinson play over the PA and then lights came down.  I was really expecting a known opener, but "urges" filled the air.

In general, the new songs were fantastic.  The album is going to be so diverse and cater to all music fans.  Really fantastic stuff.  Jim and the band really seemed into the new songs.  I loved how Jim really performed on the soulful/funk numbers.  Dancing and conjuring up the spirit of the 70's soul singer. The falsetto is going to be at an all time high.  Can't wait for the new album, as should all Jacket fans.

I've known a few have talked about it, and again, the lighting was so fantastic.  Really adds to the performance/music.  Great stuff.  And of course, the band sounded super sonic.  Everyone was into the groove.  Patrick you are the best drummer to watch live!!

Only gripe, I wish they'll play some other material besides Z.  Think we heard 7 songs.  But, it was a warm-up show and I'm sure the boys will have more in store for us when the official "Evil Urges" tour begins.

Overall excellent show, worth the trip, and well worth the sleepless night (got back around 2:30am, and yes I was at the office at 8am!!!).  Its going to be a great year for MMJ and the fans!!!

I think I need a new diaper, because I just crapped myself! That was so nice, such a sweet breakfast treat. Thanks Eggs for giving us the MMJ bacon.

Thank f'n christ for youtube as I couldn't get the videos to play from the link provided (f'n work internet police). I cannot wait to get the FULL sound as the ones on youtube are a little tinny.

Just got back to dallas and was it great to see the boys back. This show was fucking great, their light show I thought has gotten better, if thats possible. I think they tweaked some of their old song just a little bit in certain spots, I'm not sure since this was my fourth time to see them. I was surprised at how many new songs they played, there were a couple of good ones but I have to admit none of them stuck out as bad ass. I will have to give them another chance especially Highly Suspicious that song threw a little bit. Overall it was another great show

i noticed some sam cooke playing in the pre-show mix and thought, "this is gonna be great!"  teh mix was packed with gorgeous soul and r&b tunes.

yo la tengo played a fab short set!  that they played that long killer number at the end of the show was a great suprise.  georgia and james build these amazing grooves that just build and continue...there is something about getting wrapped in a rhythm that is unrelenting...having a tough time describing it, but it is fantastic!  (califone is great at this kind of thing, too..

they played songs from all over the spectrum last night!  personal highlight: mr. tough.  falsetto duet!  LOVE IT!

before mmj came out there was a rich synth music intro played over a dark stage.
-evil urges--carl 12 string, jim flying v!--it's an interesting thing when a band starts a show by debuting a song.  there's the first few seconds on understanding what's going on, then finding the rhythm or tone of the song.
-otr--totally got the show cookin!

**i was gonna post this review in bits b/c but my laundry just finished drying at the hotel, so i'm gonna head to austin!  sorry to bail out.  again.   ;D**
