please forgive me, i realize that they just played austin twice in march, but most native austinites don't consider sxsw austin shows.

i was just wondering if there was a chance of them coming back here this fall.

if i sound like a spoiled brat, please disregard this thread.

me, too, but i understand their want to not be festival whores during the summer. they would have been the perfect addition to the lineup, though. still, i'm stoked about this year's lineup, especially considering last year's was fucking terrible.

I'm hoping they play The Backyard or 2 nighter at La Zona Rosa.  There last show at Stubbs was hard to hear & see for many people  :-[

backyard i could stand, but i fucking hate la zona rosa.

i've seen some amazing shows at stubb's, though. i love that place.

ACL is a pretty sucky venue unless you are the Flaming lips, or a relative unknown.  Too damn many people.  For me Stubbs is also too crowded... hard to squeeze in up close.

I would LOVE to see MMJ come to the back yard.  I really like Zona Rosa too (although they are probably too big for Zona Rosa now).  Nutty Brown cafe would be cool too.

Though, I think my preference would be that they come to the EU pre-release party that I hope to be hosting.   ;D

Damn.  The news just told me the back yard is moving.

Maybe you will get your wish, big hungry joe.  I used to enjoy Stubbs a lot more until they seemingly started to increase max capacity...

Gruene Hall anyone?   :)

Based on the last show at Stubbs,  MMJ could be ready for the Frank Erwin Center...

they're about to expand stubb's to make it bigger, so that may be why they're doing this.

I'm with big hungry joe as I tend not to consider SXSW and ACL Fest appearances "Austin shows".  Obviously they're in Austin, and it is a show, but with all the time contraints with ACL Fest and with the ticket prices going higher and the lineups getting worse each year for both, it's always kinda frustrating when a band you like does either of those in lieu of a full fledged individual show.

I'm really hoping that MMJ plays The Backyard, especially since it's the last season at the current location (such a bummer that they have to move, but I can understand since they're completely surrounded by a shitty strip mall now), plus it's a little bit bigger than Stubb's and MMJ should have no problem selling it out.  Stubb's would be just fine, but that's really the only other viable option for them in Austin.  Or perhaps they'll return to the Austin Music Hall, but I hope not.... counting on an outdoor show, even if it does end up being in the dead heat of summer.  La Zona Rosa is too small and just not a very good venue at all, and I'm gonna assume the Erwin Center and Nutty Brown Cafe suggestions were jokes.  And with Gruene Hall you'd have to worry about the local yokals having their brains melted, plus the fact that the old building would crumble under the pressure of just one guitar note from Run Thru.

Best case scenario would be another show at The Parish, but I don't think that any of us could handle another show like that and survive to speak of it.

So yeah, Backyard I hope, will settle for Stubbs.

the more i think about it, the more i can't think of a reason for them not doing a 12 night run at stubb's, with one whole show being misfits covers.
