Count me in!  You plan on having any other bands?  Possibly unsigned and looking for gigs? ;)

I agree with having them for 2 nights as well.  It would definitely make it worth it to make it out to the middle of the world.

maybe a Jim James solo picnic lunch show.  then for the other bands have some My Morning Jacket friendly folks.... ie: M. Ward, Andrew Bird, Dr. Dog, Wax Fang (Eddie Vedder.... announce this after it sells out to keep it to the MMJ diehards  ;) )

HONESTLY... how many people do you think will come???  I SERIOUSLY think 10,000 is do-able.  Again, I'm not asking this to try and make a ton more money on this thing.  I'm asking because the more people that show up, the more room we have to do other things like add more bands!!!

blainesanders

that being said... keeping it small is the key.  don't want a HUGE crowd to where it's miserable, just like-minded people who are there for the same reason.  To meet new people, spend time in an awesome atmospher, and have a good time at a big old camp out with a great band, i don't wanna do this thing unless the conditions are ideal... i know you can't control the rain, but if everyone is there, they can play whenever the weather allows.  I'm sure most people would watch them play any time of day anyways.  And I think that MMJ fans have the capacity to chip in and make this thing work out and run smoothly!!

Im in OK, this sounds perfect.... Very close to my home. Count me and twenty other friends in.
Turned on some music to start my day
I lost myself in a familiar song
I closed my eyes and I slipped away

It's astonishing to me how many people on the My Morning Jacket message board want to go to a festival centered around My Morning Jacket.

The river is moving. The blackbird must be flying.

I'm "Inny McInalot".

AKA- Def. In, and I'm from Philly, so this sounds like a hike.  :P

what about calling this festival "INTO THE WOODS" with MMJ and Friends???
maybe have a small petting Zoo and and HUGE blow up BEAR!!!

Angry Ewok

Two nights of MMJ, or even couple of afternoon solo shows from Jim and Carl, and I'm in. Petting Zoo? Sounds kid friendly and relevant (Llamas, lemurs, and bears, please!)

If you go through with this, I know a very adequate artist who can design a poster.

While this idea sounds great, and dreaming is fun. Its just not realistic to expect 10k people to come to this. Maybe you could get 2k to come if you are lucky. No way this would cover your costs of bands/venue/insurance.

You would have to make a huge investment (gamble) to get this going. Are you prepared financially for that?

This uncle of mine lives in Iowa and had a corn farm. One day he bulldozed his crops and built a ball field. People said he was crazy...until ghosts showed up and he had a catch with his dad.

We think 10K is the ABSOLUTE IN OUR WILDEST DREAMS number, and this is the amount of people we want to be prepared for... just in case.  I think 3 to 5K is VERY realistic.  And I honestly think that would cover it.  However, once word got out that MMJ is playing 2 nights, you don't have to leave, go back to your hotel, and you will be surrounded by one of the more beautiful areas of land in this country... people will come... oh yes, Ray... they will come.  Plus, MMJ will have ANOTHER year to build even MORE momentum (which we all know is constant with this band right now).  AND add in that if we do this on Memorial Day weekend 2009, it will be the first awesome event that college students have a chance to go to... SCHOOOOLZZZZ OUT 4 EVA!!!
anyways, there is still a TON more work to be done by our team, but if the finances work out, and our partners are in, we'll probably approach the band!  Again, we aren't trying to make a killing, and that's why this will work!!
