QuoteI've never been to the states before so dont know my way around.  I noticed some accommodation available in Brooklyn.  Would that be too far away?  If so, what is the nearest district to Maddison Square?

there is another thread on hotels that might be helpful somewhere on here---try newark if you're on a budget (20 min train ride dumps you off right at MSG) brookyn or queens is not bad, as long as you can get to a subway stop, you're good to go. you can stay anywhere in manhattan and be close (it's not that big) but when you search...it's near 34th/33rd -there aren't a lot of hotels so anywhere you can get or afford is probably okay. my recommendation is NEWARK. nice hotels, convenient--trains run at all hours
but come on...there's nothing sexy about poop. Nothing.  -bbill

Anybody else worried about getting a hotel this far in advance in case they add another show (warmup or otherwise) in NY around NYE?

You can always cancel your hotel. We booked at the Comfort Inn in Flushing for about 127/night. If something comes up where we find a better place to stay we can always cancel it without any charges.

Not really.  I think NYE will be good enough for me and most hotels have a cancellation policy.

i would always recommend the Washington Square Hotel. Great rooms for $275 a night. that is of course steep for most of us, but for New York City, that's cheap (sadly). You get a great free, fresh breakfast in the morning, there's internet, and it's art deco (important, i guess?). It's near the NYU campus, bordering West Village.

I've heard good things about The Milburn in Upper West Side. Their rooms are generally around $230 a night.

I was also recommended to use Park 79, another Upper West Side hotel whose rates are around $139! I would jump on that!

There is also a Comfort Inn Central Park West that has rates under $200, but I haven't checked them out either.

Hate to break you the news, but staying anywhere but Manhattan on NYE is a disaster....good luck getting transportation back to NJ at 2 am.  I've made that mistake once...live and learn.  Keep in mind that several million other Manhattan partyers will be looking for transportation, making it a huge cluster fvck.

I saw a NYE show at MSG another year and stayed directly across the street at the Penn Hotel....BEST MOVE EVER....nothing like coming out of MSG into the nuthouse, and walking directly across the street to your sanctuary.

Spend the extra $$ and get a hotel in Midtown manhattan.  You'll be glad ya did.  It is New Year's after...splurge!!  But don't try to cram more than 3 people into a Manhattan hotel room.

We found a new hotel to stay in and it's not very farm from MSG. It's called the Carlton Arms, it has a really cool story behind it. A friend of mine stayed there and he said it's a really sweet place. www.carltonarms.com

In my experience its always better to stay as close to the venue as humanly possible.  Especially on NYE in NYC...but that is just me...I want to be able to roll out of the venue to my hotel without any hassle to traveling anywhere.

The hotel I just posted about is 6-7 blocks from the venue :)

110/night. Check the reviews, I haven't read or heard one bad thing about this place. I am so excited about this trip.

That sounds really cool....I'm always skeptical of hotels in NYC that cheap but the reviews sound good.  I'm sure it will be fine for the trip.

I usually am to, but I spoke with a couple that stayed there and they loved it. They said the area is nice and safe. It looks like such a cool place.
