I'd want to see them once a week if they switched up the setlists.

I dunno, but I think bands that have made it enough to go on tour and support themselves playing their music probably laugh really hard at people who "hate them" or they couldn't care less...

sort of silly

(ie, you compare me to carrottop but the several thousand people at the show tonght love us. I mean, can you imagine trying to please everyone? You'd literally go insane. Oh well.)

Jim only needs the music to entertain us, not a carnival.

I'm glad someone else said it!  Couldn't agree more.  The one time I saw them I found them interesting, but found myself wishing that Ween was back up there kicking serious ass.  With the Lips, I feel  like you only need to see the circus once, then you've had enough.  Stage act>rock band.

Somebody forgot to pay attention to Kliph and Steven.

I love the Lips.  Huge fan of their music.  Plus Wayne is from my hometown so I feel extra pride.

But when I saw them (and I'm not saying EVERY show is like this) it was a slap in the face.  The only "theatrics" were little red laser-light-things given to everyone.  Not enough MUSIC (which is what I thought I was there for).

I really don't care what the band thinks.  I know there are tons of people who enjoy their show.  It's not going to change how disappointed I was in my personal experience.

I'm not a Lips hater either.  I like some of their music (abolutely love "Fight Test") and can see how people could be crazy for them.  I have only seen them on Austin City Limits and it just seemed a little over the top for my personal taste.  Is it because I don't do drugs?

I like the intense musical experience of an MMJ show and would hate to see them doing the theatrics on a nightly basis.  At the risk of contradiciting what I just said, I do like that MMJ doesn't take themselves too seriously and they are willing to do proms or wacky New Year's covers on occasion.

I am certainly not a Lips Hater either.  I just think when you need to include theatrics, dancers and whacky stage antics in your live performances....it says a bit about your confidence to fully let the music speak for itself and stand on it's own merits.  I too really love some of their albums, and do listen to them periodically.  Seeing them live just seemed so much more of a stage production than a rock show....it was a GREAT stage production though, just don't really need to see it again.

If I could, I'd see The Flaming Lips at least once a month for the rest of my life.
Me too  [smiley=2vrolijk_08.gif]
Actually, I am thinking once a week.  Sunday with Rev. Wayne  8-)
Yes. At least once a week.

I too, LOVE the Flaming Lips!  I've seen them live 30+ times and their show has never gotten old to me!  This is actually the 1st year in a long while that I won't be attending their NYE show.  2 years in a row in OKC . . . I'll pass . . . I'm glad I'll be in New York this holiday season!  Bring it on boys!  Bring it on!   :D
None of this is physical . . . at least not to me.

It's easily the best party I've ever been to. And I think that stands on its own. It's not about getting your mind blown by their musicianship, it's about having a ridiculous huge fun time. Everybody needs something different out of a live show, admittedly, but the only thing I've ever found wrong with a Lips show was a crowd a little too rowdy for Wayne's message at the show at the OKC zoo a couple years ago. But seriously, I love their live show because it's so damn ridiculous and over the top. It's perfect. The music is only secondary to the theatrics these days, and while I'd love to see a really raw Lips playing Clouds Taste Metallic in a shitty hole in the wall club somewhere, I'm more than ecstatic to get to go to one of their parties whenever they're near. I don't do drugs at all.

I've seen the lips three times and it was more of a let down each time.  I honestly don't think you can put them in the same universe as MMJ.  Thats just my opinion...
