I think that is the chorus to the song that opened the MSG show. Not Curtis Mayfield, the song that was playing over the PA while the band was up at the bar having drinks. Does anyone have any information about this song? What is it called, who sings it? I really thought that this song set the mood for a night of beautiful music, and a show that was 100% class.

Wasn't it What Are You Doing New Year's Eve? If so, it was written by Frank Loesser.  I know Ella Fitzgerald and others have recorded it, but I don't recall who was singing it on Wednesday.

When the bells all ring and the horns all blow
And the couples we know are fondly kissing.
Will I be with you or will I be among the missing?

Maybe it's much too early in the game
Ooh, but I thought I'd ask you just the same
What are you doing New Year's
New Year's eve?

Wonder whose arms will hold you good and tight
When it's exactly twelve o'clock that night
Welcoming in the New Year
New Year's eve

Maybe I'm crazy to suppose
I'd ever be the one you chose
Out of a thousand invitations
You received

Ooh, but in case I stand one little chance
Here comes the jackpot question in advance:
What are you doing New Year's
New Year's Eve?
God sure baked a lot of fruitcake, baby.

I think that's what it was and I think it was probably Ella Fitzgerald.  I have only a vague recollection of singing along thanks to some ungodly number of beers consumed pre-show.  :)
