Quoteyeah i was bummed when nicole came out because i was told it was going to be taylor swift instead

Taylor Swift was totally supposed to be there to do a duet of "Almost Paradise" but there were security issues at Times Square and she couldn't make it over.  I'm super bummed.

I give this thread a rating of 5 cable knit sweater dresses.
"[Adrien Brody] is a big hip-hop fan and plans on becoming a producer. He is being mentored by RZA."

QuoteAfter listening to the show again now at work, I am reminded at how truly awaesome Phone Went West turned out.

Phone Went West is the most awesomest song live.

Quotehey all -

nye was 5th show of fall for me and 11 th overall and something i was waiting for since june when i woke up at 6 am to get tickets. i really should have realized that the only place to experience this show was in the pit. had floor seats in section 8...and it really was a terrible place to experience the show due to so many clowns everywhere as has been duly noted by many. frustrating that i wasnt able to mentally present for a lot of this show as we were always looking for more room and to get away from nonsense.

the band was super tight and sound was amazing. loved all the covers (was slightly disapointed in celebration as it was repeated from 06) but thats ok.  it was weird in that the show seemed soooo short to me. I guess it was 3 hours long but red rocks, berkeley, portland all seemed sooo much longer. i was literally ready for 10 more songs when they were done. playing bring it on home to me made my night though, one of the greatest songs of all time, and it just has joy all over it.

its tough to pass up a chance to play MSG but i just never felt like it was as momentous an occaison as I wanted to...not hatin, the jacket moves me like few others...but unfortunately i think the vibe was ruined by having to fill up so many seats with people who had nothing else to do on NYE.

I feel the same way.. like to a T.

QuoteI think I was kind of shocked because (a) it seems completely out of character and (b) that's a song which, if you're performing on NYE, you should make it your business to know...or don't attempt it.  But for as many times as I've sung along to it, I don't really know the lyrics, either!

Give the guy a break...he just got done melting our faces for 3.5 hours.

I took a few days to think about this experience and just finished listening to the show again. I saw MMJ for the first time in Philly in September and immediately regretted not getting tickets as soon as possible for the NYE show. I ended up buying pit tickets on ebay (at a hefty increase in price) to truly embrace the awesomeness that is their live show. I loved the covers and hearing Cobra and PWW again proved why those two songs kill me so much when played live. My girlfriend and I were fairly close to the stage and the crowd up there was just dancing the whole time. I can't remember having as much fun at a show. I've posted some of my videos on YouTube just so I can share the experience with everyone. It was truly a night to remember. There was no place I would have rather been and I'm so glad that I got to usher in a new year with my favorite band and so many others at a great venue.

Hmm...mayhap you should give me a break since I'm entitled to my opinion?  :)

Mr. Jim James can't fuck up and laugh at it? and no your not entitled to have your own opinion (I put that in italics so you can see my sarcasm)

Mr. James can do whatever he pleases.  I merely said I was surprised...and not so much that he didn't know the lyrics, but that he opted to sing what he sang in their place.  You really don't need to be so hostile.

yeah i was wondering that--seems like it was spontaneous though--although to me, it would have been weird if he DID no the lyrics--lol--i wonder if they even planned to sing that or practiced.
but come on...there's nothing sexy about poop. Nothing.  -bbill

Sassbox...I'm not trying to be hostile (so sorry if I came across that way). I just think he was having fun and as thepennylaneNYC said: "seems like it was spontaneous." I guess I don't like anyone criticizing one of the best NYE of my life. Jim also messed up on the begining of Librarian, but that didn't bother me, but added to the live experience. When performers make a mistake it reminds that they are just human and not the gods I think they are.

All's well.  :) And it was absolutely the best NYE of my life, too, and a fantastic way for me to end my run of MMJ shows (I'm still incredulous at my good fortune of seeing them 11  times in '09 *runs around in circles*).  I just didn't care for his choice of expletives...would have preferred he sang blah blah blah instead, ya know?  In any event, it certainly hasn't diminished my love for him or the greatest band on earth.

Cheers!

I have tried to explain my night to several people- I think i have perfected it...

Person: "Hey Mike, how was the concert?"

Me: "..." then I shake my head, put my hands to either side and pretend my brain is exploding.  Then I say, "I can't even begin to explain- It could never do it justice."

So this is my first post after following MMJ for about 3 years and this forum for about 2.

Sassbox is right: "You are not too old to be in the pit!  I'm 45 and I was on the rail for Neil Young/Wilco...and many Jacket shows this year.  I couldn't do it for NYE as my fiance is just not as in to the band as I am, BUT YOU ARE NEVER TOO OLD!"

I've got you beat by 8 yrs and I was there in the pit on NYE for 5 hrs. with my wife (6' 1") - first photo on brooklynvegan.com photos of the show - that's half of my wife on the left and me to her left, your right.

We had an awesome time.  4th show this year - Radio City, DC, Philly and MSG.

The NYE show was transcendent - Jim and the band are certain to go down as legends if they stay on course (whatever that is!) and they keep me young.

The comments section below the article cracks me up. Only on JamBase can an article about an MMJ show turn into a flame war about The Dead and Phish
