Another NYE review from the Village Voice

A decent review from the village voice about the NYE gig:

And they goof on jam bands ... sure to invite a flame war like the jambase review. sweet.

The so-called "paper of record" ... the NYT couldn't be bothered to write a word about the show, but they did mention the Jonas Brothers. From what I read elsewhere, they're digging quarters out of the couch to pay the rent.

cut out the first two paragraphs and that review would be much better. i don't get why he needs to start an MMJ review with a rant about phish, the dead, and brooklyn hipsters.

funny, i wrote a review of Z for my college newspaper back when Z came out and the last thing i wrote was that someday, people will be comparing other bands to my morning jacket and not the other way around. i guess other people are catching on.

This review just shows the odds that the band has to overcome to get media attention. I personally find Village Voice to be very snobbish, and considering My Morning Jacket a jam band, no matter how good, still shows a degree of ignorance (also the mention of psychadelics). At the other end of the extreme, there's the money men who would suck up to every age demographic they can wrap their minds around to make an extra buck. It takes something truly amazing to bring both extremes together.

This writer is annoying me. I could write better than this. The arrogance is too thick to even get through it and in the same breath they act superior to lib arts majors (journalism is just a glorified lib arts degree) and then try to be all non-chalant about how cool drugs are.

Which brings me to my point - does MMJ take the Zappa-esque stance when it comes to these things? From every interview I've read they seem to sort of shrug it off as nothing they're really into or want to encourage, but hey, if it tickles your pickle...

But yeah, those 1st two paragraphs were hard to read. They had no flow. To criticize, they didn't grab me and make me want to read more. F-. See me after class

Also, what's with the highly suspicious implied-hate? When I heard it at SXSW I was all like "this song is either gonna get them hated or loved", but I decided on "loved". After I took my last final of my 1st year of law school, I just put that thing on full blast and cruised down the highway with the windows down. Synchronicity.
