QuoteGet Psyched: How your favorite bands put on their game face

My Morning Jacket has a mix CD of nearly two dozen songs that it uses to get into the mood. It's almost all classic soul and R&B, but there are a few curveballs: Cambodian pop music and gangsta rap.

Andrews Sisters - Money Is the Root of All Evil
Outkast - Playa's Ball
Warren G - Regulate
N.W.A. - Express Yourself
Aretha Franklin - Daydreaming
Martha and the Vandellas - Nowhere to Run
Sharon Jones - How Long Do I Have to Wait for You?
Sam Cooke - Another Saturday Night
Dion - The Wanderer
James Brown - Super Bad
James Brown - Try Me
Common - Faithful
Bell Biv DeVoe - Poison
Commodores - Night Shift
Patsy Cline - Back in My Baby's Arms
Percy Sledge - When A Man Loves a Woman
Prum Manh - Two Wives Are Twice the Problem
Bob Dylan - Wigwam
Hendrix - Crosstown Traffic
George Harrison - My Sweet Lord
Prince - I Feel for You
Sim Sisamouth - Don't Let My Girlfriend Tickle Me
Mary J. Blige - Be Without You
Vera Lynn - We'll Meet Again (outro music)

(Harp notes MMJ's intro song, Phil Collins' "Take Me Home," is conspicuously absent.)

Holy Muckle videos

If a venue has the capability, the band brings along a DVD of videos by their Louisville pals Holy Muckle. HM's fake commercials made for Pizza Hut's new Xtreme Triple Bypass Pizza ("It's all fuckin' cheese!") and Paxil (perhaps the most honest pharmaceutical commercial ever) will make the watereddown beer shoot from your nose. They also made clips for Fun Dip, King Cobra beer and Hardee's. Says James, "They are hilarious. Go to Youtube and watch 'em."

GET YOUR GAME FACE ON! This is a pretty sweet list of jams for those who are in it to win it.

And those videos are fucking hilarious. ;D

Thanks for sharing this, D!  [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

Dee.

My pleasure. I gotta watch those videos. So far, the Hardees one is hilarious.

"Express Yourself' is my favourite N.W.A. track.  So great.

kev

I remember hearing those songs playing before the band took the stage at the concert last month in Asheville at the Orange Peel .  I remember thinking, "That is a weird combination, but I like it!"
