Sad Day in Birmingham (the day the music died...)

Live 100.5, the station that is presenting the MMJ show in April is no longer on the air. This station was the best thing to happen to the Birmingham music scene since the radio. Those of you who have been around the band a while know of Scott Register. For those of you who don't know him, he has hosted Reg's Coffeehouse every Sunday morning for almost the past 15 years. Reg also happened to be the "Superfan" on Conan a couple years ago. JJ played at Reg's 10th Anniversary show at the Alabama Theatre a few years ago, and of course it was a wonderful night. Reg has worked so hard to expand the music scene in the city and fact that his radio station has been cancelled is sickening. The station started the same day I left for the Waterfront show in August of '08. Since then so many of our favorite bands have added Birmingham to their list of stops. I mean I am seeing MMJ, Dr. Dog, and Deertick all within 20 days in my hometown. That would have never happened without Reg and the station. It's really sad the boys are coming to a sold out show in a city that currently doesn't even have a radio station that plays their music. I really hope something happens fast, hopefully someone will at least pick Reg's Coffeehouse up. A lot of you are gonna look at this and not care and that's fine. This probably isn't the best place to post this but I figured more people would see it here. I guess the whole purpose of this post was just to vent. It's just a really sad day here, in my opinion.

That's sad news indeed.  What happened to the station -  just weren't able to make a go of it?

According to some poll, we needed another talk radio station in Birmingham. We have Finebaum, we have Limbaugh, we do not need any more talk radio. Those listeners aren't gonna switch to whatever Citadel is putting on there now.

Ugh.  I'm really sorry, scosby.  What a bummer.

That sucks.  Sad to see another decent radio station not be able to make a go of it.

damn, scosby.  sorry to hear that.  good radio is hard to find.  [smiley=embarassed.gif]  it's not often that radio lives up to its potential.

I didn't realize it was official!  So sad!  Sometimes this city (and state) makes my blood boil.  Is it so god awful that SOMETHING progressive happen around here?    :'(
