I list this as question to the moderator as he/she chimed in already re: Merriweather (thank you for the info, BTW)   This is to them, or the band if they are reading (lol), or anyone else with actual knowledge of the situation.

Why not move the start time to 7 pm, get MMJ on stage at 8 pm, and still do the full show?
I realize to the band perhaps this is just one more show – what's 30 mins when you have a show the next day and one the day before – but to those of us there – it's a big deal to commit our time and money to the band we love – it happens rarely!! (for most of us!!)

To quote a man I hold in very high regard:  "There's still time .... For you ... to change your mind ...."    Let's do it – seriously !   Thousands of fans will be happy.

Lastly, if there is a real logistical reason why it can't be done, that would be helpful to know too – easier to stomach than just "lack of foresight in planning".

This is my last ditch effort – then I'll let it drop – promise !!  It makes me sick to be pumping out less than 100% positive vibes.... but the start time seems so... unnecessary!

just to carry over the discussion from the mpp thread, i'll re-hash what i said there.

although a 8pm start would be phenomonal as it would allow for 3 hours of music, a 9pm start seems pretty unnecessary.  as a veteran concert goer it seems strange to open the doors a 6:30 and not have the opener on for an hour and a half, and not have the band on for 2 and a half hours.  thats longer than the set will be!

hopefully someone can provide insight into why they can't hit the stage between 8pm and 8:30pm.

From what I understand, these are the rules of MPP. I'm sure the guys will give it all they've got in the two hours they have.

Sorry - I thought  I was helping by answering!

I do believe they moved the doors as early as they could.

Thanks for the quick reply - it is appreciated.   I am sure the 11 pm is the rule of MPP.

About the start time, I have no knowledge of that.   I am not a concert promoter, manager, venue operator, etc....  I do know Phish set doors time for 5:30 pm at MPP next month and announced on their website that concert will start at 7 pm so they can do two full sets.   But, no idea how these things work.   If you say MJJ moved the doors as early as they could, that's good to know!

I tried, right?  Change only comes through continuous struggle, or something like that?

That the guys will give it all they have - I have NO DOUBT about that.

2 hours of MMJ is better than no MMJ at all.

Agreed.   I have put this behind me.   Can't wait.   Where's JohnnyYac when you need him to set up a timer countdown?

kydiddle

I try to remain positive, but it is hard when MMJ fans would willingly rock out to a 10 hour show.  ;)

you know what would be nice, if they didn't do an encore and played straight through.

i've been to two shows where that happened.  the first was REM last year at jones beach, there was a horrific t-storm and we had to clear the venue b/c it was hit by lightning.  the show went off an hour late (started at 10:15) so they skipped the encore to get more music in.

second time was a mike doughty show, but he does that fairly regularly.  before his last song he told the audience he was going to play a few extra chords and say "good night, thanks for coming out" and everyone was to cheer really loudly.  the band would then turn around and people would keep cheering, then they'd turn back around and he'd thank everyone again for coming out and that they could probably play a few more songs.

anyway, if the band knows we are bummed about this and want to show some sympathy towards us, this would be a cool gesture of gratitude.

Yeah, but most bands are only off stage for 2 minutes tops before coming back out for an encore, so I doubt that changes anything. Its not like theyre taking a set break

i think its the difference of one not long song, but yeah i agree its not much.  it would be more the gesture.

While I agree it's mostly the gesture, I'd take one more song!

Or how about figure out a way to get PHJB off stage and MMJ on stage without a long break?   Start the concert at 8 and keep the music flowin' until 11 straight.

Hopefully someone from band management reads this Forum and understands our concerns.
Wakin up feelin good and limber!

They only played 2 hours last night, so I'm not expecting much in the way of a Merriweather Revolution, but i'll be damned if we don't try!  8-)

Would be nice, but I doubt it.  Let's just hope that they decide to do the best setlist of the tour because of all the die-hard forum members in the audience.  ;D ;D ;D

from the looks of the recent shows, they are gearing up to pull out all the stops.  praying for a steam engine and his masters voice, two gems i have yet to catch live.
