Very chill show for the most part.
The energy from the crowd was better than expected being such a small venue.
Jim was definetly feeling it, he talked about going up in the sunsphere earlier in the day and shared his opinions on mountain top removal.
Out of the five or so MMJ tracks played tonight his solo performance of Look at you was the best in my opinion. Yim played Wonderful and Look at you solo, and Gideon, Golden, and Smokin from Shootin with the rest of Appalachain voices
The setlist was pretty much the exact same from last nights show as far as i can tell.
Overall it was definetly a fucking quality show

Man I'd love to hear that Gideon with the other guys.  Thanks for the report!
I'm digging, digging deep in myself, but who needs a shovel when you have a little boy like mine.

Well first the setlist I took down:

Something, Somewhere, Sometime
Needn't Say a Thing

My Wealth Comes to Me
That'll Be the Plan
Electrified*
??? (Lyric: Pretty fair miss, won't you be my bride?)

Book passage read by Jason Howard

Flyrock Blues
Where to Begin
He Can Be Found (The Isaacs?)
It Won't Be Long
??? (Lyric:  Walking through revolving doors in my mind)

Book passage read by Silas House

Only a Song
Smokin' From Shootin'
The Old Measure
Sylvie (Leadbelly)
Wonderful (The Way I Feel)
Look At You
Dear Companion
Bury Me with My Car

Encore:
Built for This
Every Color and Kind
Gideon
Save the Last Dance For Me (The Drifters)

Well I thought I would leave a little review of the show at this point but I'm demolished and I think I will have to take on that task tomorrow.  If anyone could help me w/ those holes though, I've already been asked to put a mix of the show on disk.  Thanks!

*Like BH before me, I'm having a hard time finding this "Electrified" song out there.  I jotted down the lyric "The trees are electrified / the streets are electrified / your ears are electrified" from the beginning of the song but that's not helping out my web search.  I could see it being a new song maybe for Ben, I believe he was the one who sung it.

Well f*ck I had to work at 7 today so here I am (and playin it safe since I'm on a work computer).  Last night's show was amazing, I know it will be in the forefront of my mind for at least a week.  It was indeed a wonderful atmosphere, the quartet on stage (I didn't catch the drummer's name, which I would like to know - I believe someone said he had a CD at the merch table) seemed to be having a great time with lots of smiles and laughs throughout the night.  Jim placed one of those clips on his guitar (sorry a bit illiterate musically here) and the the group started full force into a song for about 15 seconds - only to be brought to a dead stop with Jim stating "F*ck, wrong clip... " followed by 3 or 4 more F*ucks in his next sentance - just giddy fun.

I took my fiancee, aunt, and 10 year old sister.  My fiancee was introduced to MMJ just a bit after me when they played SNL - she stated the show was the best of her life.  My aunt was entirely unfamiliar before the show, but was completely enthralled - she said they were so good, she just could not believe that they were not a full-time band together.  I bought her the Dear Companion CD, and she hung around to pick up more stuff, I think she bought Ben's also.  My littlest sister started right out toe-tapping, she had a little more difficult time near the end as things slowed down, but that's about what I expected for a 10 yr old.  I was pleasantly surprised when I offered to buy her anything on the merch table, including a t-shirt, and she chose a fairly large book from which a passage had been read - a little reader like her brother (I'm needing to get a bit back into that actually)!

But I could go on and on... as mentioned above, Jim mentioned finally being able to go up into the Sunsphere, and the presence of a bar up there (I may toss out a quote later, his quip about their f*cked up idea of architecture was killer).  I knew what he was talking about as I lived in Knoxville about 10 years before I finally made it up there for a wedding, which was a pretty awesome idea.  Anyway, he mentioned maybe making it up to the bar there to hang out if they were open after the show, so my fiancee and I walked the 5 or 6 blocks over there only to find that it apparently was not.  We walked back and hung out a bit at the Mirage, a bar/Egyptian restaurant/hookah bar right across the street from the Bijou, where we partook of some strawberry and banana tobaccoes (sp?) and got to check out some belly dancing!  *takes Borat accent*  Very Niiice!! *drops accent*  I stayed as long as I could hoping the guys might pop in there, but, no dice.

Anyway, one last thing that may interest some here, if anyone has made it this far <congrats!>, I recorded some of the songs at the show using voice memo on my iPhone, and for the first time, some of them came out pretty great!  Songs including Where to Begin, Look at You, Smokin', Try, Dear Companion...  I only know how to listen to these songs on my computer and phone, if someone knows some easy steps to let me share these with others, lemme know!

^^^^  Well, obviously, runnin on about 4 hours of sleep I still seem to be riding the wave of scotch / vodka / red bull / hookah tabacco / crown / & ecstascy (the emotion, not the other) that was last night.  Anyone who is on the fence about tryin to make one of these shows, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND doing everything in your power to make it - I wish I could go to all of the rest.  I thought this would be it for me this year since MMJ doesn't have Knoxville planned out for their tour yet, but now I've gotten the girl to agree to a road trip for it, so maybe I'll see some of y'all sooner rather then later!

Now lemme go take some deep breaths.

Nice set list...I didn't even think "Where To Begin" might be played...I would love to hear it at the Brooklyn show.

So did JJ only play 5 songs? or did he sit in on some others?

Jim Turner

No, Jim played in almost all of the songs.  The show started with all 3 (well 4 w/ drummer), and they played a few songs.  Then everyone left the stage except Ben (I think he did solo first) and he played in the background while a KY author read a passage of a book.  After the reading, Ben did 1 or 2 solo then was joined by everyone else.  They played a few, then Daniel went solo in the same manner next (I think).  Then everyone together, then Jim did Wonderful and Look at You solo, before everyone came together at the end again.  But other than the few solo songs, everyone played together.

Cool, it's sounds like it was a great show. I am looking forward to hearing them this Friday in Brooklyn. I have never seen JJ acoustic, or the other guys...I am sure my face will melt.
