It's music Jim, but not as we know it

Got this from allmusic

On the surface, it seems Leonard Nimoy succeeds at whatever task he tackles. He has acted in films, television, and theater, and most likely will be linked forever to his memorable portrayal of Star Trek's Mr. Spock. He is an author of poetry and other works, as well as a director and a producer. He even recorded almost a dozen albums, and there, unfortunately, is where Nimoy finally faltered. One recording, Mr. Spock's Music From Outer Space, is particularly campy. Featured numbers include "Highly Illogical," "Spock Thoughts," and Amphibious Assault," as well as a cover of "Where Is Love?" from the musical Oliver.  ;D

This stuff is hilarious, especially Spock Thoughts!

And William Shatner is even worse; this is top class comedy.
What were they thinking on the enterprise?

Another from allmusic...

While listening to the album, The Transformed Man, it's unclear if Shatner is merely having a good time and goofing around, or if he's embarrassingly dead serious, and creating an overly indulgent work. Most of the album turns out to be a bit too tedious for the average but a pair of tracks have become classics — "Theme From Cyrano/Mr. Tambourine Man" and "Spleen/Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds."

Unbelievable, Mr Tambourine Man is awfull, but oh so funny!

This should have been off-topic, it's way off topic!

I've heard William Shatner's stuff.  I actually kind of like it.  SOME of it.  (Maybe only when I'm, ..., you know.)

Have NOT heard Leonard Nimoy.  heh.

Chills

They are both funny as hell, but i understand why you've not heard Leonard Nimoy yet, it's not exactly radio-friendly!

Heh, but Bill Shatner is?  hee.

It was very cool here a few years ago to proudly state that you had William Shatner's spoken word records in your collection.

He DID go to our National Theatre School.  (Shockingly.  I find him interesting to watch, but mostly because of the hubris.)

Chills

Is that true, it was 'Cool' to have his records in your collection? I'm puzzled...  This thing becomes weirder and weirder to me, Highly Illogical indeed!

EC

Oh yeah.  I think he'd just come out with a new one.  It was around the time of Johnny Cash's first American Recordings, I remember that.  I was working in a bookstore, and one of the guys was talking about how cool Johnny Cash was, and another guy started talking about these parties he was going to where people would sit around and listen to Shatner records.

huh?

And then it became this thing.  Not to long lived, but for a while, you couldn't find any Bill Shatner in any of the record stores.  (I know because sadly, I fell into that coolness trap.  I never got one, though.  Thank god.)

My lord that was a long time ago.  I  had short, black, straight hair at the time.  (It was for a play.)  Weird.

EC

Just thought of something.  Don't both of them have some weird ear condition that they got from some explosion that happened on set too close to their ears?  (I can't believe I know this.  Why in the hell do I know this?  I swear I'm not a Star Trek fan, not that there's anything wrong with that.  I did have a boyfriend who was, though...)

Perhaps their ears deceive them into thinking that what they're doing sounds like beautiful music?

heh.

I mean, good for them anyhow.  You boys go and do whatever it is that makes you feel good.

''and another guy started talking about these parties he was going to where people would sit around and listen to Shatner records.''    :o

Allright, that's it, I did not know what I got in to posting this stuff... this isn't funny anymore :P

But there is a lesson: Don't fall into the coolness trap!  8)

EC

Yes.  William Shatner listening parties and neon leg warmers.  Baaaaaaaaaaad.

The Boar

To add an extra bit of weirdness to this conversation, I once tried to download a Radiohead song, and it turned out it was Leonard Nimoy singing "The Ballad of Bilbo Baggins" from the '60s animated version of "The Hobbit". It had Nimoy, a female chorus, and this weird little organ guiding them through "Bilbo, Bilbo, Bilbo Baggins...the greatest little hobbit of them all." Very surreal. I still have it on my computer.

Dude, I speak from experience. ÊI owned a pair. ÊOrange. ÊThey went with my off the shoulder bright green top that said "Boy Toy", of which I had a matching pair of earrings. ÊAND, I had orange and green bracelets that I used to wind together like Richy Schroeder did in Silver Spoons.

Perhaps that was too much information. ÊPlease nobody use this against me. Ê;)

And Boar, that is totally weird. ÊSpeaking of downloading music falsely, I downloaded a bunch of ELO a while back, and got "Blinded by the Light". ÊSo, I automatically assumed it was correct. ÊMy brother and I were in the car the other day, and it came on. ÊAnd I said "I love ELO", and he said "Yeah, they're great, but this is Manfred Mann." ÊI said "No it isn't." ÊAnd an argument ensued, and we each were POSITIVE that we were right. ÊAnd I bet on it. ÊAnd, of course, I lost. Ê(he didn't make me pay, though) Ê

Yet another reason why downloading music is bad. Ê

OH, and here's something weird, I was listening to my own music on windows media player the other day, and the album information came up as some American MALE Singer singing a song from his "I Love America" album, or something like that. ÊWhuuuuuut?!
