Yes I think so.I'm getting into a lot more.It took a few spins to get use to.But I'm enjoying the latin rhythms and some of the hip hop beats and cool guitar sounds.Great production by the Dust Brothers. It covers a few genres of music. It might not be for everybody but I enjoy it.

EC

DeVotchKa - How it Ends

For those who remember me saying, this was the middle band at the M Ward show on Sunday here in Toronto.  This record is unbelievably incredible.  It is utterly beautiful.  My roommate and I were repotting some flowers outside, and played this record, and we kept stopping, rather mesmerized, and talking about how wonderful it is.

Klezmer, Spanish Flamenco, 40s/50s vocals, lovely lyrics ... oh, and rock.  There is rock.

Honestly, it's one of the most ambitious things I've heard, and it is so well done.  They have a very ecclectic variety of influences, but those influences are deep and clearly educated.

It's really incredible.  Okay, I'll stop now.  :)

I've got a new artist on my list! Regina Spektor - she's got that perfect 30's vibrato on her voice.... Gotta love it!

Anyone who's seen JBT, how do the albums compare to their live sound? I don't have any of their albums yet, but I will surely be adding to my collection.

QuotePenguin Cafe Orchestra.
Oh that's so wicked!  And WEIRD!!  I was just talking about how much I love them yesterday when somebody put on a really, really old mixed cd that I made with "Milk" on it.  I love Penguin Cafe Orchestra!  Yay!

"Pieces of the Sky" by Emmylou Harris.  An old favourite, but one I haven't listened to in a while.  It's fun to listen to the production of it.  They sure did make some nice music in the 70s.

Holy shite!  That's the best Emmylou Harris album EVER!  I've got that on vinyl at the house, and every once in a while, I'll put it on and waltz around the house with my daughter.
it's a voice. and it's a choice

HA!  How lovely!  (Do you get teary when Boulder to Birmingham comes on?  I just keep thinking about how hard it must have been for her at that time.  She's suddenly really popular and thrust into that Nashville world, and Gram's dead, and it must've been really weird.  Especially singing Sleepless Nights, too.  Man.)

Plus, Bottle Let Me Down is one of the best songs. Ever.

Did Emmylou ever sing it with Merle?  Anybody know?

Drunkre

Emmylou Harris is just effin' amazing.  Blue Kentucky Girl is a great album (and has Even Cowgirls Get The Blues on it as a plus).  She's quite possibly my favorite female singer (I know that's sexist) ever.  Right up there with Rickie Lee Jones; Joni Mitchell; Melanie; and Grace Slick (circa "We Built This City (On Rock and Roll)"...I keed.

What am I listening to right now?  The Postal Service.
