"Jim James is to My Morning Jacket what Melvin Mora is to the Baltimore Orioles."

During #2 of the Top 10 Plays of the Day

I can't decide if this is a bigger slap in the face to Carl Broemel or Nick Markakis. :-/      ;)

I think they probably just have pop references in a hat and ad lib without knowing what it is they're really talking about. Makes more of a connection with a younger audience when you drop names like that.

...or do you think MMJ payed ESPN to say something like that?

Which espn guy said it? I seem to remember a similar mmj reference on sportscenter happening a year or so ago...

Sounds like John Buccigross...he's always making analogies like that.

Ahh yeah, it probably was Bucci. He seems to know a fair amount about today's music scene judging by the comments he makes in his mailbag articles.

man, I had ESPN on and and SC just ended, that was the 2nd Top Play, and I heard no reference!

were you just watching the one that ended at 2 PM EST too slimkim?

It was def John Anderson who was on this SC, so maybe thats why. I figured it was either him, Bucci (whos the man bc he reps hockey), Scott Van Pelt, or Neil Everett

Man im pissed I didnt just catch it!

Had to be Buccigras.  He's done this before.  See here:

Nothing wrong with a dude having good taste in music and dropping it in every once in a while.

I know he's done MMJ, The Hold Steady, QOTSA, and others.

Yeah, I got no problem with it...were all here talking about how their gonna blow up when this album drops, right?

I mean, shit, Id def rather have Bucci or one of the boys rep Jim and MMJ then have them on American Idol and American Eagle! In the words of Clay Davis, "SHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIT"

CBS used What a Wonderful Man for a golf highlights montage last year.  It seemed odd, but made me feel less bad about watching golf on tv.

Yeah, about 2-3 years ago they used a Jim James and My Morning Jacket reference in a highlight of a college basketball game.

I might have posted this on here, if not, maybe somebody else did, but they actually played ANYTIME in its entirity for a highlight reel of the best moments of the year in golf at the last tour of the year.  It took me by surprise when I was watching the program, but I was pretty happy about it.  The announcers started setting up the highlight reel by talking about the golf year in review and then all of the sudden I hear the beginning of Anytime and shit myself.
