We're a week away now. How high do you think it's gonna go?
I say #8.
Maybe in the Top 50...and if so...just barely.
Z has only sold around 200,000 copies and ISM is less than that.
To break the Top 50 they will have to sell I'd say at least 125,000 copies of the album the first week. Not sure they are that popular just yet.
Hey, it's already number 23 on amazon.

#6 with 65k units sold
Quote#6 with 65k units sold
i guess i'm wrong!
what charts are you talking about? Billboard?
#1 with a bullet.
If this can happen:
Gavin DeGraw's self-titled J Records sophomore release debuts at No 7 with 66,112 units sold this week.
Then MMJ can beat Gavin. I was one off but that was my prediction. If I had it my way MMJ would make music just for me. Unfortunately I'm not in a position to support the band to make them perform exclusively for me. So we need to be happy with all their success.
Cock it. Pull it.
I don't think it matters too much...they're already at number one on my chart. Anyways, I'm more excited for the live versions of the new material.
I think Evil Urges is prone to sit at the top of all of the CIMS Charts for a good while. Top debut, top sales, top vinyl sales. I just hope the leak hasn't damaged the sales the way many folks believe Z was.

well according to every noob that came on here just to get a leaked copy of the album they have "assured" us they will be buying a copy also. >:(
Id be shocked, shocked jerry, shocked if it didnt end up in the Top 12
What are the other bigtime realeases for next week? That could factor in
Depends on how many albums they ship and how big of a push they get from their record company and subsequent deals with music stores. If everything is done right, I won't be shocked with a Top 15 on Billboard.
I call: #5. The band that was my little secret six years ago in high school is no more :)

I have word from a good source that the pace at which people are buying their previous releases has picked up x's 3.
#8 on Amazon ;D
My prediction for the album, like all music from this band, is that it will be bigger than my biggest of problems, louder than any worry, and stronger than any sadness.
:)
Chart-wise, I have no idea. Really really high, I hope.
Not that theres probably many ppl who are MMJ fans and will get any of these albums, but Lil Wayne, Alanis Morissette, and NERD are all being released on Tuesday as well.
I dont think itll hurt MMJ's sales, but that may make the chart # lower. Im pretty sure all 3 of those will outsell MMJ, and theres a couple other albums that should do pretty good as well
Itll almost certainly be Top 3 on Amazon by tuesday, if not #1. I always like to see where some bands end up on Amazon, but there are certain types of music that always to good on amazon because of the types of fans who frequent it and buy music off it. I think MMJ is one of those bands
#6 on Amazon today.... :)
1 sounds good to me, but at least no less than the top 10...
I'm Amazed is the number one song on WXRT in Chicago! Nice!! :D
#4 on Amazon. :)
I think we have to wait until a week from Thursday to get the Billboard Chart. I will be on a plane.
QuoteI will be on a plane.
Salt rub anyone?
;D
Me too!!

LOL! I will def raise a glass of red to you, BH, on my way to NYC! I hope we meet up at the brewery! I'm trying to fashion a recognizable Tshirt so as not to miss the gang, but I'm not very inspired for some reason. I'm considering an image of Tracy with Bunny ears, but that just might make people think I'm gay or something?!?! [smiley=evil.gif]
Well, I got my copy today from the only local record store. I had to pay 16$ instead of 10$ from best buy, but I got it at 1:30 PM and it was their 8th and last copy. And I live in Iowa. Surprised me
Then I checked out best buy's stock and since none were in that first 'new release' CD rack they have as soon as you walk in, I put about 15 Evil Urges in front of a bunch of Radiohead and Fergie albums. I think the big dude at the door saw me, but maybe they stayed their...Viva la Jaqueta!!
Ohh...and I now have a bet with my girlfriend - If MMJ cracks the Top 10, I get road head; they dont, I owe a half hour foot massage..I dont lose too much either way, but lets go Top 10!!
I've been thinking about this as well. Recently, many indie bands have had chart success (Wilco, Modest Mouse, The Shins, Death Cab, Flaming Lips, etc.) and MMJ has been picking up a lot of steam. Therefore, I'm gonna say #8, which is where Wilco's A Ghost is Born debuted and I think both bands are pretty comparable in terms of popularity.

"Meanwhile, MMJ is expected to post its best Billboard 200 chart position and first-week sales total next week with "Evil Urges" (ATO), its fifth studio album."
Congrats on breaking the top 10!!!!!

This hasn't been posted on billboard.com yet or else I would have linked there. But awesome job for the Band and management/promotional team!

"Journey's Wal-mart exclusive album "Revelation" is down 5-6 on a 15% sales slide to 89,000."
Are you f'ing kidding me? So about twice as many people bought Journey instead of MMJ. It's not even a debut week for that album. What a sad country we live in when it comes to art appreciation. >:(
So I read that it charted at #9 with 49,000 units shipped. Pretty good. Just to put into perspective here are a few other erstwhile indie bands and/or bands from a similar genre and their debut week sales (oh, and "Z" debuted at #67 with 18,329 units sold) (also, I've rounded some of these sales to the nearest thousand :)
Flaming Lips "At War With the Mystics" #11- 48,439
Arcade Fire "Neon Bible" #2- 92,000
Modest Mouse "We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank" #1- 129,000
Wilco "Sky Blue Sky" #4- 87,000
Death Cab for Cutie "Plans" #4- 90,000
Death Cab for Cutie "Narrow Stairs" #1- 144,000
Bright Eyes "Cassadaga" #4- 58,000
Cheers. (sorry for being such a geek :D)
