C'mon--is anyone here really surprised this has happened?  I mean Kirk F'n Hammett jamming with them at the Roo?  MSG on NYE?  Next they'll be headlining football and baseball stadiums 8-)

I wonder what they would've sold if not for the 2 month leak.

People just don't buy cd's anymore, do they? I mean, #9 on the Billboard chart and that's only 49,000 copies??? That just doesn't sound right.....

I'm an old schooler that always needs to have the originals w/ artwork.  :D

not so sure abou that.  I know a lot of people who got the leak and still haven't bought the album.  It definitely matters.  People who are causal fans and already have the album won't go buy it.

#24 this week.  Don't know how many copies sold.

Just saw this too.  24 is certainly still a respectable spot.  Anyone know where to find out how many albums have been sold total?  Real curious.

I noticed in the article that:
#11 sold 42,000
#30 sold 17,000

so at #24 MMJ must have sold about 20-25K?

500K is gold right?  Should be Gold by Xmas.

Yep 500K is Gold.  Hope you're right BH, but that'll be tough.  Only sold around 75K right now, so it will have to keep selling at an average of 15K a week to reach Gold before the Xmas curtain closes.  Even with all the hype, it looks like they only sold 20-25K in week 2.  A few more weeks in the 20s will help big time, but after that it's still hard to keep momentum selling 10-20 a week.

But as we know, all these shows are gonna remind everyone exactly how badass they are.

they ought to change the numbers since everyone is selling less in this, the age of the interweb.

Do they not count sales from itunes, zune, etc?!?? what about amazon? I understand how d/l has decreased sales, but lets be serious here. Does anyone think they lost more than a 1-2k in cd sales due to d/l and the leak? I could see 50 Cent losing a lot of sales due to these things, but the Jacket?

They say 10 years ago #9 wouldve been like over 150k in sales, but I think the biggest difference is the economy and nature of popular music as to why youre seeing MMJ at #9 selling 100k+ of less CD sales. 10 years ago, you had the boy bands and britney spears clones, bling bling era rap, and nu-metal all selling big time.

These days, you got MMJ debuting at #9, and in their recent respective debuts, Atmosphere at #5, Flight of the Conchords at #3, and others that youd expect to have no business being in the Top 10.

As I said also, I think dwindling economy factors in as well, and hmm, gas?

Evil Urges was #1 in CIM Top 200 Sales last week.
It's #2 under Coldplay for this week.

WOOHOO!

also:  i think pieces sold refers to how many copies were shipped, not how many copies were actually sold in stores.

that what it what when i worked in a record store back in the day.

(totally unrelated but awesome:  brian eno's baby's on fire is playing on the radio right now!!  holy cow!)

#37 this week.  From the article, #35 sold 14K, so it looks like 13-14K for our boys, and about 80K after three weeks.

I hate to say it, but a Gold record is a long, long shot at this point, unless a crossover single comes out.

Don't count it out. Z sold 200,000+ records, and that was considered pretty low because of all the computer issues. I'm Amazed is being played all the time on my local radio station, and sales will probably remain steady throughout the tour, and increase when the end of year best-of's come out.

Thank You Too also has single potential.

#65 this week.  Number 29 only sold 17K this week.  So just an educated guess would be around 8K this week for our boys.  Was just recrunching the numbers and I'm thinking the total should be something like this...

Week 1:  49K
Week 2:  21K
Week 3:  13K
Week 4:   8K

Total:  91K

Again, just a guesstimation.  Not a bad number in today's economy/industry, and well on its way to becoming their best selling album to date.  Keep in mind that CD's were selling at a much better rate just 5 years ago, when ISM was released.  And DARK made a good point; considering steady radio play and U.S. tour coming soon, plus another (or two more) potential singles, sales should remain steadier than many records in the 50-100 range right now.

Here's to breaking 100K!

Week 1: #9
Week 2: #24
Week 3: #37
Week 4: #65
Week 5: #73

Starting to hold steady a bit more eh?  If it can float around the 70's for awhile it may hit Gold yet!
