I need to make sure I don't put too many pounds on whilst I'm in Hawaii next week :-[
I have every intention of enjoying some Sam Adams & the local brew (Kona) but also plan on mixing it up a little with the occasional diet brew.
Anyone drink diet beer? If so, which is your favourite?
So many to chose from...
by diet beer I guess you mean lite beer. Rolling Rock makes a decent lite beer called Green Light. Coors Light is okay. Most of them taste like piss water though
If you're on vacation, have your fill of some good Hawaiian beer, you'll be more active anyway being on vacation and won't really pack on the pounds.
My choice of crap light beer would have to be bud light though, possibly Miller High Life light, it is the champange of beers ya know? :o
For the record, I'd rather skip dinner and drink regular beer rather than drink light beer (if it ever came to that), but I have tasted a couple that are not bad. Sam Adams makes a light beer that is a little bitter but not watered-down tasting. Also, Yuengling light is decent. I agree, though, that you'll be active and it won't matter. Just go swimming lots in the big O. Plus, it'll be hot, so you'll be sweating weight off. Have a blast!
bourbon...who needs beer? ;)
'Diet Beer' ha ha. :) I like Miller Light. No chemicals and pretty tasty 4 a lite beer.
Bourbon's a great choice too. CNN just reported that red wine helps you lose weight, and help unclog your arteries among other things. Great Success! :D
Have a blast in Hawaii Dragonboy!!!

Wow, would I be fat if this wasn't true! Damn, I'm going to feel good about myself next time I get Merloted.
Haha, yes I did mean Lite, sorry they call it diet beer here in Japan.
Thanks very much for all your suggestions :)

Grey Goose on the rocks.
Heroin In A Needle!
you actually loose weight!!!!!

I tried that once for a few weeks & like you said, I lost a few pounds but it had a negative effect on me too. I felt great after I took a hit but soon felt really shitty afterwards. Sounds crazy, I know! but it was almost like I was becoming
addicted?!!
So I gave that up & decided to kill myself slowly with alcohol instead ;)
...longest. post. ever...
::)
Sadly, Dragonboy there is not one decent light beer made in the States. You should be able to get Amstel in Hawaii...

I find all big brand US regular beers pretty light tasting. I can't drink US light beer when I'm in the States. It's way to light. I do like Rolling Rock (not a 'diet' beer), but they go down like water. The US beers that are brewed in Canada like Coors Light and Bud are stronger alcohol content-wise, so they are at least palatable.

i was just about to say the same thing, jaimoe. all us beer tastes like light beer to me. are canadians fatter? from what i can tell, no... i say this: there are 2 times when you don't worry about what you eat/consume - 1) december, 2) vacation.
have a great time, db!!
Thanks guys!
Jaimoe, EC, have you tried Sam Adams? I agree that most US beers don't compare to other quality world beers but Sam Adams Boston Lager is a great brew.

I've had Sam Adams a few times, but only pints in a bar in Chicago. I liked it.
Sammy is great but I still take Amstel over Sam's light anyday
Hey Dragonboy, screw trying to find good US light beer. What's wrong with the excellent Japanese beer like Sapporo (other than they probably don't make a light beer)? Incidently, Sapporo recently bought Canada's largest independant brewery Sleeman - makers of great beer.
I love Japanese beer but this is for my trip to Hawaii.
I'm gonna get my fix of Sam Adams & Kona: http://www.konabrewingco.com/ (their Pale Ale is great!)
& mix it up with a few 'lite' beers :)
4 days to go then I'm off!!!
Totally off topic, I read that Evangeline Lilly's (one of the stars of LOST?) house in Kailua burnt down yesterday. Kailua is where I'm staying.
Relevance, I hear you ask? None whatsoever!

Maybe you'll be able to find a good Canadian beer like Moosehead in Hawaii?
I shall look out for it & definitely give it a try if I find some :)

Mind you, I've never had the US imported Moosehead. I assume it's not as good as Moosehead brewed and sold in Canada - eg. I know Molson Canadian sucks in the US, but it's the #1 brand in Canada and it's pretty darn good as mass-marketed beers go.
We finally got Moosehead here!

A great beer and Moosehead makes a killer light beer simply called Moose Light.

Excellent, I'll keep my eyes peeled when I'm at the Liquor Board tomorrow.
What do you think of Alexander Keiths?

Keiths is one of my favourite beers, especially on tap. I think Brits and Yanks would love the stuff, along with some varieties of Sleemans.
i love keiths!! (i still pronounce it keets - do you jaimoe?)
when we were in highschool, one of our good friends passed away, and he was a big drinker of moosehead. we had a party in his honour, and we sold all of the beer stores out of moosehead. 8-) i think he would have been proud.
i didn't know sapporo bought sleeman's. man that's kind of weird. all of the nice littler breweries are getting bought up. mother. sleeman's beer is yummy, i hope it doesn't get all messed up.

I sometimes call Keith's "Keets" in honour of the wonderful accents of our Nova Scotian brothers and sisters.
John Sleeman sold the company to Sapporo, so it wasn't like some Godzilla came around and gobbled up a smaller company. I believe Sapporo - and the Japanese for that matter - are the best company Sleeman could have chosen. They will honour the Sleeman tradition of quality and hopefully not lay anyone off - that's the vibe I got when I heard about the takeover.
Can you guys in N. America get good English beer?
Fullers, Youngs, Theakstons & Badger beers are my favs:

Theakston's Old Peculiar is pretty special.

We do here in Commonwealth Canada. I don't know the brands you listed except for Badger, but I'll keep my eyes peeled. There are hundreds and hundreds of English/Irish/Scottish pubs in downtown Toronto. I normally drink Canadian micro-brews and even some major market Canadian beers like Canadian, Sleeman's Pale and Moosehead - and Coors Light (brewed by Molson).
Sleeman's Pale Ale were going down far too easy tonight.
Ended up trying Bud Lite & Sam Adams Lite, preferred the former.
Also tried Sam Adam's Winter Lager which was OK but I still prefer their Boston Lager.
Lots of Kona's Pale Ale, still my fav US beer.
