Title: College B-Ball '06-'07
Post by: primushead on Oct 30, 2006, 12:10 PM
Woo!!!  Season starts in two days!!

I can't wait for basketball this year.  Carolina is ranked #2 in the preseason poll...and I really have high hopes for them this year.

But, man...Florida is returning with all 5 starters?  It's gonna be crazy!

Who else is everyone pulling for?

I can't wait either. I'm a huge college hoops fan and Louisville is  my squad. We just had our annual Red-White scrimmage and our recruiting class looks unbelievable!! Our first game is this Wednesday and I'm stoked. Then UL vs WVU for the showdown of the Bluegrass state.

It's all about the Orangemen. Been a fan for 30 years. I'm originally from a Canadian city, Kingston, that's pretty close to the hole known as Syracuse. Most of our US TV affiliates  are from Syracuse, so Kingston gets a saturation of Big East and specifically Syracuse Orangemen games (football too). I like most of the Big East teams, even Connecticut. I can't stand the ACC, in particular the Tar Heels and Duke.

Ah, yes. The Big East is by far the most dominant in college basketball and I can't stand the ACC either. Especially those Dookies. Syracuse got us last year so I'm looking for redemption. Losing G-Mac was a huge loss.

I hope Gerry makes the NBA in the future. I'll be checking out his stats in the Euro League. He's my favourite college player since Syracuse's Stevie Thompson from the mid 80's. Leo Rautins is up there too. Let's Go Orange!

Ohio State could win championships in basketball and football.

i'm also a cards fan though, hopefully they'll have a better year this year.

UNC dominated Gardner-Webb ( :P)

I'm really looking forward to the Ohio State/UNC game on Nov. 29th though.  That'll be sweeeeeet.

some really great games last night, especially the Duke-Marquette game (and especially since the dukies went down). Kentucky-UCLA was pretty sloppy and Memphis St disappeared against Georgia Tech.

Lots more to come until the Maddness...

Good comment from Roy....

http://scores.espn.go.com/ncb/recap?gameId=263282633

NEW YORK (AP) -- North Carolina coach Roy Williams was blunt with his team after its latest victory.

"I told them to go home and for Christmas ask for some brains," Williams said after the second-ranked Tar Heels beat No. 22 Tennessee 101-87 on Friday night in the third-place game of the NIT Season Tip-Off. "One of the parents heard me say that and said, `Good. That doesn't cost very much."

OK, 40-38 Ohio St with 4 minutes left in the first half. This is incredible already!!!!
I have to say I am a bigger fan of college b-ball than football. And they will decide it all in March by playing a tournament.

MADDNESS!!

if I were a betting man, I'd take Carolina and the points (11). I have seen Kentucky a couple of times this year, and outside Morris, they got very little. Unless Carolina is down after the Buckeyes game, they should cover.

I absolutely LOVE college basketball. In fact, one of my few "claims to fame" is that I have watched every national championship game since Indiana beat Michigan in 1976 and I can name who played in each game since then, who won, and where I was (it takes a little time).

Bring on the madness...

I should have posted earlier, but I was too sad to write.

Man...what's up with Virginia Tech?  I'm stoked that they (and GT) beat duke, but I can't believe that they dominated UNC as much as they did.  Perhaps a future continder for the ACC championship...

when it comes to college athletics, i do think they should get something. maybe like 1,000 to 2,000 a month. its sad when the ncaa is making billions off these folks. i say pay players like chris webber and reggie bush.

heres the story about bush:

They DID look good last night, especially during the second half.

As for Roy Williams, I don't think I could be any happier with him coming back to his Alma Mater.  He seems like a truly sincere guy with lots of class, and of course a great coaching/recruiting strategy.  I really think he filled Dean Smith's shoes nicely.

Next game Saturday at Arizona...should be interesting.

I think Louisville should definitely be in after a few key wins.  I don't think Ok. State will make it.  And, even though I was hoping for the best, it looks like Duke should be in.

I can't remember a time when so many bubble teams have such horrible conference records (losing/.500 records in conference).

Maryland, Georgia Tech, Clemson, Florida St, West Virginia, Michigan St, Alabama,  Illinois, Oregon could all get the magic 20 wins and still have a .500 or less record in conference play.

I think the mid majors get rewarded again while the big conference teams don't get in (so much) with their losing conference records.

Hopefully the selection committee will learn a lesson from last year and let more midmajors in in lieu of mediocre major conference teams.  George Mason was one lost from not making the tourney last year and you saw what happened.

I would've been here, but I was at work.  Luckily I got off to see most of the game.  And what a game it was.  I'm just gonna go ahead and get the foul at the end of the game thing out of the way.

Was it intentional?  Probably not...but did you see how hard Hansbrough got smacked?  With 15 seconds left?  It seems fishy...

I won't give too much flak to Henderson though.  I don't really think he jumped up meaning to hit him, but in the end, it doesn't matter because Duke lost and Carolina has a #1 seed in the ACC tourney.

Duke #7 in tourney also!

Unforunately, my Gamecocks are last in the conference right now. Looks like we won't be going for an NIT championship 3-peat ::)

I know!  How the hell did they down Butler?  I think the homecourt advantage helped out.

Gregg I think the home court defiantly helped. But gotta remember WSU and Butler tied for the reg. season league title and split the regular season games. I'm lovin it tho here in Dayton WSU is the red-headed step child to UD and baring a miracle in the A10 tourny looks like UD will be staying home, so the spotlight here in Dayton will all be on WSU. On a side note UD has refused to play WSU for bout the past 6-7 years, looks that wont change anytime soon.

I used to do those bracket things, but I would always get torn between rooting for a team I didn't like (Duke, UCLA) or rooting for who I was really for (the underdog) at risk of blowing my bracket up.

I just can't do it anymore, it takes the fun out of the tournament.

Helluva day for hoops. Cal over UCLA, NC St. downs Duke, the U over Maryland. Great game between WVU and Louisville, seems like WVU just ran outta gas.

Was hoping you would be on here Gregg, congrats!  you too the dark.  But I think you guys got hosed on the region.  Texas as a #4 in the Sweet Sixteen, goddamn that's tough.  I'm looking forward to watching that game.  Durant vs. The Mask.  Good luck to your heels! :)

Thanks, but don't rely on anything just yet.  Carolina could easily give up a stupid loss, as could Texas.  But if they meet up, it will be one HELL of a game.
