Yep, grinding your own is best for flavor and aroma especially if you are using a french press or an expresso maker.

I finally kicked that bastard habit....please do not tempt me...tasty expresso...need to consume coffee....

It's actually been about 3 weeks now.

lovin the coffee thread.

i grind fresh before brewing.  tests 1000% better than pre-ground.

i am the biggest coffee snob ever!!  i can't help myself.  i have 5 different types of whole bean coffees in my freezer.  i have a french press, reg coffee, espresso machine, and a perk.

i work at a coffeehouse that has the best coffee.  today i was off work and had to go in just to get the best americano ever.

oh, coffee, i love you.  i don't know why anyone would ever want to give up coffee.

what's a beginner grinder run? I drink at work and have a french press at home but rarely use it over the Bunn. too much clean up. Do you guys just use tap water? I kinda think my water makes a big difference in my coffee at home...

I started roasting organic coffee beans. It's a bit of a science getting the right blend, but it's worth it. My coffee tastes a lot fresher and better than it did when I just ground it with pre-packaged beans.

I've started harvesting my own organic beans.  I trek in using mules I raise on my own ranch; It's a lot of effort but I find the coffee to be much tastier, however those pesky lions can be something of a problem.

I always run my coffee water through my brita pitcher filter. It makes a whole lot of difference. You should taste the crap people make at work (I make it in my own room). Unfiltered water, weak, and scorched on burner too long. I bought a krups grinder many years ago for about $20 and it still works great.

i know it seems asinine, but if you use refrigerated (some degree of cold) water, bring it to a boil then let it cool off a bit, it makes a big difference in taste.  i think water that's about 190 degrees is optimal.

You are right. Somewhere below boiling is the best. Also if you use a conical hand pour method be sure and "bud" the grounds by pouring a little bit over them without floating before doing the major pour. This thread has inspired me to take my grinder to work and locate some good beans!

So.......fresh ground Peruvian "Cafe Femenino" (grown, processed, and traded by women) which is organic, shade grown, and fair trade certified. Beat that spring water!   ;)
Mistakes: white paper filter with an automatic, should have been a brown paper filter with a conical hand pour.

Started getting serious in '87 when I developed film for Kodak during the Pan Am games. Met some Danish fellows who set up the Refrema E6 machine I was working on.
Apparently they are very serious about their coffee as they turned me on to a mix that they were having roasted across the street at Union Station. 1/3 Sumatran, 1/3 Ethiopian, and 1/3 Colombian on a French roast. Bought that for a few years until that place went out of business, and after that have been in and out of the loop drinking plain old Maxwell good to the last drop in between samples of blended coffees from the Northwest. As far as getting fresh roasted in Indy right now, am not really sure.

If you have to use automatic drips, use the gold mesh filters (i preferred my french press whenever I had a chance to use it over the drip pot). You may get a small amount of grit at the bottom of the pot if you use too fine of a grind, but your coffee will taste better. Invest in a burr grinder with many settings. You can get decent ones from $20-30.

Do try to drink reputable free trade organic, preferably shade grown. It taste better and is better for the poor basterd farmers.

When I stopped drinking a few weeks ago, I was heavily into African origin coffees. It doesn't get much better then Yirgacheffe.

top that!

Got the Yirgacheffe and plan on grinding some in a few hours.   10-6!    ;)

Told ya.

Now try it Vietnamese style. Ridiciously strong (works bst with a French Press or a Vietnamese Drip Pot) coffee and you line the bottom of your cup with an assload of Sweetend Condensed Milk. It is phenomanal.

Man thats some serious java!!  I'm thirsty.   I think I'll go downstairs to the company break room & pour me a cup.

Brewed 4 hrs ago from one of those industrial turbo brew machines (pour down the top & immediately starts coming out)

Walmart brand grounds out of the can with the lid open for the last 2 days - follow that up with some generic non dairy creamer.  Yummmy!!

I almost forgot - it pours hot enough to strip paint.  I've got to fill my h=mug half way with ice so I can start to drink it inside this next hour.
