Serious discussion.
On my way to work this morning, a segment on the radio came on about a guy being arrested for child pornography.
This got me thinking, "What did the common man (or woman) do without porno, say, back in the 1830's?"
Most of us take for granted the fact that we discovered a lot about sex, or sex positions, or whatever, by stumbling onto our Dad's porn stash when we were 9 years old, or accidentally landing on the fuzzy nudey channel when we least expected it.
What did the prarie dwellers do? Seriously? What did your average Joe do when suddenly faced with the challenge of pleasing a woman without actually having seen one naked up until that point? Did nature just take its course? Or was it just awful intercourse, leading the couple to call it quits after the first couple of children (who would help on the farm) could be born?
Or was old time porn readily available and was just kept REALLY secret?

Porn (either raunchy or artist) has been around for ages. Some of the most explict stuff I've seen has been some of the art from India and Japan from hundreds of years ago. Plus Erotic Lit was around during Roman times and before.
Not sure if the good stuff was around with the pioneers, other then Lili Von Shtupp coming around for a show and bringing her schnitzengruben. Don't forget, America was founded by prudes. I think when the mode was right, they just let nature take it's course.

Well, photography is really a relatively new invention (relative to how long people have been having sex), and obviously motion pictures are even newer, so porn as we know and love it hasn't been available for that long. And while erotic art and literature has certainly been around for a long time, I think most people didn't have access to it, or were shamed into avoiding it. I think that the 1830s prarie folks probably had some awkward tries, but probably learned about sex from older friends, or drunk, foul-mouthed trappers raising hell in town, or whores, or maybe they saw some bison or prarie dogs going at it, and took the lead from their fellow mammal brothers and sisters. Prarie doggie style...
plus, people got married back in the day when they were mere teenagers.
