Title: NFL predictions?
Post by: peanut butter puddin surprise on Jan 07, 2005, 10:54 AM
Okay, I'll admit here to being a football fan (the Steelers, of course  :)) so what are your predictions for this playoff season?

Here's mine:

Steelers over Eagles in Super Bowl, 27-17

Odds the Smooth Operator will drink a tall glass of Knob Creek while watching the Superbowl Shuffle on the big screen, and sob like a little girl at the days gone by. 2-1

Odds the Smooth Operator will begin to feel uncomfortable in his sexuality watching Mike Tomzack fake playing a guitar.  Even

I'll take the Pats and Seahawks in the big game.  Seattle was my preseason pick and though they limped into the playoffs, I'm sticking with em'!

AFC - don't know, too many teams that are too damn good

NFC - should not be invited to the Super Bowl

I am calling a rousing half-time show featuring Ashlee Simpson.

How many teams are playing in this thing?
Give me a list!
We could all pick teams and follow them.

I know.  I'm sad like that :-/

You have to appreciate, I know bugger all about the game, so I'd be perfect to pick a team.

The Dolphins win it all...oh sorry I was dreaming there for a minute. ;D

Patriots vs Eagles....Pats win! Tom Brady is the second best QB next to Peyton.

But I am pulling for the Green Bay Packers....Go Favre!

Thanks for that EC.

On the basis that I've read it and still don't understand it, I'll pick the Colts.

A good choice?
Don't care they are now my team.

The Colts have the best Quarterback in Football.Peyton Manning...they can score a lot of points...unfortunately,their defense is not great so they get a lot of points scored on them as well...they still have a chance, but I think the Steeleres or the Patriots are the best teams in the AFC.

p.s.  I say that based on the ONE football (CFL Argos) game I ever went to, and that was in 1984.  ha!

Oh yes, EC, you can definitely do that. And doctorinthehouse, you can basically cheer anything you like as long as it involves:

1) Heckling the referees/the other team's fans.
2) Imbibing lots of potable liquids.
3) Screaming loud obscenities and spilling/throwing said liquids.
4) Yelling like a banshee until you're hoarse.

Football (however you define it) is a great sport!  ;D

Yes,they are very good,it will be a test for the Colts. If they can beat the Patriots, they could go all the way to the superbowl.

Title: Re: NFL predictions?
Post by: SmoothOprtr on Jan 10, 2005, 10:23 AM
I can tell you who won't win this coming weekend- The Colts.
Payton Manning hasn't won a significant game since at least high school.  He has choked in every big game versus a top opponent he's played, both at the University of Tennessee and Indy.  Denver was a weak opponent, but NE will be showing up.

Holgrem should get fired or you know Shaun Alexander isn't coming back.  I don't doubt that Walter Jones and Ken Lucas want to be back either.  Hassleback porbably will be back but he was average this year and really don't thikn that he will be that highly pursued.  Once again, Holgrem can't figure it out.  Feel badly for the Chargers and that rookie kicker is going to be drunk for a month straight.

Title: Re: NFL predictions?
Post by: peanut butter puddin surprise on Jan 10, 2005, 12:44 PM
don't write off the Chargers for next year though...I think Brees made fools of those who chose over him.

also, I think Indy's going to have the floor wiped with itself by NE...to echo the above poster, I haven't seen Payton win a big, BIG game yet.  Tom Brady's had more playoff games in his sleep than this guy.

The Jets are getting their ass kicked AGAIN by Pittsburgh...so we're back to NE/Pitts in the AFC title game (again).

I see a Philly/Atlanta showdown in the NFC, but I don't have a high opinion of either team...go Stiilers! (ya gotta be from Pittsburgh to get that joke)

Seattle will franchise either Walter Jones or Shaun Alexander, meaning one of them will for sure be back.  They likely won't keep the other and regardless it likely won't save Holegram's job.

Greggy,Dog and pony was talking about the coach for the Seattle Seahawks,Mike Holgrem...they had the game won saturday and their field goal kicker missed an easy field goal.

To be fair to Peyton Manning,I don't think the Colts have had as good a team as needed to be in the playoffs.Lack of defense,no offensive line and only one good receiver has kept the Colts from winning the big game,it's not all Peyton's fault. But they have another chance next week.

Jets 17 Steelers 20

Geez.....the Jets really blew that game last night, had two chances to win it.The Steelers will play the winner of the Colts/Patriots game.

Falcons 47  Rams 17

The Falcons looked awesome last night, got that running game going, along with Michael Vick running and passing, they might have something for the winner of the Eagles/Vikings game.

Steelers over the Jets 20-17 in OT.Hope Mr.Conaway survived the big game Saturday.Maybe luck is on the Steelers side this year.Roethlisberger finally looked like a rookie after playing so great the whole season.Bettis fumbles for the first time all year.Sometimes it's better to be lucky than good and it looks like the Steel Curtain are both this year. The Terrible Towel is back!

LOL

Look, this guy have never won one big game. He lost them all in college and left with no national championships and now has a 3-6 playoff record as a pro.  The three wins came this year against Denver and last year against Denver and KC which were all very winnable games.  As soon as he has to beat an opponent who might cause him some difficulty he chokes.
Title: Re: NFL predictions?
Post by: sweatboard on Jan 17, 2005, 01:00 PM
Don't hate.
I'm a graduate of the University of Tennessee and I can tell you that he did win plenty of big games.  Just because he left without a National Championship doesn't mean he sucks or can't win a big game.  It's takes a team to win a championship.  Tee Martin won a National Championship and you can see where that got him in the NFL.  Peyton is an outstanding Quarterback and an even better person.  New England was the better team, end of story.

Exactly.Peyton is the best QB in the league, that doesn't mean he is on the best team.Any team in the NFL would shell out the big bucks for this guy,one bad game doesn't destroy all his accomplishments.

Next weeks games,my predictions:
Patroits 24...Steelers 10(Sorry John, but Pittsburgh didn't really look good saturday against the Jets)
Falcons 28....Eagles 14

Anyone who has played inside and claims so much dominance just isn't playing in reality, IMHO.  Like baseball, each stadium has its own quirks, and most are outside (correct me if I'm wrong here).  Sure is easy to win games inside, when the temp and weather are controlled.  How easy is it to win when its 10?  or snowing?  or raining?

that's the main thing that bothered me about indy.  49 td's don't mean shit if you can't win in the cold.

now, the steelers of course can play outside, but WTF was the jets game??  what a mess.  they don't deserve to play this coming weekend, but they will.

Steelers got damn lucky and am hoping that Bene will re-group and make it happen this weekend.  We all knew the Colts were going to choke one more time.  Hoping that Atlanta shows up so that the Eagles lose for the 4th time in a row and TO does not make it to the big show.

Title: Re: NFL predictions?
Post by: SmoothOprtr on Jan 18, 2005, 12:03 PM
It's impossible to ignore Manning's big game history.  Tom Brady has never been considered half as skilled, has weak WRs, TEs, Oline, and till this year RBs.  Yet he's on the verge of his third Superbowl in 4 years while Manning has an awful record in the playoffs, and couldn't beat Florida in college.  While I agree 100% with your statements about team play, the whole world sucks this guys dick every time he calls an audible, every time he throws a TD, every time the Colts win, etc... therefore, it's only fair that he take the brunt of the blame when they lose.  With a severly weakened Pats defense, the regular season best QB and offense couldn't put up more than 3 points (and that drive Manning hit a Pats defender in the hands and was lucky to walk away with three).

yup, the fan worship of manning is a bit too much.  i just don't get it, amazing numbers but no amazing super bowl rings.

I can see the headline now...

"is Peyton Manning to quarterback as OJ Simpson is to running back?"
Title: Re: NFL predictions?
Post by: The_Link on Jan 18, 2005, 12:58 PM
Sorry to say, and I do not mean to count them out like many did the Patriots, but I cannot see the Steelers winning after that game against the Jets.  And, the Pats making a statment against the Colts.  I would say, that the Steeelers are the closest thing to a team in the NFL after the Pats and deserve to playing for the championship.  Again, the NFC is weak in this regard, and the Falcons will have no chance to beat either team after beating the Eagles this week.  Yes, I am taking the falcons over the Eagles.  It will be close, but the Eagles offense is going to be held to only 14 points, and the Falcons are going to slip in a third touchdown in the 4th, and defeating the Eagles 21-7.  Pats win 24-10.
Superbowl Pats 17-10 over Atlanta
