By now, I am sure everyone has heard that he is not going to act anymore. Rather, he wants to be an R&B musician. Check out this clip from Letterman a couple nights ago.

yeah can't figure out what's up w/him? meth? heroin? just alcohol? just bored w/his career? he's a great actor but i'm sure he's not right in the head.
I watched that the other night and I was physcially pained watching him go through that interview. I have no idea what is going on with him, but whatever it is isn't good.
Yeah, he has some issues right now. If he puts his mind to it, he can probably be a fine musician. It is just getting out of that funk.
Supposedly a joke or something.
Here is the full clip, shows a lot more.

Casey Affleck is following him around with a camera for a documentary, which is making some speculate that his supposed decent into insanity is an act.

Hopefully this is the case, because not only will it be funny, but that means hell be acting again

I was under the assumption everyone knew this was a supposed hoax. I'm really hoping he's running it into the ground.

Cool..I wish I could make headlines by putting on 30 lbs and looking like a slob ;D
On another note, he grew that beard crazy fast!! Seemed like that was only 2 months ago or so when he made the initial announcement, and his beard is ginormous
I think it's a hoax.
well, if it's a hoax, check this one out about Casey. i just saw this off the Phoenix link above.

i get the feeling he's TRYING to rip off jj's look, excepting the sunglasses...
regardless, he's definitely trying to be something he's not.
I thought he was going for the Jim Morrison look actually.
Joaquin has got one thing that neither of those great beards have...
The bald, scar spot.

What, a hippy?
I certainly don't think he's 'ripping off' anyone's image or 'trying to be something he's not'
Let's not forget that his parent's were hippies/travellers/members of a religious cult & that his name was once Leaf (brother to River, Liberty, Rain & Summer) So I would say he looks (& is acting) a lot like the way he was brought up. Throw the death of his brother & some drugs (a lot of drugs?!!) into the equation & maybe that goes someway towards explaining his recent behavior.
He's always been a little 'out there' (I remember a red carpet interview from a few years back when he kept talking about a frog in his hair) + he suffered some kind of breakdown whilst filming Walk The Line.
Makes me feel sad, I think he's an excellent actor & wish him all the best, whatever he decides to do. I just hope he doesn't go the same way his brother went...
When I was at my grandparents for dinner earlier today, my Grandma even asked me "Did you see that Phoenix from Walk the Line on Letterman last night??"
I say yeah, I saw it.
My grandfather interjects, "He looked like he was on all kinds of drugs"
Even the senior citizens know about Joaquin's meltdown :D ;D :D
could he be inline for the jerry in the dead movie?????
Quotecould he be inline for the jerry in the dead movie?????
I like this idea...Although Im not sure if his personality/skills are right for Jerry. They were perfect for Cash, but Jerry IDK.
I cant say I can think of someone I think would pull off a better Jerry than him at this moment though.
Philip Seymour Hoffman with his hair dyed?? :-?
nate of the new heathens has got jim morrison covered, thank you.
Quotenate of the new heathens has got jim morrison covered, thank you.
They already made a Doors movie. Val Kilmer did a great job as Jim.
you just got to meet nate.

I'm still holding out that it's a hoax.
He's such a fantastic actor and I'd hate to see him never make another movie.
After hearing about the David Letterman show for days, I finally took a look.
My vote is hoax. He certainly didn't seem under the influence, just uncomfortable. Maybe that's just my hope since the dude is an incredibly gifted actor.
Whatever the case, I hope he finds his bliss.
I don't know, if I were young, rich, talented and good looking I'd probably do something like this just to see how much attention I would get. Pretty amusing (and sad) that so many people are wrapped up in one man's jock. I'm sure him and his buddies are laughing their asses off; he's not a dumb guy.
In light of all this, decided to pull Clay Pigeons out of the collection last night....love that flick [smiley=thumbsup.gif]
Reminds me of Andy Kaufman's counterpart...Tony Clifton.
Hmm he seems pretty with it when he needs to be ;)

Ha! That's funny. I thought that was Jim when I took a quick look...then I remembered what the thread was about.
Holy shit, thats it!!!
Joaquin's preparing for his next role of Jim James, a movie focused on the meteoric rise of the band My Morning Jacket :o [smiley=vrolijk_26.gif] [smiley=2vrolijk_08.gif] [smiley=vrolijk_26.gif] [smiley=tekst-toppie.gif]
I'm 99% sure that was a hoax. Letterman's pisstaking of him seemed pre-arranged. I don't think a chat show host would be that rude from the outset.
And the beard looked suspiciously fake.

Whether its a hoax or not, it was going on for awhile before Letterman the other night

It seemed to me that Letterman was surprised and didn't know what to say next. Thought he did good though. Ha!

;D ;D ;D
just read the interview - smart guy - if his record is coming out soon then what a great way to pique interest. use the studio money spent to plug the film to market his own image and stir interest.
drugged
weird
melting
what's new there about anyone who is ready to market their ass in front of an audience?
can't believe anyone is taking this seriously.
at least on the forum we are in training for a mmj phd. ;D
