Title: 6 Overtimes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Post by: Love Dogg on Mar 13, 2009, 01:48 AM
This thread can be moved to the March Mayhem thread at any time, but I want to point out that this game between Syracuse and UConn was the most amazing basketball game ever played.

Syracuse takes UConn in 6 overtimes in the Big East Tournament at Madison Square Garden, which is a place that is no stranger on this Forum.  The good thing is that Louisville's chances of winning the Big East Tournament...just got better!

Agreed and agreed.  That game was pretty sick last night.  I think Louisville is now the odds on favorite, but Big East basketball says anyone can win in the tourney.

I slept through overtime # 1, woke up, and watched the rest.  Amazing.

Yup, I hit the second OT and called it quits.  I would've stayed up if I knew what was going to happen.  DAMN!

Duplicate threads never get merged.  Mods don't care.

I wish I could have stayed up for that whole game.  I fell asleep after the first OT and woke up in the middle of the night right when the highlights were coming on ESPN. I had to pinch myself to make sure I was awake.

Good day for the Cards, they take care of business and three potential number ones go down.  If UofL wins the next two games, what "expert bracketologist" is going to claim they don't deserve a #1?

Part of them likely getting a #1 seed by winning the Big East tournament was partially based on them chalking up an away game win over Pitt or UConn. They dont have that chance now, and that actually hurts them since both Pitt and UConn still have stronger schedules.

I personally think they should probably be a #1 still if they win it, but with them now beating a tired Syracuse or 7th seeded WVU in the championship (that is if the beat Nova first) it doesnt look as good as what most expected they wouldve beaten to win the tourney.

FYI

Louisville SOS is 17th in the nation; UConn's is 21; Pitt is 6.

I did say stronger schedules, and I partially meant that, but I also meant signature wins too.

All they have really is Pitt @ home and @ Nova...I wouldnt call the Marquette one big since James was hurt already

Keep altering your post to make it fit your argument. Let us know when you're done so we'll know what the hell you're talking about then we can comment.

I didnt alter anything..who cares how strong a team's schedule is if they dont win the big games?? wins matter.

And I said I personally would make Louisville a #1 if they win the Big East tourney, but it hurts them that they wont have an away/neutral win vs. Pitt or UConn under their belt - something they didnt do in the regular season. I dont even think thats arguable, its obvious. Beating 1 of them instead of WVU or a tired Cuse - IF they get by Nova right now - wouldve made it much easier for the committee to make them a 1 seed

obviously you do or you wouldn't have brought it up. Here's you own words:

both Pitt and UConn still have stronger schedules.

Did you mention "wins"? No. You mentioned "stronger schedules". Do you not remember what you post? Does your computer not have that cool "scroll up" feature?

Come on man, try to keep up here.

Let's go Orange!

One of my favourite players growing up was Syracuse's Leo Rautins (but he's a bad announcer and weak National Team coach). Seeing his one-dimensional son Andy lighting it up from the perimetre was great (how do you like all those Canadian spellings, eh?).

Did I say I didnt mention stronger schedules?! I didnt mention wins in my OP despite thinking it, which is why I brought it up after your response.

Maybe you could respond with some of your opinion on the situation instead of just being a screwdriver and nitpicking semantics

And Louisville having a SOS 4 higher than UConn is a moot point because in their only meeting, UConn won.

FYI

I'm just trying to figure out what your point is.  ;D

"both Pitt and UConn still have stronger schedules"

"who cares how strong a team's schedule is"

"Did I say I didnt mention stronger schedules?!"

I hope you sort this shit out and bring it a little stronger once the tourney starts. Weak   weak    weak

let me rephrase that so you understand my intent - "both pitt and uconn still have stronger resumes" , and by that, I mean stronger resumes than Louisville's now known championship opponent - Syracuse.

before pitt and uconn lost, they were both slotted as #1 seeds, whereas louisville wasnt. everyone was saying that if louisville won the big east tournament, it would be hard not to make them a #1 seed - HOWEVER - it was expected that they wouldve had to beat pitt or uconn to do this, which is not the case. Since they wont be getting the marquee win that most thought they would by winning the BET, them achieving this feat would no longer be seen as important as it wouldve been, thus making them winning the tournament as a less likely reason to slot them as a #1 seed.

since you like throwing numbers out there, im interested - what are pitt, uconn, and louisville's RPI's, respectively?

Gordon is from Jackson, Mississippi and we used to watch him play High School ball at Jim Hill. He'd have these epic battles against Micahel Phelps who played in nearby Vicksburg and went on to play for the Supersonics. Jackson has always been a hot bed for high school talent, even back in the day. Good times.

In fact, at one point, Murrah High had 4 pro players in the NBA at the same time, which is pretty amazinf for a straight up public school: Lindsay Hunter, othella Harrington, Ronnie Henderson and James Robinson.

The Louisville teams that Lancaster played for were awesome to watch. One of the best college games I've ever seen was when Gordon's stacked Louisville team played Phi Slama Jama back in '82 or '83. The tomahawks were slamming all game and Gordon was great. So much talent on the court too.

For a #1 for sure.  However, he got me a rotisserrie basketball championship as a Bullet for a year!!!  He filled up the stat sheets for a year or two
