Title: Who the hell are ya?!
Post by: tomEisenbraun on Jun 25, 2008, 03:28 AM
After sifting through the member pics thread, the occupations thread, the our art, our favorite music, our music, our video game collections, Wilford Brimley enthusiasts, and llama support intl. threads, I decided it would be a decent idea to sort of compile those up a bit. I've been around a while, and so have a lot of you other guys. unfortunately, I only know a select few of you guys, sort of just because of regional divides, I think, but hell, why not have a spot where you can give a brief bio and just say hey and introduce yourself along with a picture, so we can get an idea of who we're talking to? I'm sure there's a few well-known faces around here, especially Tracy's with his wonderful pictures--let's put 'em all together. I just realized I'd never said anything personal to K the other day, and really had no idea who he was or where he came from, and have been having that lately with a few other people, so why not pull it all together and just sort of say "Hey!" again now that everything's moving pretty solidly back toward civility?

I'll start!

I'm Tom. I'm about to head into my senior year at University of Georgia studying English, hoping to get into teaching high school English when I get out. I grow beards. I also play music. I lived in Nashville for a couple years while attending Belmont University and I love that city a lot. It bums me out that they didn't have exceptional state schooling there, otherwise I would've gone somewhere I could have afforded and stayed in that area. No regrets, though. I've actually got a bit more of a chance to play out here in Athens, and I think the music scene here is a little smaller and more accessible, thankfully. I'm 20 and would very much like to have a basement shop where I could build new instruments.

Science intrigues me a lot, as well as the origin of things. I believe in God, and identify with Christianity strongest, but I'm not sure I fit into any of that too horribly well anymore. It's a big journey. That's cool. I'm figuring how to navigate it without burning out too quickly.

I tend to have a beard (most recent pic):

Last spring I had a moustache:

But I finally figured out how to properly trim a beard rather than shaving the sucker off every two months or so and restarting. Currently aiming for the Leonidas:

Now if I could only passively grow Gerard Butler's torso from that movie...

I love this board.  Despite recent happeninings.  I am a legal secretary in Portland, Oregon. My first concert was John Denver.  My mom got his pick and his cup of tea afterward.  He took it sweet. (http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o291/okonokos/Austin2007018.a.jpg) The End.

I-5 is the one that runs up the coast correct?  If so, that is a BEAUTIFUL drive!

Good idea Tom. Maybe this will kind help ease some tensions around here. I'll post something later (fresh picture). Need to take care of the kiddies this morning as I'm Mr. Mom today.

Hi, I am Meg. I work in radio, and I live in South Central Kentucky. I am engaged to Brad "AngryEwok," and I will be moving to Tuscaloosa, Alabama as soon as I can find a radio job there.

My first Jacket show was Exit/In in June of 2004, and it was a pretty sweet show. I didn't know it at the time, but a good deal of forum OG's were in the mix that night.

Likes: Oldies music, Mr. Show, anything on the Food Network, fall, our West Highland White Terrier (Sammy Davis Junior, Jr.), pie

Dislikes: drama, dishonesty, Dave Ramsey, the word "wharf," Everybody Loves Raymond, wearing socks

You single out the word "wharf" as a dislike Meg? It's part of my favourite Dead song: "Wharf Rat".

I don't take too many things personally. I agree with your other words too, and I really hate moist on two levels:  the word itself and the horrid defunct Canadian band from the 90's of the same name.

The drive to do is up the 101.  A very long trip, but beautiful.  Northern Cali, up to the (protected and public) Oregon coast.  Pick your route east and head up the I-5 to the promised land.  I love Portland and would love to treat you to a fine glass of Oregon wine or beer (whatever is your flavor).  Once photobucket lets me upload again (anyone else having this issue recently?  with a mac?)....I will post a pic and bio.

Okay, so I need some suggestions on some other photo sharing sites.  I have no idea why photobucket will not respond to my commands to upload, but nothing happens.  so my bio will be from some old photos.....

My name is Liz (this is a photo of me and my dear friends' munchkin who was born this March)

I am short and no matter how close I am at a show, someone taller is always in front of me  :-/..... oh well.

I work in the footwear biz (I do alot being a co-owner of a store, but my favorite part of the job is buying).

I love MMJ and was at the show this was taken at

And because I made this t-shirt, I got on the forum after it caught Ms. Yvon's eye at the show (and was mentioned in a thread)

It's great out there, they haven't done much with crazy horse. It is magnificent. It is amazing how big this country really is until you travel it and see the wide open spaces.  I thought deadwood was cool. We did sturgis and bought a butt  load of t-shirts.

No not this trip. The herds were not out.  We did see a ton of the wild mules, those guys a pretty ballsy, they will come right up to  you and  will give you some religon on a motorcycle with no protection. I am actually glad we didn't run into any MASSIVE buffalo.  I don't want to be the first to get mounted by a buffalo.

I don't know how to do this. I'm Jenny and i think i'm the second youngest jacket-er here. 17 on the 28th of this month. I live in boston and it's totally awesome. I like pizza. and pizza parties. and also napping and saved by the bell, or napping WITH saved by the bell. i've played the trumpet for close to ten years, and i like it and i'm a nerd, but i don't care.  i don't like a whole lot of people, but the people i do like i like a lot. i'm neurotic and a worrier. i worry about everything and everything that i possibly can. i'm obsessive compulsive to the point where my foods can't be touching each other on a plate. but somehow i've found someone that'll put up with that bullshit and we've been together for 6 months and it's wonderful and he just finished art school and we're making a comic book this summer and it will be on sale and all of you should buy it.

i really like music from new zealand recently
other favorite music includes animal collective (panda by himself, also), pavement, dirty projectors, tall dwarfs, faust and phil elvrum of course.

i wish i watched more movies.
i want to go to tufts when it's time for htat and do the joint program with either the new england conservatory or the school of the museum of fine arts, and if that don't work out then i'm moving to new york and hopefully going to NYU or the new school or some tiny liberal arts school nobody's heard about.

Oh, and this is my passport picture. I have angst, and I think i'll regret this before it expires in 2017.

Name: Bradley Smith
Most folks call me Brad. My family has always called me Bradley, but not long ago I noticed that a lot of my closer friends, or at least the ones who hold some special endearment towards me, also call me Bradley. I don't know why that happens like that, but I think it's neat. I don't have a preference between the two, so I always introduce myself as Brad. Nice to meet you.

Forum Alias: Angry Ewok
I'm a star wars dork and since I'm absolutely fearless at 5'5, the name is perfect.

Occupation: Serigraph Artist & Printer, Webmaster
I work for a hapless publishing company... it's rough and my pay is awful, but I'm hoping I can gain enough studio experience running our silk-screen press that I will be able to go into business for myself someday. I love the entire process of silk screening - from the design to the physical printing. I've been fortunate to be able to do a freelance art and design for a couple of years - more this year than all of the years previous, it seems.

Background: All of this is true.
I was born in Georgia, overlooking the Kennesaw Mountain battlefield. My home was in Marietta, where most of the actual fighting occurred. Likely because of this, and my family history, I love American history, wars in particular, and I consider myself a modern Southern Gentleman. I was raised on a sail boat, so I'm also a seaman at heart - I got my sea legs before I was a week old and am thus immune to sea sickness. Despite that I suffer from galeophobia, the fear of sharks. I now reside in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. I love Alabama Football... I am a Crimson Tide season ticket holder.

Passion: My Morning Jacket
My first concert ever was an MMJ performance. I've been to 9 shows since June 2005 and I have three more scheduled this year. I've met the entire band, several staffers, and over a dozen fellow Jacketeers and Vikings. Since the beginning I've wanted to design a poster for an MMJ concert. I've also wanted to visit The Tennessee Fire - something I was able to do a couple of weeks ago. One day, I want my art on an MMJ album - even if it's just the liner notes or the sticker that's slapped onto the center of the vinyl. One day, I want to follow MMJ on an entire leg of a tour. The best thing ever would be if MMJ performed on stage with The Muppets.

Damn Tom, that second one is bad ass. You need a slow, deep southern drawl for that pic.

Hi, I'm Mike. I live in a bedroom community outside of St Louis, MO. I'm originally from Omaha, NE (GO HUSKERS). Married 11 years with 2 kids. Trying to learn to play guitar and it's going sloooooooowly. I've now met 2 of our members and soon will meet a third. I have a long list of y'all I'd love to meet and have a beverage of 3 with.

I work in downtown St Louis for formally Ralston Purina, now part of the world of Nestle. Yes, that means I work for Willy Wonka. Some of you may remember about a year ago I was on the verge of quitting and having a breakdown of sorts because of my job. Thankfully I'm in a better position that is still stressful at times (and my boss is the living version of Dr Jekyl and Ms Hyde) but it's much better.

I love food and booze. Vodka and beer/ale/stouts are my drinks of choice. I'll also pound Sirazh like there's no tomorrow. All time favorite dish is Beef Wellington. BBQ seriously moves me. I haven't meet too many desserts I didn't like.

I'm kinda of a sci-fi and fantasy dork. I used to run marathons and 1/2 marathons but stopped as my knees suck gopher balls so now I just hit the elliptical and stationary bikes. I would like by favorite bands but it's too long. It would include MMJ, Flaming Lips, Beatles, Doors, Supergrass just to name a few. I cook, clean, and love to do yard work. I have a deep seeded passion for redheads (but didn't marry one, go figure)

Anything thing else I missed?

Hello, I'm Matt.  I am 35, married to the girl I met as a sophomore in college back in '92.  Next month will mark our 10th anniversary.  We have two sons, 6 and 2, who are the loves of our lives.
I first found this forum when I was just looking for some info. on MMJ.  Before this, I never really was involved in a forum, but the folks on here seemed pretty cool and passionate about MMJ, so I lurked for a while before setting up an account (about a month before all the shit hit the fan), and I must say I'm glad I opened that account.  It's pretty cool that many of you have some sort of relationship with the band and also each other.  .  Mabye I'll run into a few of you somewhere down the line, my wife and I will be at Waterfront Park, and I'm dragging a friend to Detroit.
I love anything outdoors, do alot of hiking with the family, also love gardening.  Linville River Gorge area is one of my favorite places to backpack, and I love sinking my toes in the sand, mostly at various NC beaches.  I like most sports and I think my 6 year old is going to follow in my footsteps.  I'd like to have a conversation with Jim about faith, I think he could teach me a few things.
As for music, there are so many to list, but the Dead is and always will be at the top.  MMJ, of course (when I first found these guys, there music touched me ), and the Avett Brothers, Ekoostik Hookah (I've been seeing these guys since they started out), Joni Mitchell, The Band.  I also live in a college town, Athens, OH, so I check out as much local music as I can.  Southeast Engine is one local band that some on here may have heard of.

The boys and me

Sam really liked his log

They both love to fish

hey guys... popping up from forum oblivion...

my name's ali, i'm from australia. uh... g'day. i don't have any pix of me handy, but i'll find something to post up here....

i'm an architect, living in melbourne for the past 6 years. i grew up in tasmania, an island off the south coast of australia (yes, we do exist, and we do have tasmanian devils, although i wouldn't advise patting them, they'll rip your hand/arm off :) )

i've not been posting here for a while as i've been running a large construction project that has completely taken over my life, but is nearly finished (4 weeks to go), so for those poor patient souls who i owe mixtapes to, i haven't forgotten you and you will see a package from me shortly.

as well as being a bit of an architecture nerd, i'm very much into music - i love finding new things that take my fancy, even if they are weird, mainstream, dorky... who cares. (flight of the conchords album anyone??) if i like it, i like it.  i play violin, piano, have been teaching myself bass guitar for a while, and recently have taken possession of a lovely red electric guitar of my brother's so when i get some time i'll be playing around on that.  this is now sounding a bit "personals", but i love history, learning languages (french, a bit of japanese, german), and chocolate.  it's also been a ginormous pleasure to get to know the people on this board, who have time & again shown themselves to be among the most interesting, diverse, musically-literate bunch of people i have yet to come across. if i lived closer, it would be a pleasure to hang out with any & all of you. if anyone comes over for a holiday, give me a bell.

other than that, i'm single (work haspure & simple killed my social life) turning 30 in about 6 weeks and planning a holiday to the land of the lord of the rings (here's hoping it's filled with jemaine clement clones!).  i STILL haven't seen mmj, cos they haven't toured here for what seems like forever... but guaranteed when they do announce a tour, you will probably hear the screams of joy from where you guys are!!!  :D

Ali!!! Another Aussie! I'm Serena, I'm 18 and I work in a freight company. It's my first job so I don't plan on staying. Im just saving for a trip to Seattle cause I want to visit the Soundgarden. I haven't figured the rest of my life out yet. I play guitar, drums and a little bass. I want to learn keyboards but I'm too lazy. I do photography too and I used to ride horses. I found MMJ from the Picture In A Frame (PJ) dvd and loved them instantly. Favourite bands are: Foo Fighters, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, The Police, Queen The Who, Zeppelin, Neil Young, Taylor Hawkins and the Coattail Riders, Kings Of Leon, Tom Petty and of course MMJ. Favourite musicians are Taylor Hawkins and Matt Cameron.  :)

Hi, my name is Braden. I live in Sacramento, California, and other than a five year run after college in the Bay Area, I've lived in the Sacramento Valley my whole life. I'm married to the sweetest woman I've ever met - it'll be two years this September. I work as an engineer, designing mechanical systems for buildings. Most of the time I think my job is pretty cool.

I LOVE the outdoors, love to backpack, and have always loved the feeling of being in deep wilderness (jeez, lovefest around here). The Sierra Nevada mountains are my favorite place in the world. I also fish as often as I can. I'm a huge Raiders fan. I love books, and read mostly fiction. Lonesome Dove is probably my favorite book EVER. As far as music goes, first comes the Stones, then, well...

Politically, I'm fiscally conservative/socially liberal, which probably aligns me most with the Libertarians, though I officially have no party affiliation, and can't stand politicians. I love religion, all religions really, though I mostly like learning about them and keeping a safe distance. I love drinking...lately it's been good tequila (Don Julio Reposado) and cheap beer (Miller Lite). I ride my bike to work. When I say bike, I mean bicycle.

My name is Eric, I'm 31, and I've been a jacket fan for about 5 years now. My wife Carolyn and I live in Chicago and have been happily married for about 2 and a half years. I have since converted her into a jacket fan as well. We love being outside. Whether it be camping or just hangin with our friends. Here's a pic of us on a float trip in Missouri last summer:
We have a goofy ass pooch named Gracie. She's a part english bulldog, part beagle. This is her about 3 months old:
Huge fan of music. I'm in a few bands right now. One is a cover band and the other an original. We actually just got signed to a local small label and are recording now. I play bass and acoustic guitar. I'm totally fanatic about the Chicago Cubs, probably to a fault but oh well. Here's the misses and I doing what we do best - boozin it up at Wrigley:

And here's a cool pic that was taken while camping last year in Wisconsin. I just like the way it looks:

Hey guys! Great to see the pictures and get to know the names! And Braden, which part of Chicago do you live in?

I forgot to mention earlier that when I'm not cultivating my facial hair, I'm normally sneakin in kisses to this one:

Sometimes I rope her into the cultivation process...

Paige and I have been dating for what, a year and a half? Little bit longer than that? It's pretty awesome. And she's gorgeous. And I think I'll keep her around.

(She's been gone a good week and a half and gets home tomorrow and I couldn't be readier, as is probably evidenced by my sappy posting.)

OK, Tracy here. I'm 44 and tired of Flava Flav. Born in
New Orleans, raised in Mississippi, living in Nashville.
Raised on rock and roll, Dean Martin, Jim Croce, the
soundtrack from The Good, the Bad and the Ugly as well as
Herb Albert. My sister left the house when she was 17
and I was 7 and I inherited all her albums (Beatles,
Zeppelin, Allman Bros., etc...). I drank and did drugs
during the entire 80's. I cleaned up in 1989. Did 4 years
in US Coast Guard in Maine and Massachusetts. Die hard
Saints fan. Ole Miss guy. Pinball is my favorite past time
and I am a wizard. I love to get in the car and go. I
am drawn to the outdoors and breath taking beauty; the
Redwoods of California, the coast of Maine, Black Hills and
Badlands of South Dakota, Taos, any ocean. Raised a
Christian but exploring different spiritual connections. I work
with homeless drug addicts but would rather be facilitating Peacemaking Circles. Waited tables through college. I love
my backyard. My music collection ranges from Bach to Beatles
to Hank Snow to John Coltrane to Kratftwerk to X to James Taylor
to PJ Harvey. Married to a Jackethead who makes signs for the
band. 2 dogs, Sparky and Daisy (didn't someone here threaten to steal Sparky a while back?) Happy to be here, happy to
have made some real friends here. If I piss you off just PM
me and it'll be worked out. I am harmless, clueless, and
opinionated,

searching for the gift of presence.

Post by: Jaimoe on Jul 09, 2008, 02:08 PM
My real name is David Ball. "Jaimoe" is an underapprecitated member of my co-favourite band The Allman Brothers. I conned, I mean I got married two years ago to a lovely lady 9 years younger than me. She doesn't like Z, but I think she's wrong. No kids, but that has nothing to do with not liking Z.

I was born and raised in lovely Kingston, Ontario (where Lake Ontario ends and the St. Lawrence River and The Thousand Islands begin), which was the first capital of Canada and was the headquarters of the British fleet during the War of 1812.

I played baseball and mosty hockey throughout my youth. I quit hockey simply because I couldn't hit anyone in the non-checking men's leagues. I graduated with an English degree at Queen's University in 1991 and I then immediately moved to Toronto to pursue a degree in Radio & Television, which I achieved in 1994 (I actually wanted to be the next Johnny Fever, but in reality, radio is a nasty business).

I've worked for MuchMusic, Canada'a music station, in a technical broadcast capacity for over 10 years. I write music reviews for two web sites, Jambands.ca and SoundProof Magazine, although I don't really like to write.

I'm a flag-waving red-and-white bleeding Canadian with no political party affiliations, although I have voted for the New Democrat Party in recent years simply because they are pretty progressive and I live in their federal leader's riding (Canadian politics and voting is complicated). Oh yeah, I live in Riverdale, the largest neighbourhood in Canada - around 30 thousand. Riverdale also has Toronto's massive Greektown and Toronto's first Chinatown (we have around four). I'm also a passionate urbanist and I hate suburbia, "town destroyer" Wal-Mart and every other bi-product of urban sprawl.

I love all sports, but boxing and hockey top the list. My favourite sports teams are the Toronto Blue Jays, Boston Bruins, Toronto Raptors and Kingston Frontenacs (Ontario Hockey League - one of three junior CHL leagues where most of the players get drafted into the NHL). I'm also a die-hard Syracuse Orangemen fan and NCAA basketball. Syracuse is close to Kingston. I also workout like a crazy man.

I've been a struggling blues-based guitarist/songwriter for over 20 years. I like a lot of music, but my all-time favourites are The Who, The Allman Brothers, Jimi Hendrix, Neil Young, John Coltrane, blues (Delta and Muddy Waters Chicago), jazz, hard-core, punk (real punk), some metal etc... My all-time favourite book is The Lord of The Rings. I love old movies, foreign films and classic and contemporary TV too. I drink Canadian and European beer and dry, non-oaked white wine. I have never smoked, don't like drugs or drug addicts, but I realize many of my heroes are, or were trainwrecks: R.I.P. Keith Moon. I'm a fast-thinker and fast-talker (we know who we are). I also think in a stream of consciousness kind of way. I would love to meet CC Baxter, Tracy and a few others on the site and I'd like to take-in a Jays-Rays game in Toronto with Bowl of Soup.

Steve's my name. I live in Charleston, SC, and am 16 years old. I may or may not be the youngest member of this forum, no one has come forward to call themselves younger. I was born in Chicago, and raised on Chicago sports. I still root for the Cubs and Bulls at every chance. I used to be shy and a bit picky, but I've changed so much over the past 3 or 4 years so that those who knew me in middle school would be baffled by me now. The only person who thinks they've figured me out is my (slightly) younger sister, and I surprise her every day. I currently work at Yo Burrito, and have loads of fun with the coworkers there.

In recent years, music has become a huge part of my life. I took up the guitar a few years ago, and have had loads of fun with it ever since. There's just so much you can do with it. Favorite "other" bands are Radiohead, Led Zeppelin, Wilco, Allman Brothers, Yes, Band of Horses, Beck, The Who, Dead Confederate, Bruce Springsteen, Comets on Fire, Funkadelic (thanks Jim), Bob Dylan, Grateful Dead, Kings of Leon, Dr. Dog, R.E.M., Pink Floyd, The National, Pearl Jam, Smashing Pumpkins, Sonic Youth, Stevie Ray Vaughan, and so many more. I love going to watch absolutely awful movies with friends and do so on a regular basis, so my taste in movies is extremely flawed  ;D. Kurt Vonnegut is my favorite author. I haven't had a girlfriend in a long time, but I'm on the hunt.

Here's a pic of me from last year: (http://i117.photobucket.com/albums/o62/graybaka/stevepic1.gif)

The hotel at the Rogers Centre sucks. It's also in a dead-zone touristy area. I'll give you better options when and if the time arises. Can't say I'll be in Florida during the summer, but I may make it down in the winter at some point. Maybe I'll take in a Lightning game - I love Vinny Lecavalier, St. Louis and that Stamkos kid.

Kingston!  Awesome!  My parents have had a cottage on the St. Lawrence since before I was born.  Every summer of my life up until age 18 was spent frolicking in the 1000 Islands (our place is between Clayton and Alexandria Bay, NY).  We would always take a day trip on the boat down to Kingston to get a little city life!  Funny, I know, but if you have been to Clayton, you would understand!  I love the farmers market, the best damn maple syrup is sold there.  And there is a damn good Ice Cream parlor that I have fond memories of.....
My older sister and her family still call Alex Bay home and my parents spend their summers there.  I have not been back in years (I have lived in the NW  for 14 years and it can be difficult to find time to travel up there).
And my whole family is from Syracuse, so our blood runs orange!

Jaimoe here - I use ItStillJaimoe while I'm at work.

I've been to Clayton, but that was when I was a kid. I know that A-Bay and Clayton are cottage towns. Kingstonians have an affection for Upstate and Central New Yorkers. Hell, the Syracuse Chiefs (I refuse to call them Sky Chiefs) are the Blue Jays AAA affiliate. To be honest, I'm kinda scared of downtown Syracuse (although I haven't visited since the 90's), but I love SU and Syracuse residents. And I pronounce Syracuse correctly, unlike outsider folks that say "Seer-a-cuse". I was also weaned on Syracuse FM rock radio like defunct stations Kix FM and 94 Rock back in the 70's and 80's - although I believe one of these stations was from Fulton. I also grew up watching WSYR (ABC) along with Watertown WWNY (CBS) and WPBS. When my blood doesn't run red-and-white, it indeed runs orange too. Hey, is Dave Ball Chevrolet still going strong in Syracuse? I was always amused by his commercials given the name.

It really is.  And I can't believe you're only 16.  You're more mature than half the 'adult' men on here.   :P

Only because I have time to think out what I have to say. Sadly, I can seem pretty awkward in real life.  :-/

Age isn't really a definition of maturity, though. I think back to reviews of Juno when it came out, when a lot of people were saying that 16/17 year olds don't talk like that or know that much. In reality, it's pretty shocking how accurate that film is in a lot of ways. I happen to know someone quite similar in real life, fun-loving but wise beyond her years.

You are gonna get things a bit different from my perspective though, as obviously I haven't seen enough of the world.

I worked in Lombard for the last year and a half of high school at the Guitar ER--how long  have you been in Urbana/Champaign?

My name is Jason. Im 26 and live just outside Philadelphia in the suburb of Lansdowne. I graduated from Bloomsburg University with a BA in social work (minor in sociology), and Im a behavior specialist who provides therapeutic support to individuals with Autism. I also write/design behavior plans and protocols. Im halfway to a masters degree in social work but took some time off because Im thinking I may want to switch fields.

Im not originally from the Philly area; I grew up in a small town on the side of a coal mountain in northeast PA called Shenandoah.  Its a tiny, blue collar town. Im 100% Polish and proud of my heritage. Im proud of my small town, blue collar upbringing and I try to make sure I retain it despite living in an urban center with a white collar job. Im still a Coal Kid at heart.

I moved to Philadelphia after I graduated to move in with a girl I met in college. I told her I was going to marry her 3 weeks after we met. That was 6 years ago, and we were married last November. GivenToFly was there, he got a little lit and  danced his ass off to the sweet sounds of the 70s. Nothing gets a party movin' like classic R&B.  Perhaps I should post the pics...whatta ya think Dan?

The only thing that matches my passion for My Morning Jacket is my love of the New York Giants. The first time I watched a football game, in 1988, I saw Lawrence Taylor wreaking havoc and I knew then there was no other team for me. I dont like to sound snobby but Im a very knowledgeable football fan and a student of the history of not only the Giants but the entire NFL. Its the greatest sport in the world. I played in high school and was pretty good, good enough to play at a small college, but lost that opportunity through a combination of a moderate knee injury and some really poor decisions. I played rugby instead and had a great time doing it. While I love football, rugby is the hardest game I have ever played in my life. Its not for everybody. Thats part of the reason I love it.

I also love cooking, barbecuing to be exact. Im not talking about a gas grill, either. Real barbecue is made with time and charcoal. "Low and slow". Like any other skill its not easy and it takes practice, but Ive gotten pretty good at it. Last Thanksgiving I did a 25 lb turkey in my smoker. It took 9 hours and by the time I got done I didnt even want to look at it let alone eat it, but our guests said it was great lol.

Im also getting into photography in earnest. I have an old but good camera and Im having fun tooling around with it and exploring different parts of Philadelphia.

I also snowboard, but I havent in over a year, just not enough time to get up to the mountains living down here. For a stretch of 5 years I was lucky enough to go to either Vermont or Canada every winter. Ive been to Hunter Mtn, Mt. Snow, Killington & Pico, Sunday River, Sugarbush, Okemo, and Mont Tremblant. Im hoping to get out again this coming winter.

And, of course, I love MMJ. Ive been listening since At Dawn was suggested to me by Mugsy, the owner and proprietor of Mugsy's Records, the only decent music store in Bloomsburg (closed now, of course, with a Starbucks in its place). Ive seen the band 4 times starting in 2005 (opening for Pearl Jam, at the Electric Factory in Philly, Radio City, and 2 weeks ago in Louisville) and have tickets to 3 more shows this year (DC, Philly Festival Pier, and New Years at MSG). Every time Ive seen them GivenToFly was there too, we're kind of partners in our Jacket obsession.

And thats about it.

Hey that's awesome!  My sister set up her own autism school here in Missouri called the Center for Autism.  In fact we just had a charity golf tournament yesterday for it.  That's a tough job but she really loves it.  Those kids are amazing. If you ever need and job and want to move to Missouri (Yeah right, I know.) let me know!

This is one of my favorite stories about someone with autism.  Those sketches just really get to me.   -->

Get cha back up off the wall!

Below are ChiefOkonoko and I. We met through the music (and isn't that a fine way to meet?)  MMJ is a huge part of what brought us closer.  From what I understand this band has brought together some kick ass folks.

So....my name is Angela, I live in Lombard, IL and work in Chicago. I've been here all of my life and love this city. Chiefy works and lives in LA. We're trying to get us together but it's been tough. We both work at public universities and love our jobs, so that makes it tougher. We have a secret way of making it work -- we travel to see each other and we usually catch a show while we're at it.

First Jacket show was May 2004 - I was expecting a so-so gig. I walked out of that venue a changed woman. I could do nothing but talk about, listen to and learn about this band. They literally blew my mind and continue to do so. I got to host the Z release party in Chicago which was so damn cool. The venue, Schuba's also had Bobby Bare and Catfish Haven's CD releases that night so we were in fine company.

Since that time I've been lucky enough to see the Filmore gigs (both 2005 & 2006), a ton of Z shows and I will never stop. They just keep evolving and it seems that they evolve in a way that makes me love them more. Some bands evolve and end up leaving me cold.

Here we are at the Louisville gig 8-16-08. We met MylifeisOught there as well as Teo, Mrs. Teo, AmD and Ms. Yvon. Super, super people! Although, we have hung with Ms. Y before (she rocks), it was our first time meeting the others. Good to meet you and hope to meet more of ya as time passes.

"Whooo! I made a nasty decision
To love whoever I want just-a whenever I can"

Y'all rock! 8-)

Ok so now that I'm both drunk and passed out in pictures on this page alone, I'll introduce myself.

I'm Dan, 21 yrs old, just starting my senior year at a small college in Philadelphia. I'm majoring in psychology with a minor in criminal justice. My main area of interest is PTSD and the effects of combat on troops after they come home (increased suicide, crime, divorce rates, etc.). I'm not sure how I can get a job with that, but we'll see. I've got a great girlfriend who I've known since I was about 15 (shit... has it been that long?), and dated for the last 3 1/2 years.

I've lived in the same house in the Philly suburbs my entire life. I like it, but I'd much rather be in New Hampshire. My family has been going up there since the 70s, a little house on a lake, and I love it. Maybe someday I'll end up there.

Music is a big deal to me. Metallica was my first love back in high school, then I became a Pearl Jam follower. I heard MMJ was opening for Pearl Jam back in 2006, and I was pretty pumped since I had just gotten It Still Moves. Those 2 nights MMJ blew my mind in a way PJ really never did. Saw Jim James solo about 2 months after that, and then my first proper MMJ show in Philly that December. Since then I've been to Radio City, Louisville, and heading to DC, Philly, and New Years before the year is out.

Besides music (and of course MMJ) I also play guitar. I was in a band in high school, we weren't too bad, but we sure weren't good. I like to bike in Fairmount Park, play lacrosse, go to Phillies games, photography, brewing beer, and when I get the chance go on the occasional mountain hike in NH.

The lake I stay at is in central New Hampshire, near Plymouth & Bristol, about 40 minutes west of Lake Winnipesaukee. I haven't been up north in a few years, but I have driven up Mount Washington. I also remember taking the aerial tram up the side of Cannon Mountain and doing the rim hike there. That was amazing.

Hey Angela and Dan, great posts!

Hey Dan, I was at a wedding this weekend where the groom and all his friends and family were from Philly. The bride and groom now live in a part of the city that can't remember the name of but starts with the letter 'M', and is near a big park (maybe the one from that picture, which is awesome, btw). All the Philly guys were loving the California bridesmaids, and we all had a great time partying down on the central coast.

haven't spent much time in central--although i did go to the town Ken Burns lives in? (can't remember the name) i completely understand why you love it--i would live there if there were just more jobs in northern new hammy--(other than ski instructor or golf pro)

Yeah, thats definitely the hippest young neighborhood of the city. Certain parts of West Philadelphia are on the upswing as well, as is another neighborhood called Fishtown which is a bit north of Center City. Manayunk is nice and definitely a trendy area, incredibly expensive to live on the main street. I'll be heading up there next week after the Festival Pier show for the Red Bull SoapBox Derby. That whole week is going to be ridiculous.

As for that shot; those 18 hours were a whirlwind. We got back in Philly precisely 24 hours after we arrived to the airport for check-in. I sat on the curb trying to make sense of the last days events when I just blurted out "Holy shit, did that all really just happen?"  :D

Different species of hipsters. Northern Liberties are your stinky, "we're poor and we like it" hipsters. Manayunk are you "Im 22, make more than my parents, Im a trendsetter, and the trend is money" hipsters. Actually Manayunk is more yuppies than hipsters. Now Im just confused. Fucking vernacular...

Yeah, these two are definitely more yuppie than indie-clone-hipster. I also remember the groom telling me there were some "good dive bars up the hill", and in one, somebody offerred to sell him some "coke".  ;D

Am I still on target for the area that starts with 'M' and is near a big park?

Boo-Yahh!   :) :-*

Well, here goes:

Me -- I'm Sha (pronounced like shay), but that's a nickname.  Real name is Vachelle.  Almost everyone calls me Sha, but I respond to both.   :)  Just turned 39.  I lived in NJ for most of my life, but a new job uprooted me to Virginia about 4 years ago.

I'm fairly tall for a woman:  6'4".  Played D1 basketball for St. Bonaventure's Lady Bonnies.  I was the first black woman to play there. We were actually investigated by the NCAA for recruiting violations and I got to testify.  My testimony was taken during Senior Week, so I showed up in a Hawaiian themed outfit (complete with lei) so that afterward I could get back to the party.  Tallest woman that I ever played against was Tina Henry (I think that was her name) at Penn State.  She was 6'8.

Music:  I think the best gift that I was ever given was a transistor radio when I was 8.  I used to steal away to the basement to listen to stations that my mother would never ever listen to  :)  I think that's when the music love affair began.

I like good music.  I don't really do genres.  The only theme that I can find in what I like is that there is always a good (and pronounced) bass line and the drummer knows what he/she is doing.  Or horns -- man, I love horns.  Raised on Motown and R&B, discovered rock n roll--the rest is history.

I go to a lot of live shows.  Surprisingly, I travel home (still) for a good number of shows.  Can't beat good music with good friends in NYC!

Ahh, almost none of my friends like MMJ!

I played snare drum in the high school marching band and bassoon in the orchestra.  How big of a band nerd was I?  Out of a Summer where I did nothing but go to basketball camps, I had a 1-week hiatus to attend percussion camp at Westchester Univ.  I won the week at the camp during a band competition in Quebec.  Drum Corps rules!  8-)

I now own a couple of bass guitars:  1 hollow body 4-string and a 4-string music man sterling.  I rarely play, but am looking to fix that this year.

Beer:  My history with alcohol began with vodka and juice or tonic drinks.  I didn't drink beer because the beers that I knew didn't taste good.  I spent some time with a guy who enjoyed good beer and my eyes and tastebuds were opened to the wide world of good beer.

What else?  Oh, New Orleans.  I love it.  Went to New Orleans for the first time in '98 for the Jazz Fest.  Thought that I knew something about music.  I was so wrong.  Have been back at least once every year since then, have marched in 2 Mardi Gras parades (Krewe du Vieux and Mondo Kayo), and am hopeful that once they get the crime under control, I'll move there.

Last, I am a Steelers fan.  Have been since the 3rd grade.

Hey Sha, it's nice to meet ya! Great post! I think I saw a segment one time on St. Bonaventure...weren't they the first powerhouse in women's college basketball? There were these great photos in the story of the nuns running drills for the team!

EDIT: WHOOPS! I did my own fact checking, and it was Immaculata I was thinking of... ::)

No worries =)  Theresa Grentz played at Immaculata and they have a spectacular history.  The Bonnies claim to fame is Rob Lanier.  His nephew Bob was there when I played.

Funny nun story:  As part of the curriculum, everyone had to take 3 religion courses.  My freshman year, I chose "Women in Religion", I don't know why really.  The teacher was Sister Winifred Whelan and she began the first class by having everyone announce who they are, where they're from, and what religion they are.  Now, at 18 I had not yet chosen a religion and my parents had not forced one on me, so I didn't have an answer for her 3rd question. I began to get nervous as one kid answered that she was Catholic but not confirmed, and Sister's response was "Oh, so just just call yourself Catholic, next!"  When my turn came, I mentioned that I was a Lady Bonnie and my oh my -- Sister Wini loved me.  Turns out she was as feminist as a nun could be and thought that it was fantastic that I was there to play a sport.  I think she may have passed on, but she was great!

Great post Sha!   Cool life story.  D1 hoops!  Impressive!   I love people who love music, so I LOVE you!   I also became a Steeler fan about 2nd or 3rd grade.  I live in St. Louis, and I hated the Cardinals.  I became a huge Rams fan when they moved here but I still root for the Steelers in the AFC.   This whole Warner/Cardinals/Steeler thing is kind of strange for me.   I have rooted for Warner to succeed up until this point, even though I hate the Cardinals and Bidwell, but that will stop at the Super Bowl, when the Steelers will be searching for their first super bowl ring (For the "other" hand that is!  Boo Ya!)

(I would like to play two guard in our all MMJ Fan basetball team.)

Yay! Thank you. I've been "around" here a little while and I GET all the awesomeness that is going down here. I couldn't deny myself any longer so I decided to join you. I've got the love, knowledge and some purty good experience. I can't wait to share those things here with all of you.

That seems to be the thing with MMJ, you can't deny it once you get to the tipping point!  I, like you, read (I don't like how 'lurk' sounds) the goings on here for a while before I joined in.  Anyway, welcome again!

QuoteWell, here goes:

I don't really do genre's.

Nova,  can you dunk  ?   What's your take on that high school B-ball game that ended up with a final score of 100-0.  I think that coach should of sat his starters in the second half.  What say you ?

;D

I've been this tall since I was 13 and never really had to jump.  So dunking was a skill that I never really acquired.  I could get rim with both hands, and could dunk small balls, but never did dunk a regulation ball on a regulation hoop.

My initial reaction to that 100-0 story was not good, but kind of mild.  Then I read that the winning coach kept a full court press on until they reached 100.  I am totally disgusted by that guy -- he was coaching for a Christian school of all things!  Some values.  I would have fired him as soon as I heard the details.  There's no victory or honor in 100-0.

QuoteGreat post Sha!

Thanks BH! I can feel the love.  :)  I've got family in MO...the last time I was out that way it was for a BBQ tour.  Nothing but BBQ for 4 days.  It was glorious, but I ate nothing but veggies for about a month afterwards.

Alright, you got 2, I'm a 5...Penny's a 1 or 2, I'm guessing.  So, is there a power forward in the house?   ;D

GO STEELERS!!

My name is Janet, I am 42 years old and live in northern California.  I have three passions - my family, music and cooking.

I am married and have three dogs.  My husband and kids, I mean dogs, are the light of my life.  I truly wish everyone the happiness that I enjoy.

I have always loved music.  Always.  I still remember being six and asking my mom to take me to the store to buy the 45 of Jim Croce's "Time in a Bottle" with the money I had saved...and beggingbeggingbegging her to let me go to my first concert at 15 (Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers).

Then, as now, all of my discretionary funds go towards music. I really wish I had kept track of all of the concerts I've seen....

My love (obsession?) with music really kicked into high gear the first time I heard Pearl Jam.  I still don't know why - the music just did (and still does) "speak" to me.  The first time I saw them live was in 1991 - and I actually had a physical reaction.  It was a sort of butterflies in the stomach type of nervous energy that I had never experienced.  And that feeling, on the day of a PJ show, continues.   :)

As I'm sure I've posted previously, I came across MMJ because of PJ.   I picked up Z when I found out MMJ was opening for  PJ.  I'm not sure why that I did because normally PJ's opening bands don't do it for me ('cept for KOL! -but I found them when they opened for Bob Dylan) .  After hearing Z, I was hooked.  I was grateful when PJ's album finally came out as I was beginning to think the amount of times I listened to Z was becoming unhealthy,  They just had (have) a sound that I had not heard before...

I've been a full on MMJ obsessive ever since - although it has definitely gotten worse in the last 2 years.  In 2008 I actually did not see any PJ shows (but did catch the EV show in Santa Cruz) as all of my concert dollars went to MMJ.  I don't regret a thing.

As for cooking, I love it.  I'd do it professionally if I could.

Thanks for reading my story.

i played at Baldwin Wallace College (LOL) small private school in Cleveland, Ohio; the only time you hear of it is when they mention that Jim Tressel (OSU coach) went there and his father (Lee Tressel) coached there for years. Also, the town used to be where the Browns were stationed. I did bball, softball and cross country. and yes, Point Guard. Pistol Pete and Larry Bird are my heroes LOL...

Alright, it's time I do this...

My name's Kaley.  I'm 22 years young.  And yes, I'm a guy.  Didn't really have a choice in my name, but I'm actually quite fond of it now.  I'm an only child, raised by a single parent.  Always lived in Western Canada -- Saskatoon now, spent most of my life in small town Saskatchewan, aside from a few years in Manitoba.  I work at an independent coffee shop and am just starting work on an English degree.  In the past few years I've been bitten by the travel bug.

Let's see...My favourite musician (and person) is Tom Waits.  Last year I saved up and went to six shows on his 'Glitter and Doom' tour.  It was the greatest two weeks of my life.  Met some incredible people (two of whom who are on this board) and discovered New Orleans (I've made a promise to myself to live there some day).  My musical loves are, among many others: MMJ, Big Star, Bob Dylan, Pavement, Neil Young, The Smiths, Leonard Cohen, The Hold Steady, Joni Mitchell, Constantines, Elvis Costello, Elliott Smith, The Beatles, and Gram Parsons.  Annie Hall is my favourite film.  Followed closely by Before Sunrise/Sunset, This Is Spinal Tap, The Last Waltz, Bottle Rocket and The Big Lebowski.  Arrested Development, The Office (BBC), and The Wire are my favourite television shows.  My favourite novels are This Side of Paradise, Franny and Zooey, and probably Jitterbug Perfume.

I normally have a shitty haircut, and am currently cultivating an even shittier mustache/goatee combination (all of which I'm strangely proud of).  I miss my Grandfather and my cat Robo.  There's only a few people I'd consider my best friends, and we're scattered throughout this world.  Sometimes I think the distance keeps us closer.  I also think I let the 'right one' get away, but I've resigned myself to accepting that, for now.  I haven't eaten red meat in quite some time, and have been a full-fledged vegetarian for nearly two years.  Been working on cutting out all animal products from my diet as of late.  I love many different beers and basically any red wine.  I can also handle tequila shots like nobody's business.  Vodka, however, is the chink in my armour.

Lately I've been working on making my world a smaller place.  Figuratively, of course.  I've abandoned my car, discontinued my cell phone, and have embraced the telephone call and handwritten letter.  I guess I just like to keep myself distanced from things.  I've also concluded that this place is the best corner of the internet.  I have no idea what I'm going to do come fall, but I'd like to learn French and/or Spanish before then.

I'm shy and polite, and like private messages and toasted peanut butter and banana sandwiches.

These are the two favourite pictures of myself:

25 years old, entering my 7th year at university in Leiden, but I live in Rotterdam in the Netherlands. I'm studying history and I've got a part time job in a recordstore, which is pretty cool. I've got no idea of what I want to become when I've finished my studies. I definately do not want to teach, that's the only thing I do know...
At this moment most of my activities are as follows:
Reading
Working
Listening to music
Writing papers
Drinking beer (though never when I'm alone)
Sports

And my birthday is on the 31st of december.

my turn.
I'm Meg, that's my whole [first] name, no more no less. I'm 22, and live in Las Cruces, NM, where I've been my whole life. I was born in my parent's house, in the bedroom I grew up in. Their house is where i wans to live for the rest of my life. unfortunately i don't live with them now because i wanted to have my own cat, and if he got around their two female cats, i'm sure they would all kill each other because they're all really messed up in the head, like their owners.
Las Cruces is gorgeous, the people are great, I love it here, but I have to move on soon. I will be graduating with my BFA in painting in May, and then I will start looking around for jobs/schools in other places. I am not limited to staying in the states.... i have ideas of looking into europe (mainly france, italy, germany, spain, or england), south america (mainly brazil, colombia or costa rica)  and canada. but i try not to limit myself. if anyone knows of some cool places to go, please let me know, i would greatly appreciate it.
when not painting (oil is my fave, but i also experiment with watercolor and acrylic) or working at an Italian restaurant, i also work on sculptures, writing, reading, playing drums and piano, singing (I sing more than any other musical thing i do) and whistling, hiking, being quiet, watching the weather (not the TV kind), meditation, and trying to be a hermit in a town where most people know my name/face.

QuoteSteve's my name.

Here's a pic of me from last year: (http://i117.photobucket.com/albums/o62/graybaka/stevepic1.gif)

no you're not the youngest I'm 14 although I'm kinda new to the forum I've been a jacket follower since as long as i can remember!!

Lately I've been working on making my world a smaller place.  Figuratively, of course.  I've abandoned my car, discontinued my cell phone, and have embraced the telephone call and handwritten letter.  I guess I just like to keep myself distanced from things.

:)

Have you read Into the Wild?

I've not.  Been meaning to read the novel (then watch the film) after reading quite a few recommendations on here.

Stop what you're doing and pick up a copy.  It'll take you about 3 hours to read and then you'll read it again.  You seem to be in the right state of being to appreciate it fully.  It's a real story too, by the way.

I also like the movie alot, but it is about something different than the book.  I find the movie to be about family and the book to be about self.  Just my bullshitty 2 cents.

Hello,

My name is Leon and I like big butts and I can not lie
You other brothers can't deny
That when a girl walks in with an itty bitty waist
And a round thing in your face
You get sprung
Wanna pull up tough
Cuz you notice that butt was stuffed
Deep in the jeans she's wearing
I'm hooked and I can't stop staring
Oh, baby I wanna get with ya
And take your picture
My homeboys tried to warn me
But that butt you got
Make Me so horney
Ooh, rump of smooth skin
You say you wanna get in my benz
Well use me use me cuz you aint that average groupy

I've seen them dancin'
To hell with romancin'
She's Sweat,Wet, got it goin like a turbo vette

I'm tired of magazines
Saying flat butts are the thing
Take the average black man and ask him that
She gotta pack much back

So Fellas (yeah) Fellas(yeah)
Has your girlfriend got the butt (hell yeah)
Well shake it, shake it, shake it, shake it, shake that healthy butt
Baby got back

You Sir, are a f u n n y guy! Seriously!!  :)

Here's Bbill, trying to get to know you & some of the other entertaining characters who have joined recently but instead of showing him some respect & answering his question seriously, you chose to make yet another hilarious joke!! Fucking classic!!!

Here's a thought, instead of posting a real photo of yourself in the 'members pic' thread like all of the genuine people here, why not just use the the internet to find another hilarious picture like you did in the 'our homes' thread? That would be a fucking classic!!!
& whilst you're at it, why not try real hard to find a hilarious pic that shows everyone just how fucking hilarious you are & at the same time is homophobic or degrading to women? That would be fucking hilarious!!!

Because all of your posts are fucking hilarious, aren't they?

Good for you man, good for you  [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

Fair comment though.

If, for whatever reason, a person wishes to remain anonymous then that's their prerogative but if that's the case then maybe they should stay away from threads like 'our homes' where people who have nothing to hide are sharing pictures of their homes and environments etc with other people who are genuinely interested.
If people just wish to piss about & have a 'laugh' talking about 'pole smokers' & posting pictures of T&A etc etc all well & good (for them) but maybe they shouldn't disrespect other people's threads if they have no intention of contributing anything relevant?

Who the fuck is Freddy Mercury?!

If the 2 options were Jim James & Freddie Mercury then I'd have to go with the latter, no contest. Don't get me wrong, I love Jim & all that but Freddie was an incredible vocalist/performer/frontman, quite possibly the G.O.A.T.

Maybe I'll play my Live at Wembley Stadium DVD later...still no idea who Freddy Mercury is though.

Leon - although DB's recent posts make him seem very Tracy-like, he isnt. He's good people, so no need to give him a hard time all the time. He does have a point though. We got plenty of threads going to be stupid in, no need to muck up ones like this one.

Not to hard to figure out:

This:

I was born in a desert, raised in a lion's den
I was born in a desert, raised in a lion's den
And my number one occupation is stealing women from their men
Well I'm a wanted man in Texas, busted jail and I'm gone for good
Well I'm a wanted man in Texas, busted jail and I'm gone for good
Well the sheriff couldn't catch me
But his little girl sure wished she would
Yes and the doctor call me crazy, some says I am some says I ain't
Yes and the doctor call me crazy, some says I am some says I ain't
The preacher man call me a sinner, but his little girl call me a saint!
Well a couple of shots of whiskey, women round here start lookin' good!
Well a couple of shots of whiskey, women round here start lookin' good!
Couple more shots of whiskey, I'm goin' back to Minglewood!
It's T for Texas, yes and it's T for Timbucktwo!
It's T for Texas, yes and it's T for Timbucktwo!
Yes and it's T for [San Francisco - or wherever!]
Where the little girls know what to do!

Or that:

I was born in a desert, raised in a lion's den
I was born in a desert, raised in a lion's den
And my number one occupation is stealing women from their men

If you're ever in Memphis, better stop by Minglewood
If you're ever in Memphis, better stop by Minglewood
Well take a walk down town, the women sure look good

If you can't believe me, don't make it hard to believe in you!
If you can't believe me, don't make it hard to believe in you!
'Cause we all need each other, well you know it's true!

cheers

actually, the reason people are leaving the board is b/c people like you headdy. We've been here a while, we know the territory. You're a noob who obviously spends every moment of the day here. You and your junior high clan have really cheapened the experience here for a lot of people. We have lost a lot of core members lately b/c of the goon squad.

Half the posts here are bullshit. You can't start a thread about anything without the goon squad going junior high lunch room.

Of course, you can post whatever you want, I'm just telling you how it is. This meassge board has taken a nose dive in the past year; I've been here for 6, you'll have to trust me.

dragonboy doesn't need you to say he is "good people" to your lunch buddy leon; dragon has the same issues I have with you silly people. We used to have a pretty tight group of fans here. I've known dragon for 5 years, been up and down the block. You don't know shit so don't act like anything other than a noob with 10+ posts a day.

It's a shame b/c this message board used to be a very cool place; I guess that's what happens when the boys hit it big. I told leon I'd leave him alone since he asked twice. And so the next day he is "giving me shit" b/c I won't respond. Silly ass bullshit kids just posting silly ass bullshit. It's not original or clever or funny or intelligent. It gets old.

Take it or leave it, it is what it is. I can ignore you silly people from now on (and I will) but you disrespect everyone here when you go ape shit on every thread. It's not all about you. Show some class (for once).

So post away like a good troll. Just ask yourself one question: WWJJD?

I didnt realize every single post here had to have some insight or be serious.

Since Ive been here, which is about a year, I havent noticed too many people if any who were around a lot when I first joined and havent been around much since Ive been here. I like to joke around and realize I post plenty of stuff that isnt serious, but this is the "off-topic" forum, and that is hardly all I post. The only posts or threads I post in that you seem to respond to only seem to be these ones, so maybe you just dont read everything.  Just because you personally seem to have a problem with me, doesnt mean other people do.

I dont know who my "Jr high clan" is. I havent told anyone to join this site or anything. People join because they want to, and post what they want. I have no control or impact on this.

I said what I said about DB because its nice to have him around. I agree, Im sure he doesnt need me to say that.

And for as long as my "noob" ass has been here, Id say you've started more pointless threads than anyone here. Maybe you dont realize it either, but you're pretty much a goon squad in 1 person, and more often than not, you do nothing but egg on this trolling that you say you dislike.

Look in the mirror, man.

fuuuuuuuuuuuuuck. quit it. this is the exact opposite of what i started this thread for and now you and the spam squad have more than officially derailed it with your meandering bullshit. so quit it. seriously. settle your embitterments via PM and get this over with so we can have our favorite side of Tracy back. He's been here a year longer than I have and I wouldn't have driven to Cincinnati on my 18th birthday to see the Jacket play if he weren't one of my favorite people. I've learned a lot by listening to what he's had to say, and *gasp* you could probably actually do the same. He's not an idiot. He's been through the kind of things people have to deal with in order to come out with wisdom on the other side, and he's not content to just leave it there, but to keep growing. If bickering with teenagers on a message board sounds like a pretty sad way to spend an evening, then quit propagating this bullshit and let's get on with things. Seriously. I'm ready to not see Tracy's annoyed side, which you have been oh-so-excellent at provoking almost daily.

Rant over.

Moral of story: cut it the hell out.

 ;D

I dislike how some of this stuff pans out too, but Tracy responding to my posts and snowballing stuff isnt my fault. And some more recent members seem to actually be causing more of a ruckus around here than me ( :o).

I hardly think Tracy is an idiot and think he makes plenty of positive contributions round here, but he actually seems to provoke me more than the other way around. Maybe you have some blinders on as far as that goes though (because, you know, you're boys, but he's the one responding to my posts and stirring the cauldron). I dont try to cause trouble, he just seems to make it end up that way.

(And the thread will hardly end up being derailed)

The direction this thread has taken almost makes me cry.  I used to love this stop on the information highway, now I just pop in to use the washroom and pick up a bag of pistachios while en route to somewhere else.

Some days all I long for is a post from Susan, which is guaranteed to be littered with kindness.

Hey Folks!

I guess I've posted a photo here and there as well as parts of my bio but I thought I'd say hey.  Nothing clever here

My name is Rob.  I was born in Tokyo as an Indian citizen.  My father is from India and my mother from Japan.  I moved to the states as an infant and lived in Los Angeles for ten years.  Japanese is my first language and I still speak it with my family.  My family had limited means in LA and as such, I spent most of my time skateboarding and playing bball.  Luckily, my folks met an older couple that had Lakers' season tickets and so when a crappy team was in town, they were kind enough to give their tix to us.  As a result, I grew up a huge Lakers fan and had the fortune of meeting many of the 80's Lakers over the years including Worthy, Magic and Kareem.  I specifically remember meeting Chuck Nevitt (all 7 foot 5 of him) when I was a 4 foot tall kid.  WOW!  Because of Magic, 32 is still my lucky number. :)

I moved to suburban Long Island when I was 10 and remained until I graduated high school.  Ahh those were the formative years where I really got into music among other things.  I played violin for a few years than the trombone for 4 years before I ditched it to play bass.  In hindsight I probably should have stuck with the trombone because that was the only instrument I ever played that I actually had some chops. ;D  I always thought my trombone teacher was odd as he would always pat be on the ass if I played well and congratulated me.  Well, he was arrested 5 years later for inappropriate contact with a 12 year old student.  Boy was I naive...  I was naturalized as an American citizen after I was nearly deported to India after returning from an exhcange program in Germany when I was 14.  Ha, my parents let me go with a green card that expired while I was overseas.  Immigration officials were not kind to me >:(
Gee, graduates of note from my high school.  The King of Queens and Todd Sauerbrun ;D

I then attended the University of Illinois where I had a blast and discovered my strong passion for disc golf.  After school, I moved to Maryland for a year of Americorps service before working as an unlicensed social worker in various capacities for both public and non profit entities.

I returned to school in Baltimore and just graduated a year ago with the hopes of beginning a new life as a career Public Defender.

After giving up my music playing, cooking took its place as my creative outlet and I couldn't be happier anywhere than in the kitchen making something.  I'm not a recipe type of guy ;)

I live to travel and feel very fortunate to have visited over 20 countries and 44 states I believe.  I promise I'll visit Texas, Alabama, Mississippi, Arkansas, Maine and Alaska before I die.

My mom rocks.

It's always good because life is too short to be angry...

Thx for hearing me out and if I'm obnoxious on the forum (most of the time) it's because I may have been beveraging a bit. :) :) :)

Well, after BrindgaRuckus started getting this thread back to topic (good read btw), I thought I'd help a little with that.

My name is Lukas and I'm currently 20 years old. I live in Vienna, where I study law and philosophy, and in Linz, where I spent the first 18 years of my life and where my parents still live. (Gonna post some photos of our garden later on) I got one older brother, two younger sisters and one dog, named Felix. (pic is also coming later)
Didn't really have much of an exciting youth, kindergarden followed by school and now university, not much to tell here.
I like to play soccer and golf, and, when I was younger, I was quite good at basketball, but probably only because I'm tall.
I love sleeping, especially if I don't dream about things that are currently happening in real life (that happens a lot to me, if I fall asleep while thinking about stuff going on in my life, I hate that)
Also, I used to play computer a lot when I was younger, everything from Counterstrike to Warcraft 3 and World of Warcraft (I know ^^).
Nowadays, I hardly ever play games, and if I do, only Battlefield.
When I'm not at the university, studying, sleeping or doing random stuff on the internet (facebook and this board mostly), I spend almost all my time reading.
I love books, especially the ones by russian writers like Tolstoy, Dostoevsky and french ones, i.e. Flaubert, Camus, Proust, Stendhal, Balzac, Baudelaire (even though I usually don't care about poems).

Another important part would be music, which I listen to nearly all the time when I am not sleeping or at the university. Favourite band nowadays would be Pearl Jam, but I have developed the theory that with every bigger girl crush I have, there comes a new favourite band. So far I've had Red Hot Chili Peppers (Valerie, which happened to be my first Girlfriend), Nirvana (Lisa the first), Metallica (Lisa the second) and Pearl Jam. I have since completely stopped listening to RHCP, not because of the girl but because of the "Can't stand it anymore" factor. Nirvana and Metallica are still frequently listened.

I like to travel a lot, especially to Paris, which is by far my favourite city I've visited yet (I used to spend months there when I was a little bit younger). Countrywise, I'd also stick to france, I have been there a lot and was never disappointed. People are great, food is great, landscape is fantastic. (I remember one particular holiday, I think I was about 14 years old, where we went to some hotel at the beach for the first week, where I had some kind of holiday crush on a girl and I was really sad when we left after that week. So we travelled on to some old, beautiful house where we spent the following week. It was made of those special stones (going to look for a similar one later), was placed on a hill where you could see very far and there was no other house anywhere near (20 minutes by car to the next small village). I remember sitting on the small stone wall right in front of the house, literally watching the day passing by, sunrise to sunset (you would have been amazed Dragonboy, way more beautiful than Salzburg :D ). I think, back then, I had the best time of my life so far.)

Also, I'm not really what you would call a "people person". Others tend to annoy me pretty fast, but of course there are a few exceptions (there you go LoveDog, here's why he is still my best friend :) )
Some people say I'm kind of a smartass, but I don't think so  ;).

That's it so far, hope you enjoy the reading

Also, I recently discover how cute curly hair is. There's this girl in my criminal law class, she got such beautiful brown curly hair, everytime I see her I'm mesmerized by those curls.

Quoteactually, the reason people are leaving the board is b/c people like you headdy.

Word.
