Title: Questions and Answers Thread
Post by: .Walt on Jun 12, 2009, 02:01 PM
You've got questions, we may have answers...I hope.

Question: Does anyone remember the name of a record label someone posted a while back. I think it was from the northwest somewhere (Seattle?). The only thing I can remember is Sean Murph saying something about a hearing aide test, but in a good way. I think it ended in a Y. I looked in past pages, but it only goes back so far. I really enjoyed the music.

Thanks for the help.

I guess that's just one of those things. Like not closing your eyes when you sneeze. Or how many licks does it take to get to the center of a Toosie Roll Pop? The world will never know.

Sure, why not?

I really hope Sean Murph is out there, because he and the original poster are probably my only two hopes on getting my question answered.

See, I thought you weren't a 100% serious, my bad. And yes, that's what this thread for. I just said the Toosie Roll bit, because I figure I'd save people the time on not taking it serious.

Seriously, I bet there is some scientific reasoning behind it, like poo hits your prostate and it makes you pee. But then why do women also pee when they poo if they dont have prostates?!

Is there a doctor in the house tonight?

Race is Oct 11. So far so great on the running. Knees are feeling good. Back is good. Feet are blistering a little but something was up with the shoes but that's fixed. Plus a coating of Vaseline always helps with that. Thankfully I only have to do 6 tomorrow. The rest of my Saturdays I will be dealing with much longer runs until then.

God made it that way just so guys could pee standing up.

Question.  What are the backup singers chanting at the end of Secret Meeting by The National.  When I heard them do it live the lead singer joined in with the chanting (he doesn't on the record) and I thought his mic was going to melt.

Way wrong their Cap'n.  ;)

Hey Walt- I'm almost exclusivly an Avia guy. Their shoes are very breathable, light, and they always have a lot in wide shoes. Being in the shallow end of the Koehler gene pool, my flat, wide feet can appreciate a nice wide shoe.

I didnt even know Avia's existed still  ;D

Im no fan of the Shox myself, I just thought runners liked them.

Im strictly Air Max when it comes to Nike.

It is virtually impossible to coexist as a Nike Guy or an Asics Guy.  Seriously.  Nike's are made for people with zero feet.  Or if it's a rare sunday and, if they actually have zero feet, they are VERY small - with no arch.)

(I will divulge here that I am an Asics/Addidas Girl ;))

So its that obvious Im not a runner?!  ;D

I dont buy shoes very often, but my "walking" athletic shoes are Nike Air 360 or something like that. Theyre pretty comfy. I kind of fit into your generalization - my feet have no arch. I wear gel pads in most shoes I wear. My feet arent small though, I wear a 12-13 depending on the brand.

I did have a pair of Adidas running shoes 5-6 years ago that were pretty nice as well though.
Title: Re: Questions and Answers Thread
Post by: .Walt on Jul 08, 2009, 06:16 PM
When I first started getting in shape I just wore plain Nike tennis shoes. My knees and feet started to hurt. My bro who is into fitness made it clear that I needed a good pair of shoes, even if all I was doing at the time was walking. So I went with the New Balance 1123's, because I needed the motion control. I wore those out, and I could tell that my step wasn't bad anymore. So this time around I went with the NB 587's (a little less expensive!).

Yespa (nice name switch btw), I'm surprised that Adidas is a good fit, but Nike wasn't. I guess I've only had two pairs of regular Adidas, and they've been very snug each time. Looks like we all are in the same wide feet boat! Avia? I'll have to check them out next time around. I wouldn't say I'm a New Balance loyalist. I had a pair of Saucony's before, and they were the most comfortable running shoes I've ever had, so I'm always looking for the most comfy shoes.

Headdy, we all know Nike sucks for running shoes, at least that's what I've been told.

I aims to please!

Check out Kohl's. They usually carry a very wide selection of Avia. They will have both regular and Wides and their Wides are clearly marked. They are reasonably priced also.

Yes, Nike sucks. I've never been a Nike fan. Just over priced crap.

i never run in anything but asics...but you're right avia and even BROOKS make decent running shoes. the WORST running shoes you can get are Nike or Addidas. they are grounded in the cross-training modes...especially if you're running distance..or more than a few miles. new balance are okay if you have arches but will kill you if you don't. Just my .02!

when will Dippin Dots no longer be the "ice cream of the future" and just be ice cream?

I mean, its been around for a decade or maybe longer, so when is regular ice cream going to be kicked to the curb like VHS tapes and cassettes and Dippin Dots will be what you find in the freezer aisle?

and for the record, I have never had Dippin Dots before.

true/funny story: one time i tried to eat dippin dots while stoned. i noticed that dippin dots were touted as "the ice cream of the future," and then i thought about the future (in that 1950's, Disney, Tomorrowland sense) for about 30 minutes... and i realized my dippin dots had melted.

I got to tour the Dippin' Dots factory because we used to sell them some stuff.  I learned that the magic behind the dippin' dot is an invention a guy came up with that basically drops a drip of ice cream thru a super cooled tunnel and by the time it lands at the bottom, it's frozen.   Also the reason they will never be the future of ice cream is that they have to be stored at a temperature below normal grocery store freezers.  That's why you only see them at special events in special freezer carts.  The cost is hard to justify as well if it's not "vending" pricing.

The dude that invented dippin dots went to SIU. Also, you have to eat them with a plastic spoon b/c they're so cold you cant eat them w/ silverware. You'd end up in a situation like the kid in A Christmas Story.
Also, Meg I think we should be friends and hang out  ;D

Since you knew the answer to this, do you know anything about this Making Work Pay Tax Credit? Do I need to fill out another additional form?

If I apply for these two credits, is it still alright just to fill out a 1040EZ, or would I need to do one of the other 1040's?? Id have to check my W-2 again, but I think I made less than 10K last year. Also, I dont still currently work for the place, so I dont know if that has any effect on the Making Work Pay Tax Credit

A proper jumbo lump cake requires NO CONDIMENTS.  If it does....it's not a crab cake.  If your going cute fancy restaurant version of a crab cake, you'll get an assortment of sauces but out here, the buttery sweet flavor of jumbo lump blue crab would be masked by any sauce and is unnecessary.

Ruckus - I agree. These are Phillips' seafood frozen crab cakes. Didnt end up eating them yet. Not sure where they rank in quality, but sauce will likely be used.

i got summonsed for jury duty  :-\.  it was sent to my parents' address (they put it w/ my xmas gifts - THANKS SANTA!!!) which i haven't lived at for quite some time.  now, i have a medical excuse which will hopefully get me out of it (i know, i know... it's my civic duty, but, c'mon - who WANTS to do it?) but i have a couple questions, for serious:

there is a "change of name/address" section.  so, if i just don't send it back - how would they know i actually rec'd the summons?  you don't have to sign for it or anything.  in other words, is this something that could easily have been "lost in the mail" w/out running the risk of these fines & punishments they threaten to impose for not responding?

there's a questionnaire (you) are supposed to complete which asks for things like home & work phone #'s, name of employer, occupation etc. & frankly - i think that's none of their business.  i mean, i work on the books & pay my taxes etc. so it's all on record somewhere i suppose.  but why would the jury management office need this info?  (i'm not comfortable with that & am tempted to write "N.O.Y.B.". tho, i prob wouldn't be doing myself any favors by being a smartass, would i?  that one's rhetorical.)

why aren't these things sent w/ postage paid return envelopes - wtf?  fine.  maybe this one counts more as a gripe than a question.

You can postpone the date.  I did that about 5 years ago and nothing ever came of it.  Then about two years ago I was summoned again and when I called the night before to check to see if I still had to go in I didn't have to.  So, you may not need to go anyway.

Don't have any answers to your other questions, but I highly suggest not printing NOYB on your form.  Just sayin.  :)

Isn't Haldon a lawyer?  Maybe he can shed some light on this although the jury system in FL might be different than NJ.

Question.  What are the backup singers chanting at the end of Secret Meeting by The National.  When I heard them do it live the lead singer joined in with the chanting (he doesn't on the record) and I thought his mic was going to melt.

i think it's something like, "don't trump the ace and fold it," but i'm not 100% sure

Isn't Haldon 63% of the forum a lawyer?  Maybe he can shed some light on this although the jury system in FL might be different than NJ.

fixed*
I'm not on here enough to know that.  Just knew that from T5.  Thanks for the correction lol.

I'm not a lawyer (yet...well, technically, I am but I'm unlicensed, which is the best kind of licensed)

But since you posted here, and the forum is technically open to google searches probably, you sort of just went on the record admitting you go it.

ya know, i wondered about that.  haha.  it was more of a hypothetical question i suppose.  i sent the thing back & i guess they'll notify me if my medical excuse was accepted.  just curious as to how they would know for sure if someone got the summons or not since there is that change of address section and all.

thanks!

and lil sis - i remembered about possibly being able to postpone.  i'd done it way back when i was going to school up @ castleton.  fingers crossed i don't have to do this - i'd be the worst person on a jury  ;D

Alright. Someone explain to me why the fuck I cant direct link youtube or video clips in a post here? I know it isnt a board problem because plenty of members are linking vids as usual. Is it because I use google chrome? Once there was the original forum switch, all you had to do was copy and paste the link in your post and the video would pop up in your post. Now, I cant do that or even hit the "insert hyperlink" button to do that. Whats the deal?

When I try to post vids, it just shows a link like this:

I hit the share button on Youtube and then I copy the link that pops up. I just paste that into the box and it works. I don't have to hit any buttons.

This video raises more questions than answers. I wonder if if that was a Guide Horse (http://www.guidehorse.org/)?

I shake my monster after each pee. I hate the dribble on my boxers. What does that have to do with linking vids?
