was the best group of the '90s (& even those of you who don't - you fools!) --- pitchfork.tv is showing Slow Century for one week only. I've never been able to wrangle enough bones to pick up that fancy DVD set, so there goes my evening.

Maybe you missed penny and I's mini-discussion in the draft thread yesterday, but we both kind of agreed Malkmus' solo stuff >/= Pavement
I love Crooked Rain Crooked Rain, but after that....
Cut the shit & start watching this; it's great.
Yours truly,
Kaley
No shit...I only speak da truf
Ill try to watch it though..However, every time I try to do/find something on pitchfork, it never works.
They must have been informed that I think their CD reviewing blows

I chose to ignore your collective lunacy. ;)
Face the Truth is excellent (and my favourite SM album), but I'd put it behind CRCR, S&E, WZ & BtC. It's about on par with TT. Glad Janet Weiss is in the Jicks, but RET didn't do very much for me.
Good day sir!
(I need some back-up, where the hell is Jenny & Brian?)
"I think I was smoking a lot of grass back then, but to me they sounded like hits."
;D
I wasnt saying that because I dont like those other records per se, I personally just enjoy Pig Lib more than every Pavement album outside of CRCR (whick I like, I like a lot...1 of those perfect albums)
I probably havent even listened to Face the Truth enough to give it a verdict (and I just reread your post..I coulda swore you changed SM's best from Pig Lib to FTT >:()
I shall revisit the other Pavement albums because I honestly dont listen to them all that much, because like I said, when I do its either CRCR or Pig Lib :)
Alright, I hear you & will let things slide. Not going to lie, it took me a long time to really fall in love with Pavement, so glad I did.
You caught me! I always get Face the Truth & Pig Lib confused until I pull out my albums & look at the cover. Pig Lib's my second favourite SM album, probably tied with the S/T.
Man, they looked like they would've been a blast to see live. :'(

Really? Real Emotional Trash is way up there for me... Top 5 of this year, for sure. I did however, see SM & The Jicks on this tour and it wasnt that great. OK, but not great.
Wowie Zowie is really awesome, as attested by other forum members.

Mr. True coming through in the clutch! That record's so scattered & so amazing.
[smiley=thumbup.gif]
C'mon Jenny & Brian, I can't do this alone!

I like when a band takes a chance like this, and it works. I think they were heavily dosed, too. It took awhile to get into due to how many tracks there are but it was worth it.
i love pavement...(but you're right capn-i love SM even more---)
i agree about the label (one of) the best bands of the 90s
i'll def check this out
WOOOOWWWWWEEEE ZOOOOOWWWWWWEEEEEEEEE

QuoteAHHHH PAVEMENT RULES SO HARDDDDD
did you watch 'slow century' yet jenny? if not, i think it's still online for a few more days. i almost cried a few times, especially when they're playing their last three songs (together TOGETHER).
i own that shit m-er f-er!

I'd go so far as to say solo Malkmus is straight up > Pavement, none of this >/= noize... ;)
Thanks for posting that '92 boot, Million. I love Aquarium Drunkard :)
I watched this last night. I would have liked some speculation as to why they broke up but other than that, it was great. I loved the concert footage. I've got to get the DVD so I can see all the bonus performances.
wait wait wait
i disagree.
i disagree.
wait i think - i mean the sign eats the better one right? becasue it's a hungry duck? so it eats the better one?
in any case, pavement (is better than sign) solo malkmus in my opinion. fuckin' wowee zowee? crooked rain? SLANTED AND ENCHANTED?
i think we can call agree terror twilight is bullshit and brighten the corners isn't great, but really? i mean pig lib is better than both TT adn BTC, but i think BTC is better than BOTH face the truth and real emotional trash.
either way, i'm not dissin' no one, malkmus rulez totally hard and pavement as well. just sayin' what i'm sayin'.

I didnt mean to confuse people with mathematical signs that some people havent had in class yet
my bad ;)
i'm just messin' around homie. i know what that duck is hungry for.

Its hungry for some Duck Hunt!! NES Style

but in all seriousness, i'm going to say pavement > malkmus solo, even though malkmus (by himself, as a person) is great; unless we are talking about terror twilight vs. pig lib or s/t malkmus. then it's obvious.
maybe this is why math terms aren't used in comparing music.
Pavement is better than his solo stuff...WAY better. One of the best bands ever.
i really can't believe how anyone can think sm's solo stuff is better than pavement. lunacy.
let's talk about how great that first preston school of industry album is...

I agree saying his stuff is better than Pavement to me is like saying McCartneys solo stuff is better than the Beatles.
btw if anyone wants a great Pavement show go to www.acquariumdrunkard.com there is show up for download from the 92' tour.

Everyone knows its an alligator, not a duck!
Solo Malkmus > Pavement.
You can't argue with facts, gentlemen. ;D
Here is another fact: it is super easy to lure dudes in by telling them you are into Pavement. Dudes dig chicks who dig Pavement.

Or pacman. Believe it or not, the kids do still know who pacman is. and not the dude who plays for the cowboys.
