It's just about here, and I'm starting to ready a mixtape.
My favourite would have to be Fairytale of New York by the Pogues. I tend to listen to that song on repeat a lot in December.
Too many to mention!!!
I love Christmas music & have heaps of CDs but it's a tiny bit early for me.
Expect me to haunt this thread like Jacob Marley again & again in the up-coming weeks :)
Christmas literally is "Xmas Time Is Here Again" from the MMJ xmas album. i can't have Christmas and not have that song anymore.
I've gotta go with Nat King Cole's "The Christmas Song".
It rocks. I mean, does anything say Christmas more than that song?
Christmas (baby please come home)--especially the great version by U2
uh, "xmas curtain"?
YES! Xmas Curtain it is for me, plus Xmas Time Is Here Again obviously!
Quoteuh, "xmas curtain"?
Yes and that too John--thanks for the reality slap :)
Oh Chanukah, Oh Chanukah, come light the Menorah,
Let's have a party, we'll all dance the hora.
Gather round the table, we'll give you a treat.
S'vivon to play with, Latkes to eat.
And while we are playing,
The candles are burning low.
One for each night, they shed a sweet light,
To remind us of days long ago;

To remind us of days long ago;
QuoteI've gotta go with Nat King Cole's "The Christmas Song".

agreed.
other favorites include o holy night and carol of the bells.
it's almost time to break out the xmas music. i'm looking forward to it.
for sheeeeer goosebumps, got to go with Angels We Have Heard on High.
however, at work I have been listeining to the Vince Guaraldi's Charlie Brown Christmas CD since the first of October...
Aside from MMJ:
O holy night (preferably sung by my granddad)
and Elvis' Blue Christmas
and the Drifters' White Christmas
Johnny Mathis - When A Child is Born
No contest!
I like:
"Step into Christmas" / Elton John
"Wonderful Christmastime" / Paul McCartney
"White Christmas" / Bing Crosby
"Happy Xmas (War is Over)" / John Lennon
and...
"Feliz Navidad" / Jose Feliciano
I second "White Christmas", Bing Crosby
John Lennon - Happy Christmas (War Is Over)
Wizzard - I Wish It Could Be Christmas Every Day
Slade - Merry Christmas Everybody
Band Aid - Do They Know It's Christmas
Aled Jones - Walking In The Air
Johnny Mathis - When A Child Is Born
Bing Crosby - White Christmas
Nat King Cole - The Christmas Song
Dean Martin - Let It Snow
Ronettes - Frosty The Snowman
Ronettes - I Saw Mummy Kissing Santa Claus
Darlene Love - Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)
I have Christmas Albums by Elvis Presley, Johnny Mathis, Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard, Tammy Wynette, Emmylou Harris + numerous compilations (Motown, Phil Spector etc) & classical CDs.
Oh yeah, let's not forget Bing Crosby/David Bowie-"Little Drummer Boy/Peace on Earth"
Low's Christmas EP is a real gem, particularly "if you were born today," (although it's not like any traditional christmas song and is really pretty sad).
I love "o holy night" more than any other traditional christmas song, and was really happy to hear Jim singing it on that WFPK x-mas show that someone posted awhile back-nice touch with the shoe removal part!
The Ventures - Sleigh Ride (The whole xmas album rocks)
Brenda Lee - Im gonna lasso Santa Clause
I'm surprised no one mentioned "Father Christmas" by The Kinks.
I like Blue Christmas as done by Porky Pig ;D
I'm making a Christmas compilation CD, I have plenty of traditional Christmas music and a bit not so traditional Christmas music but I was wondering if anyone would be willing to upload some cool Christmas tracks. Should I start a new thread for that?
I think I was supposed to upload some of my Christmas stuff for someone here a week or two ago, but I can't seem to find that thread now. I will be working on this when I get home so I'll make a note to upload some of my stuff while I'm at it :)
"Christmas All Over Again" by Tom Petty
not traditional but I can never get it out of my head... I really dig that tune.
Oh yea, and some of that old Alvin and the Chipmonks stuff, that's just classic to me!
QuoteOh yea, and some of that old Alvin and the Chipmonks stuff, that's just classic to me!
HAH! "Christmas, Christmas time is near. Time for laughter, time for cheer. "
My Grandmother bought me that record, I wish I still had it :(
WFPK Silent Night makes me tingle.
In my search for downloadable Christmas tunes I came across these sites:
http://www.ilovewavs.com/Holidays/Xmas/cf/cf.htm
http://mp3.about.com/gi/dynamic/offsite.htm?zi=1/XJ&sdn=mp3&cdn=gadgets&tm=7&gps=76_298_1020_615&f=10&su=p675.101.140.ip_p284.2.420.ip_&tt=2&bt=0&bts=0&zu=http%3A//feelslikechristmas.com/

My Morning Jacket - Santa Claus is back in town
Badly Drawn Boy - Donna & Blitzen
The Flaming Lips - A Change at Christmas (Say It Isn't So)
Radiohead - Winter Wonderland
Jack Johnson - Rudolf the Red Nosed Reindeer
Rob Thomas - New York Christmas
U2 - Baby Please Come Home
Aly & A.J. - Jingle Bell Rock
Eels - Everything's Gonna Be Cool This Christmas
Pearl Jam - Someday at Christmas

Ben Folds - Bizarre Christmas Incident
Everclear - Santa Baby
My Morning Jacket - Christmas Time is Here Again
John Lennon - Happy Xmas (War is Over)
Pearl Jam - Don't Believe in Christmas
I found a really good source for a bunch of Chrimbo songs... I'll see if I can find it again and post a link :)
Yep here it is:
http://absolutepunk.net/showthread.php?t=185582
It's an absolute goldmine! :)
(Btw I did get most of my mp3s for the comp legally, because I've got the most irritating conscience, but this site helped with the stuff I couldn't get, and most of the comp is on there anyway I think! :))
eeep! Thanks! :D
QuoteI'm surprised no one mentioned "Father Christmas" by The Kinks.
word word word word
Quoteeeep! Thanks! :D
No worries ;D A very merry Christmas to you :)
Dig That Crazy Santa Clause by the Brian Setzer Orchastra on conan tonight was pretty cool.
Jingle Bell Rock
QuoteOh yeah, let's not forget Bing Crosby/David Bowie-"Little Drummer Boy/Peace on Earth"
Cheers MMJ_F - Crosby and Bowie is my all time favorite.
I have been working on my Christmas mix CD and I just have to say that Jim's version of O Holy Night is hauntingly beautiful.
I've also been playing around with Audacity and trying to sing some harmony with it, but eh not so good :-[
last christmas by wham!
Grab Darlene Love's Christmas (Baby Please Come Home) here for free:

How do you like the video of that? I always though Bing looked like he was feeling awkward.
Thanks to everyone who posted links. I'm always on the lookout for new xmas music. happy holidays!
With Dean singing Let It Snow in my ear as I type, I wish a very merry Christmas right back at
ya Bro! :)
Right now it's Aled Jones's Walking In The Air...I wonder what happened to him after his...err...nuts dropped?
Probably works in HMV or something...
Not sure if anyone's mentioned this one...
Vince Guaraldis Charlie Brown Christmas ...great memories from this little gem.

he felt awkward 'cause Bowie could actually sing, and they shared some lines backstage beforehand.
har har
El Vez - Feliz Navi-nada
or
Grandaddy - Alan Parsons in a Winter Wonderland
both on an indie Christmas compilation
QuotePearl Jam - Someday at Christmas
I really love this one. It's on my mix too. :)

Aled Jones is still doing his thang!
//www.aledjones.co.uk ;D
I think this year he is releasing a new version of Walking in the Air where he sings over his old vocal. ie, a kind of Baby Aled vs. Grown Up Aled remix..... 8)
I saw an ad for it on telly....... :)
Thanks for the link Angry.
'Aled on BBC Radio Wales, Aled will be joined by special guest Engelbert Humperdinck.'
His name never fails to make me smile. He's an artist that has been in my self conscious forever but I don't think I've ever seen a picture of him or heard him sing...

man, i love playing christmas music! it puts everybody in a good mood.
from the world of Bob Dylan. His radio show on XFM, Theme Time Radio Hour, featured a double episode on Xmas this week. There's a lot of great xmas music on here I wasn't familiar with before.
X-mas 2 parts

The radio show includes Bob Dylan reciting the night before xmas. If you'd just like to hear that, here is a link:

"I believe in Father Christmas"--Emerson, Lake, and Palmer. A truly beautiful Christmas piece.
I also love the old "Sing Along with Mitch Miller" albums my folks have, they totally bring out the Chistmas spirit in me.
Also really dig The Waitresses "Christmas Wrapping", not a real traditional song but it takes me back to a lot of great times...and that is a big part of Christmas to me: the memories evoked by the season are like a whole other present.
Guys, it's almost time...
This will be the year I finally get my hands on A Charlie Brown Christmas. And that one MMJ album...
Fairytale of New York by The Pogues. No competition.
Oh Lord, K. "Skating" is one of the best pieces ever written.
As far as Christmas songs, mine might have to be either "I Just Wanted To Say" or "Xmastime Is Here Again" off the Xmas Fiasco...
This Christmas (Donny Hathaway version)
Another Lonely Christmas-Prince (Kinda depressing buuut...)
What is the actual title of the "chestnuts roasting on an open fire..." song??? (Nat King Cole version)
i went thru this whole thread and not one mention of Blue Christmas by THE KING. what's wrong w/you people?
also agree w/the chipmunk song, happy xmas (war is over) by J Lennon and Brenda Lee's Rockin around the xmas tree
Spotlight On Christmas - Rufus Wainwright
...I love this song any time of the year...
