Title: Next Year's CDs
Post by: xmascriminal on Nov 27, 2008, 05:42 PM
What're you looking forward to? I've got six on my must buy list:

Morrissey (the songs he's played live from it sound really great)
State Radio
The Decemberists
M. Ward
Dave Matthews Band (Eh Hee is my favorite song by them in a long time)
and maybe Pearl Jam, they've been in the studio but they haven't confirmed anything.

Eh Hee's as new as Shotgun. Are you saying it won't be on it becuase Dave recorded that version for iTunes?

No, I mean it is supposedly going to be all new songs as in songs not even performed live yet. I was just saying I hope Shotgun is the exception.

Judging by this video, Shotgun may very well be on it, even though the version at the end of this vid is live. It is however a promo of sorts for the new album. Seeing Roi on here all excited about the new music gets me sad...

So we aren't getting #27 either? I was so excited that he had this great new group of songs that would make an awesome album and now he isn't going to use any of them? That is really, really, really lame.

Umm....I have no idea whats even on the slate for next year. Usually for me, the next 3-4 months are spent trying to find what I missed from 2007 since all kinds of lists (just like the thread here) start coming up and I can find what I like. I know theres all kinds hip hop I havent got, and I found over a handful of albums yesterday from other genres Im interested in probably getting.

That said, ill 2nd:
M Ward
Doves (although I didnt really like Some Cities, but I loved Last Broadcast and Lost Souls even moreso...so well see what the new one sounds like).

And maybe that Danger Doom 2, MF DOOM and Ghostface Killah album, or just your damn solo album DOOM!! Get off your lazy ass and release some tunage!

I get the Siamese Dream correlations and that's o.k. with me.  I saw them during the Siamese Dream tour in New Orleans and they were fucking fantastic.  James Iha was very underrated and I'll take Jimmy Chamberlin as one of the purest rock drummers any day of the week.  It's a shame what happened though - they just lost me.  Someone should take Gish in that little fantasy music thing going on too.

I also hear alot of Pixie in their dynamics and transitions (whatever that means).  Dude is just so confident with his guitar and his voice (which I happen to like) will keep them from ever getting overblown.

Killswitch Engage just became my most anticipated album of 2009.  They just announced that Brendan O'Brien is going to be producing it with Adam D. co-producing.  Adam D. has done all of their records up to this point and I think that bringing in an outside producer is the best thing they could do at this point because after the last album I wasn't sure where they could go, at least from a production stand point.  Adam D. has worked on a lot of albums in the last few years and they usually fit the same mold.  They sound great but they sound absolutely pristine.  Pristine to the point where, to me at least, it loses some of the human qualities of playing.

However, I'm not sure if Brendan O'Brien is the right choice.  It makes me worry that they're going to continue down the path away from the crushingly catchy metal they're capable of and aim more towards making a really accessible pop-metal album.  At this point I'd like to see them put out the heaviest album of their career.  Just to reel some of the metal fans back in who may not have liked the more radio friendly parts of "As Daylight Dies".  As much as I hate to use the analogy, they should aim more for the heavier side of Ozzfest (ha, like Ozzfest is relevant anymore), Warped Tour.

Regardless, I'm stoked to see the result that the big change behind the desk will bring.  It should be a sweet production, even if the songs aren't all there.

I thought their debut was fantastic. I was incredibly disappointed when they had to back out of opening for Wolfmother in '06 when they rolled through St Louis. The other times they came have been to open for bands I had no interest in seeing. I love that he isn't afraid of the fuzz box.

Jimmy Chamberlin is on a whole different level as rock drummers.

Not to slight the jacket, but I think my ears are still ringing from the Beyond tour. Loudest. Show. Ever.

With that said, the strokes are going in the studio, though I'm not sure if I should be excited about that.

Let's not forget the new Umphrey's out on Inauguration day. 2 of the 3 singles rock extremely hard.

Phish has been seen in the studio in Brooklyn as well, but who really cares about a phish studio album.

It better be a major step away from Attack & Release, which is clearly haunted by the ghost of Ike turner and he's not what I'd expect to be a friendly ghost (that album was a major let down to me)

I sure as hell do!!

Judging by how absolutely subterraneously shitastic Undermind was was, and Round Room not too far off (46 Days and Seven Below are about the only good tunes), I would definitely like to hear an album that at least harkens back to Farmhouse.

Hell, judging by Metallica and Death Magnetic, maybe they could even pull a Story of A Ghost outta their asses

Good point. I'd settle for something as straight forward as Nectar also. I just don't really care so much for a new album as much as I'd like to see them actually tour somewhere near me in addition to VA and the rumored Red Rocks show.

As far as the Keys, I just did not like the polished feel of it. It wasn't as hook based as I like their stuff to be. I just let it slide because it was supposed to be something entirely different but plans had to change.

CAMDEN!? CAMDEN!?

I was really pushing for the Rock in Newark if we have to have it in one of the worst cities in the nation. There's ample mass transit and it's across the street from my school.

Camden has no mass transit, is twice as bad as Newark, and the cops are waaaay more intrusive near Philly.

I'm torn on the whole Bonnaroo thing. I heard they're not doing any Festivals, but if it brings the 'roo back to its roots, I'm all for it.

QuoteMeg Hamilton as in our former EC?
Yep! If you've ever bought any of her music then she sends you email updates. No new songs yet but it's always good to hear these one's again, especially Are The Birds...

I remember her avatar was that sexy cover of Clapton's, "EC Was Here"...which happens to be my favorite Clapton album.  Where'd she go anyways?
