Before the Flood (with the Band), It's not his all-time best, but it seems like I'm playing this one the most...
Blonde on Blonde
Desire
Blood on the Track
Time out of Mind ('Not dark yet' comes close to being my favourite Dylan song)

Is noone down with "Another Side of Bob Dylan"?

I love that one.

But I'll agree with Rats, Highway 61 Revisited is probably one of the best albums ever made.

Won't you come see me, Queen Jane?

I can't do just one, so here's three:

Blood On The Tracks
Bringing It All Back Home
The Freewheelin' Bob Dlyan

Favourite track, hands down is "Desolation Row".  The first time I heard that song it knocked me on my ass, kicked me in the ribs, then picked me up and took me out for supper.

I don't have them all but probably either:
Blonde on Blonde or
Highway 61 revisited

I've been listening to Time Out Of Mind an obscene amount lately.  It's just sooo good.  So dark and perfect.  Bob is just spewing venom and I love it.

You KNOW I'm getting a copy.  I've got most of the material through actual bootlegs but I'll pay the money for the boost in quality, if there is any.  That's just the kind of Dylan fan I am.  I would definitely check out volumes 1-7 first unless you just have a thing for later Dylan (which a lot of people do).

I've got a thing for all Dylan, but not to your extent as of yet.   ;)

I've got Vol. 4 and am debating between Vol. 1-3 or Vol. 6 next - I watched The Other Side of the Mirror on the weekend and "Who Killed Davey Moore?" floored me like the first time I heard "Desolation Row".  Which would you suggest first between those two?

That's a tough question.  If you're already familiar with the material on Times They are a-Changin and Another Side of then I'd go with vol 1-3.  It's a great collection.  Kind of the first wave of unreleased material after dylan let columbia open the vaults. there are a lot of real gems on there from throughout his career.

Thanks for the advice, that'll be the next one I pick up.

So glad I finally picked up The Basement Tapes.  Incredible stuff.  I think "Million Dollar Bash" is my favourite track after just two listens.

And can never pick 1, but its always between

Blonde on Blonde
Desire
Blood on the Tracks

He doesnt have a bad album that Ive heard, but those 3 all have some of my favorites and are just so strong the whole way thru

"I married Isis on the 5th day of May
But I could not hold on to her, very long
So I cut off my hair and I rode straight away
For the wild unknown country where I could not go wrong"

1.  John Wesley Harding
2.  Blood on the Tracks

This is a tough choice for me. I love all his albums in different ways.

From beginning to end Nashville Skyline is incredible. There isn't one bad song on there! Of course you could say the same for Blood on the Tracks and Desire as well.

Then you have to look at albums like Blonde on Blonde which produced a slew of classic songs. Again, you could also make that same case for Highway 61 and Bringing it All Back Home.

I think for my personal favorite I have to look at the album that I have probably listened to most...

Street Legal.

I know I will get bashed for this because "he's ripping off Marley" or "his emotion sounds faked (as I have read in three different articles)". I'm not saying it's his best work, but it's probably my favorite.

That is the most impossible question in the world. Dylan's albums are like my children. I somehow find myself loving them all the same. If they were my children, and they asked me who I loved the most, I would tell them I loved them all, but I just love each and every one of them in their own sweet special way.

...but Blonde On Blonde would be the one I would shower with gifts and kisses.

Like everyone else, I find it difficult to pick a favorite.
None have ever let me down or bored me.
I have not yet seen mention of NEW MORNING. A GREAT album.
My other favorites are all the ones I own: a lot, but not all of the Dylan out there, so I will list them anyway, (chronologically, going by release-date):
Bob Dylan 1962
The Freewheelin'
The Times They Are A-Changin'
Another Side of Bob Dylan
Bringing It All Back Home
Highway 61 Revisited
Blonde on Blonde
John Wesley Harding
Nashville Skyline
Planet Waves
Blood on the Tracks
The Basement Tapes
Desire
Slow Train Coming
Oh Mercy
Bootleg Series Vol. 1-3
Time Out of Mind
Bootleg Series Vol. 4, Live 1966
Love and Theft
Bootleg Series Vol. 5, Live 1975, Rolling Thunder Revue
Modern Times
Bootleg Series Vol. 8, Tell Tale Signs

Any recommendations as to what I need next? I'm thinking Self-Portrait or Saved...

What an unbelievably difficult question...

Highway 61... freewheelin' Bob Dylan... Blood on the Tracks... Blonde on Blonde...

Right now though I am destroying the Royal Albert Hall show from the Bootleg Series...

Blood on the tracks is essential
