anyone know this buffalo?
i'm really lovin it.
he would've been huge in 1973.
you can listen to his only release here:
http://www.purevolume.com/thewhitebuffalo
Playing Where Dirt & Water...I swear I thought I was listening to Richie Havens! Reminds me of someone else too, can't pin point who yet.
I really really like this, where can I order the EP?
Just ordered the EP from amazon, my wife is gonna kill me, haha!
Seriously though, this is really f**king good!
Cheers CC!
I knew you would dig this! :)
it really reminds me of someone too. not sure but it's like all of those 70s giants like Jackson C Frank, Gordon Lightfoot, Richie Havens, Cat stevens, Mickey Newbury, all rolled into one big buffalo.
Love Song #1 blows me away, instant classic.
This is astounding. Payday cannot come soon enough, I need this EP now.
My order's in. There's a nascent board on the go at:
http://www.thewhitebuffalo.com/
And he's covered the Waterboys' "Fishermans Blues"? Bring it on...

I love all the artists you mentioned there! haha
I remember you saying that you like Mickey Newbury, that's so cool.
Can't wait for my Buffalo EP, thanks again :)

Thanks to another thread on the forum I just ordered his debut CD Hogtied Like A Rodeo from BuffaloRecords in Japan :)
I am so thankful that this thread was started. I haven't been in love with an artist this fast in a really long time. Can someone point me in the direction of the Hogtied album?
Hey Red, some info on the White Buffalo forum. Would seem it's pretty hard to get hold of.
I got mine from a Japanese site, here's the link:
http://boards.thewhitebuffalo.com/ShowPost.aspx?ThreadId=397
The site I ordered from is all in Japanese www.buffalo-records.com but apparently if you email this guy he can help you out: doug@buffalo-records.com
Hope this helps :)
Wonderful! I just sent an email off.
I'm officially obsessed, and his music has only been a part of my life for less than 12 hours.

Yep, I'm sending out a money order tomorrow. :D
Got Hogtied...in the post today.
Have only played it once but it didn't have quite the impact his EP did on me.
Obviously early days yet...
The EP's on the way from the USA. I've ordered two copies, so I can pass the Buffalo on to a Jacket-loving friend.
how do i not know about the white buffalo?
amazing lyrics, melody, vocal. what else could you ask for?
I just had to jump on this band wagon too! I ordered the cd! He's totally freakin HOT too!!! :o :o :o : :-* :-* :-*
My EP arrived today!
Hogtied...is OK but the EP is many times better IMO.
My only complaint is that it's not a full album, excellent stuff!
What's your favorite buffalo song off the ep?
QuoteWhat's your favorite buffalo song off the ep?
Hmm, that's a tough one...
Where Dirt & Water Collide, Love Song #1 & The Matador are my favs but the whole EP is excellent.
My favorite is 10 til' 2. It's like a short film. A love song about a hooker, classic.
Anyone seen him live?
Watched Donovan Frankenreiter's Abbey Road dvd and The White Buffalo joined him on stage for one song. It's a short appearance and he's kinda down in the mix but it was sweet.
I'll have to check that DVD out.
I'm trying to refrain from listening until my copy of Hogtied and the EP arrive. It's hard.
Got the DVD. The Buffalo's performance is the high point of the whole show.
EP arrived today. It's been on repeat for over an hour, and I'm still not sick of it. Amazingly, neither is my wife (and that's really saying something)
QuoteReminds me of someone else too, can't pin point who yet.
I think I've got it. Drop Tracy Chapman down an octave... it's the vibrato.
Haha, I haven't listened to Tracy Chapman in years!
Cat Stevens & Richie Havens are the two artists I think of when I listen to the EP.
Anyone else get Hogtied yet? What did you think of it?
I got "hogtied like a rodeo" three or four days ago. It's been on heavy rotation along side the ep. Love the song "Story", I can't get it out of my head. " The woods, I believe, Today' Tommorow, & Sweet hereafter" are all amazing and sparse much like the ep. Very raw and stripped. The others are all very good songs yet are a little over produced for my taste. Great words and melodies throughout.
My copy of ''Hogtied...'' arrived on Friday and the EP today. This man has far too much talent. He's certainly going to be a legend.
I seriously think this is might be the best EP I've ever heard - I just can't get sick of it.

I just can't understand why this EP hasn't caused a serious buzz.
it's been out for over a year now.
got Hogtied yesterday, checking it out today!

I have been playing Hogtied... almost non-stop for the last 24 hours and I agree it's not as instantly brilliant as the EP but it's been really growing on me. It's almost like two different ep's put together. There's the more traditional, country-ish songs (I Believe, The Bar and The Beer, Sweet Hereafter etc.) and there's the more 'challenging' songs that are more like the EP (Bad Man, Carnage, Time, Wrong etc.). So maybe not as hard-hitting and fleshed-out as his recent stuff but stick with it, it's a real grower.
I'm going to the new years show @ the house of blues in san diego. Anyone else going? I hear The Buffalo is insane live. Better than recordings.

was it insane?
just found out there's 2 old shows on the archive:

I think the guy is really cool. Unfortunatly I only own his EP, but it's awesome. Saw him live back in '05. He opened for Donavon Frankenreiter. Great 40 minutes and his voice literally filled the whole room. Hope he releases a new full-length LP some time soon.

Thanks for these CC :)
The new years eve show was truly amazing. Even better live than recorded. A seriously moving experience. I almost shit my pants during 10 til' 2, so beautiful. He closed with some country and western medley including Folsom Prison Blues. This mans power and vocal range is unmatched. I have no idea how he remains underground. I'm going to see him again tonight at the Orange County Museum of Art at something called The Happening. I can't wait.
What about The White Bufffalo opening for Jacket? It seems like a great fit.

beauts.

That boggles my mind as well. Every single person that I've shown the Buffalo to has fell in love.
I think I'll have to check this out.
The White Buffalo is heading to Australia with Gomez. Anyone going?
Incredible...

I have now. killer. thanks
ps. beard, what's your story? I feel there's a story.
Man, I forgot how incredible this man is. I won't let that happen again.
Rewind nearly four months: Yours truly puts "Where Dirt and Water Collide" on a mix tape for a dear friend who's moving 2000 miles away.
Fast forward to yesterday: Yours truly receives an email from said dear friend (now 2000 miles away) - she heard a slowed-down cover of that opening track from the giant's amazing EP, on a WalMart commercial. Needless to say I'm still in shock. Damn, that's unexpected.

I was looking for this thread to say the exact same thing. Not the friend 2000 miles away part but the Wal-Mart commercial. I saw it this weekend. When the guitar started I knew it sounded like that song but just a little different. I guess that explains the slowed down part. Anyway, it was definitely him.

Damn, that's crazy. I couldn't remember if she told me that it was him or not, so I crossed my fingers and hoped it was a cover.
:-/
The White Buffalo has been diligently working on new recordings for "Hogtied Revisited". This new album will be comprised of newly recorded tracks from the discontinued album "Hogtied Like a Rodeo" along with new unreleased tracks. It is being Co-produced by Ryan Rhem and the Buffalo himself.
That's great news, I couldn't get into Hogtied but his EP is incredible!
I have the EP and it is great. Was wondering what he has been up to.
Wow, there's a whole thread about this guy? He's the man. I saw him open for State Radio. I love both the EP and Hogtied. Great stuff.
You can pre-order the new album "Hogtied Revisited" now via www.thewhitebuffalo.com. It's out on The 27th of Feb.

this is cool...I've been waiting for a new album from him...I loved the stuff I have.
Anyone heard this? Just released on itunes last week. This guys voice and songwriting amaze me. Much much better than the original "hogtied like a rodeo". A beautiful piece of work from beginning to end.
I've posted about this band before but to follow up,
Here is a track download from the upcoming album due in November. BAD ass country from San Diego/North hills. I heard Benmont Tench laid down multiple tracks....

Rock n' Roll is for free
Time for a mega bump.
I had pretty much forgotten about this guy until I fired up Adam Carolla's podcast just now. His guest today? The White Buffalo. I still love his self titled EP from a few years back. He has more albums now I guess.
Anyone seen him lately?
