Post by: rats on Apr 09, 2009, 02:58 PM
never hear anyone mention hotel roy on this board. anyone have the cd "helicopters". thoughts? a friend of mine gave me a copy a little while back. i haven't listened to it much, but it's got kind of a grunge sound. a little like mont de sunda, but with more structure to the songs.

in case anyone is unaware of hotel roy, it was jim james first band.

month of sundays was Jim's first band.  Then Mont de Sundua.  Then Hotel Roy.  Then MMJ.

I offered it up for download about a month ago, may still be available.  I like it.  "Heavier" than MMJ but good.

I actually heard an interview with the producer of the album recently on WFPK talking about the recording of the album.  He said Jim told him he wanted a LOT of reverb on the vocals and he tried to accommodate, but when Tennessee Fire came out he realize Jim likes a LLOOOOOOOTTTTTT of reverb on his voice.

Any other details about the interview itself aMD?  Who? What show?  Can I stream it?  Etc?

It was on the show they have every week or so called Off the Record, coincidentally enough.  They use the MMJ track for the opening but the show is not all about them, it's local people in the music/art scene talking about there favorite records.  I don't think you can stream it.

I'm drawing a complete blank on his name and I'm not real sure where CD case for that is to check.  He said he was the producer, and his label released the disc.  And his brother was in the band.  He also said they recorded it in their house. And that Jim ended up recording most of his tracks in this dude's bedroom closet.  He said he was proud of the record and that's about it.

"recorded and produced at the home of the world renowned Scott Anthony Thomas"

I've heard Off The Record before.  It's pretty neat.  I can't remember when it comes on though.  Thanks, Dylan.

It seems like it comes on at kind of random times, or I just don't really pay attention to clocks unless I'm working.
