...I do enjoy them but sometimes I have a hard time looking past how bad they sold out, they seem to sell there image and music to anything these days...I have seen them twice and the second time I saw them there was this guy being a total asshole taking pictures in Birdwell's face and he fucked up "Swords" and then couldn't remember the words and was visibily pissed....kind of a bummer but then they nailed it and it was sweet...I really like the song "General Specific" from the second record...
booooooooo
sorry i love you still

...you can't tell me that isn't really lame...
Well, what do you think about MMJ having 'Mahgeetah' on that Aspen Edge commercial, Touch Me Pt. 1 on the TV show 'One Tree Hill', video on MTV2 of all places, etc. Is this selling out as well? Not trying to make comparisons, but I know you love the Jacket so I use them as an example. Just sayin'.
Besides the fact that the Touch Me Pt. 2 video is simply BADASS...I just gotta look past the fluff of the record label shit and dig on what I dig on, ya know?
:)
BTW: that chick is HAWT! just sayin'. ;)
Oh, yeah. Do any of you guys have any BoH bootlegs?

...yes, everyone does it to an extent but that commercial in particular stuck me as being really lame...I think there is a difference between having videos played on MTV and TV shows then commercials for cars at what not...

god forbid they actually make a living. you know, with people paying top dollar for albums why would they want to have songs on commercials. At least they don't sell t-shirts for 50 dollars (i'm assuming).
"And the town is gonna talk, but these people do not
See things through to the very minimal
But what's it gonna cost to be gone?
If we see you like I hoped we never would"...

...guess I touched a nerve or something, it was just a comment...I just really hate hearing music in commercials that I listen to in my room, it just seems lame to me, and I am sure they make enough being signed to a pretty big label that they don't have to cash in on all those advertisements before they become old news....here's an example, I fucking love The Who, they are one of my favorite bands, but when I was living with my parents and they would watch CSI (I think) like everyone of those shows has a Who song and I just thought it was wicked lame...it doesn't make me not like them but it still kind of puts a damper on things...I guess I can forgive The Who because they made such a impact of my life, but BOH is newer and kind of just a band I enjoy so I kind of shyed away from them for a while...

the commercial sell out stuff used to bother me (Eric Clapton was the first biggie in the 80's with the Much Lite stuff) but know it is sort of common ground.
I mean Andrew Bird? Spoon? Kings of Leon? Wilco? All these guys have had their music used for mainstream commercialization and it would have bothered me a while back, it's just more acceptable these days.
Good topic, tough. We talked about this a while back, I'll see if I can find the thread and bump it.
peace
I bought Everything All The Time when it first came it, liked it but didn't love it. Decided to buy Cease To Begin a month or so back (better late than never)...what an amazing album!!!

Yes sir...get on that horse! 8-)
These guys are in town to make a new album. A friend of mine works at one of the local guitar shops and he said he met them last week. They came in and were asking some questions , buying stuff, blah blah blah. So he asked why they were in town and who they were. He didn't realize what they look like. :)
Anyway, they were apparently at one studio, but moved to another studio in town and another guy that I know is getting to be an assistant because he is the main engineer at the place. Pretty cool...
Where do you live? They're Charleston locals and I'm interested in seeing what they're up to...
I live in the Shoals area of NW Alabama. I'm not sure if they are at the studio this week or not. I know they were spotted a few times last week.
I read they were in Alabama to record....
Great news indeed, thanks for the heads-up Corey!
I absolutely adore Cease to Begin!!!
Ahhhh...hell yeah. I can't wait for this goodness. I'm sure they'll be busting out the new stuff in Atlanta.
If they're in the studio now, then the album should be out.............................by March-ish? I can't wait to see what it's like. I loved those guys from the beginning. They're not for everybody though.
These guys are really starting to grow on me.
they're playing one night of the bridge school benefit this weekend. woo!

I'll be interested to see what happens with the recordings. Someone told me that they were basically just doing demos while they were here, but it seems weird to come all the way down here to try to capture the "essence" of a place like the Shoals just to get some demos.
These guys are SO down to earth and SO approachable very much like MMJ in those aspects. And as far as I'm concerned that is a great quality in an individual. So many popular people have their heads up their asses and forget who they once were. :-/
My friend at the music store said the same thing. He said that they came back by on their way out of town to thank all the employees for their hospitality while they were here.

Nobody else excited about the upcoming tour?!!

I can't wait for the new album...
So, how about Grand Archives, the "new" band from Mat Brooke. I like it very much.

They're not coming anywhere close enough for me (like within 200 miles), but we'll see...
Do you know when the new album is coming out? Couldn't find anything about it on their website.

I think I remember reading Spring/Summer 2009 but don't quote me...Rccola71? Corey?
I haven't heard anything. The last thing that I heard was that most of the stuff that they recorded while they were at FAME in Muscle Shoals ended up being demo sessions instead of master sessions. I think they did more tracking at Echo Mountain, which will probably end up being the album material.
I could be wrong about all of that though.
Cheers for that Corey! :)
Can you make it to any of the shows?
Probably not. I'm not a huge fan anyway. I dig some of their stuff, but I have to drive at least 2 hours to catch any shows and it's not really worth it for me.
no FLA shows :-[ :-[ could always drive to Asheville
Quoteno FLA shows :-[ :-[ could always drive to Asheville
How far away is that? You've seen them before, right? I'd
love to see them live...
Highly anticipated! We're getting to the Myrtle Beach HOB show this summer. The new stuff sounds great. More vocals from Ryan and it's nice to hear Tyler's influence here as well. Here's the Bridge School Benefit show:

I wanted to see them in NY, but I'll be down at Bonnaroo when they're up here... but.. they're playing at Bonnaroo... so it's a non-issue now!
Can't wait to see them!
