Anyone eles excitied?
http://dead.net/dead09
Hell yes! Preliminary indications are that I will be in Philly the first weekend of May and most likely the opener in Greensboro!
All over this..probably go to a show in MA and then MSG.
Snap. I'll be at the Allstate Arena show...think they'll announce more dates in the summer? I can't imagine they'd skip Alpine Valley...
Yeah, Alpine Valley became a staple. I would think they'll add more shows. They only have 3 out west scheduled as of now. Man, they seem pretty amped up to get out there and play. Phil talking about the "possibilities, no ceiling and no floor!" :D
Will definitely be at the closer at Shoreline. Super excited. It's gonna be a blast!
Whats up with 3 shows in the Philly area and nothing in Pittsburgh?!!?? Hell, or even Cleveland...

They will. No doubt there will be summer festival dates and more shows in more cities.
Ooh, they would be a sweet festival headliner; I hadn't considered that. I hope they play ACL.
Oh snap, looks like EMEK is doing the poster:

Yeah it will but this vine was dead and buried on Page 11 and no one has posted about shows attended not a peep. We got tix when this was last show on schedule as we try to do with groups we like. You know go to the closer on the tour blow it out with the kids. Also we like to go to opening shows too. Now every time bands add shows on front end and back. PJ and MMJ has done it now the Dead and it pisses me off big time. Now with the Allman Bros sandwiched between 2 Dead shows @ shoreline and then the effen gorge.what are they doing to us. I might make one Allman show and I'll buy the boot from Shoreline 2 and the gorge. Anyone get any recent shows or go to any? Or Should we bury this one? Thoughts?
I saw them at the Nassau Coliseum a couple of weeks ago, they put on a good show. I'm not really a deadhead, but it was pretty cool, they covered a bunch of Dylan.
This will be long but I'll chime in. I had an absolutely fantastic time at the DC show (second of the tour). While the sound wasn't the best in that place, the vibes were definitely there, not to mention a stellar setlist. The guys have been all through the catalog to date, busting out lots of early 66-69 Dead and it sounds great.
In DC, we got the very rare Pride of Cucamonga from Phil, followed by Warren on Easy Wind (easily my favorite track on Workingman's). A rocking Alabama Getaway, Big Railroad Blues ended first set.
Second set opened with a beautiful little 3 song acoustic set, followed by a way out there Space>Dark Star>King Solomon's Marbles>Drums>Come Together>Dark Star, with Sugar Mags to close it out. Then a double encore of Uncle John's and Ripple!
This will always hold a special place in my heart as I went to this show with a friend of mine, and it had been since '94 that we were together at a show. Obviously, lots of stuff happens in life, but between these two shows, my friend lost his brother pretty tragically. His bro's favorite song was Ripple, so to hear that together at the end of a fabulous show was a moment I was so glad to share with him. We had previously had trouble deciding which show to hit and it really felt we were meant to be in DC at the end of that night :)
I also listened to the live broadcast of the Philly show Saturday night with the same friend, on Sirius, and it sounded great. Another great setlist and another Beatles cover, Revolution, makes us 2 for 2 in that regard. Other highlights of that show for me included Brown Eyed Women, Cumberland Blues, Cryptical>Other One, Morning Dew, St. Stephen and a Help>Slip>Franklin's to close second set.
David Lemieux and others have been doing a great job of recapping each venue's history relating to the Dead and each show and updating the setlists each night over at dead.net

Your post hit me like Sunshine! :D Too cool. Great review and thoughts. I'm also going with friend I ain't been to the Dead with since '79 Eugene.I read a little on dead.net but for most part I'm not going on their site or reading set lists much or listening to anything from tour I want to sort of hear the music fresh if you know what I mean like be less jaded than I am if possible. Getting ansy tho' fo sho :)
I know what you mean about being ansy, we were giddy with excitement like you wouldn't believe on the roadie over and on the way back. Made 6 hours each way go by pretty quick.
I respect that you're going in with a fresh mind. I hope/think you'll rewarded with some good times with the family
That's also a bummer about your little tradition on the ender/opener, but I really did think back when it was announced that they would add more shows. I actually think they still might add a few more out there for you west coast folks. My buddy and I were really hoping for a fall tour but the ABB has shows booked through till the 3rd week in Oct. Warren's a busy man, huh?
Oh yeah Warren's the man, no doubt. And ansyer now

The surviving (and formerly feuding) members of the Grateful Dead had a secret impromptu meeting Monday evening with the man they credit with reuniting them: President Obama.
The president welcomed all the members of The Dead, who are performing tonight at the Verizon Center in Washington, to the Oval Office just before dinner last night. They didn't talk music as much as they did history - history about the Oval Office, and the president's desk.
Apparently the band was quite taken with how tidy the president keeps his desk. And how down-to-earth he seemed, according a source who was there.
"The president was so gracious. Really, really nice and so welcoming. It hit you: you're in the Oval Office, but it was so normal," the source told us.
The entourage included the four surviving members of the Grateful Dead - Bob Weir, Phil Lesh, Mickey Hart, Bill Kreutzmann - plus keyboardist Jeff Chimenti (from Weir's Ratdog) and Warren Haynes, who is joining the Dead on their 2009 spring tour as lead vocalist and guitarist. Some of them had their wives in tow.
As if chatting with the president in the Oval Office weren't cool enough, something remarkable happened on their way out. Just outside the Oval Office, Phil and his wife, Jill Lesh, spotted a vase full of Scarlet Begonias sitting on a table.
For the uninitiated, "Scarlet Begonias" is one of the late Grateful Dead band leader Jerry Garcia's most famous songs. (Check out a youthful looking Jerry Garcia singing "Scarlet Begonias" in this 1977 video, and be sure you have a tissue.)
After admiring the Scarlet Begonias, the band went next door to the Eisenhower Executive Office Building to meet with the most prominent Deadheads in the Obama White House: senior advisors David Axelrod and Pete Rouse, and deputy chief of staff Jim Messina. All three are planning to go to tonight's one and only Dead show in Washington, we're told.
After leaving the White House, the members of the Dead - none of whom, surprisingly, wore tie-dyed t-shirts to the Oval Office - walked over to their favorite Washington restaurant, the Old Ebbitt Grill, for dinner.
Given that the Dead sparked the "Deadheads for Obama" movement when they reunited during the 2008 presidential campaign to play a fundraiser for Obama, we expect to see plenty of happy Deadheads at the show. We'll give you a full update, so check back.

What a long strange trip it's.................... you can't make this stuff up. I dare you to try
Here's where I got the idea for the tat that I don't want tatted on me but if I did dis would be dat tat. You cover the blue part and it says acid I had the window sticker for a long time but cant find another guess I will make one. Other album art may do same if you look at it right. You tell me.

I think your camera was even trippin' balls :D
Were those last pics the fire dancers? I was reading about the show over on dead.net...looked like a hell of an encore! :D Are you heading back down for the 2nd show? Catchin' any Allmans?
Those are fire dancers and my camera was trippin' balls. ::) If that means not much memory and can't shoot a good pic after dark, yeah.
Was not planning on going Thursday. After going on Sunday we got tickets for Thursday's show a room and plans for weekend ;)
As for Allman Bros. I threw what I had left in my pea brain at my friends to get them interested and kick down a ticket. So far no ticket. Day and a half til' doors little hope left. I saw the Allman's Eat a Peach Tour so I can roll tape in my head.
Two Dead shows in one week and mini vacation with LucyLew ;) nothin' left to do but...... :) :) :)
Hell yeah, ETB! :D I thought we got a treat with the double encore in DC, then the boys had to one-up that and treat you to the triple!

YO, cool signature Sheriff, just caught that...I guess the other night really inspired you!
QuoteYO, cool signature Sheriff, just caught that...I guess the other night really inspired you!
Let my inspiration flow
in token lines suggesting rhythm
that will not forsake me
till my tale is told and done
While the firelight's aglow
strange shadows in the flames will grow
till things we've never seen
will seem familiar
Shadows of a sailor forming
winds both foul and fair all swarm
down in Carlisle he loved a lady
many years ago
Here beside him stands a man
a soldier by the looks of him
who came through many fights
but lost at love
While the storyteller speaks
a door within the fire creaks
suddenly flies open
and a girl is standing there
Eyes alight with glowing hair
all that fancy paints as fair
she takes her fan and throws it
in the lion's den
"Which of you to gain me, tell
will risk uncertain pains of Hell?
I will not forgive you
if you will not take the chance"
The sailor gave at least a try
the soldier being much too wise
strategy was his strength
and not disaster
The sailor coming out again
the lady fairly lept at him
that's how it stands today
you decide if he was wise
The storyteller makes no choice
soon you will not hear his voice
his job is to shed light
and not to master
Since the end is never told
we pay the teller off in gold
in hopes he will come back
but he cannot be bought or sold
You're gettin' one of those tonight Sheriff! I've just got a feeling!!!
