Title: Violin Man
Post by: Oz on May 23, 2004, 09:09 AM
Just strolled through the latest pics in the Gallery, and on one of the pics from the 05/18 show, there“s a man standing in front of the stage, singing and playing the violin. Who is he? Is he a new member, or a guest star? MMJ with violin, boy, would that be beautiful...

Especially that second song, 'Solvay' totally gets me, I must say. Wow! What a song... I'm gonna have to be careful not to become a fan of that man.

I'll second the statement that Andrew Bird is Amazing.  I fist got to know of him from his work on the Squirrel Nut Zippers' records.  His early stuff was good, but the album 'The Swimming Hour' is an absolute monster of a recording.  I highly recommend it to everyone.

His latest, 'Weather Systems', doesn't sound quite as big, sonically speaking, but it's beautiful all the same.  The melodies creep up on you and find a place in your brain to take root.

I was going to try very hard to get to St. Louis to see AB and MMJ together, but it just didn't happen.  Luckily, I got the next best thing: a copy of their show together in Boulder.  Fan-damn-tastic!

If you see that Mr. Bird is to be playing near you, go see him.  You won't be disappointed.
