I agree! This is an excellent album.
i love it!! especially Trouble weighs a ton and Real Desire!
Love this record. It has a certain spark that the Keys records are lacking, IMO.
For me, the highlights are "When the Night Comes" (Otis Redding needs to come back from the dead to cover this song) and "Mean Monsoon"
If you buy the vinyl, it comes with a cd, too :)
getting it on friday. i've really liked what i've heard so far. going to be seeing him on march 7th. first concert of the year, so i'm pretty pumped.
it is simply amazing. i'm most fond of "whispered words" today, but ask me again tomorrow. i'm hoping to catch him when he rolls through dc. those darlins are opening and i've taken a liking to them as well
I'm lookin forward to gettin home, poor me 3 fingers of moonshine and kickin back and relaxin with some Dan in my ear.
I need to see him on this tour. Hacienda is backing, right?

question about this. i've ordered vinyl that comes with the cd a couple of times before. Every time I've done this, the cd isn't the actual cd. it looks like a burnt cd and my computer won't recognize it. which means no new music to put into my ipod. so is this the actual cd or will i get fooled again?
QuoteI need to see him on this tour. Hacienda is backing, right?
yeah, hacienda and those darlins. good bands?
hacienda is backing, and i hear good things. those darlins are a fun country-rock all-girl band from just outside nashville.

so what you're saying...this is my one chance to be a male-groupie? don't fuck this up walts, you can do this!! [smiley=vrolijk_26.gif] [smiley=bath.gif]

I know what you mean, Walts - I think the last Shellac record I bought came with one of those. The Auerbach one looks completely normal, though - it's just in a cardboard sleeve instead of the regular CD packaging. My computer recognized it just fine.
Can you get his album at the common record store?
Sure, I think so.
fyi, dan is on conan o'brien tonight friday the 13th. :D
going to see him at the bowery ballroom. can't wait.
That tune on Conan he just played was pret-tay good....Last Mistake?
I think I need to get this album sooner rather than later. Sounds real good from the clips and that did nothing to make me think anything less.
I hope he sent the Jonas Brothers home crying in shame.

i don't post much but had to thank you guys for this thread. i got this cd yesterday and its really blowing my mind. "my last mistake" "trouble weighs a ton" and "real desire" == so great. 8-)

Ugh. Going to sound like such a poser, but I agree...that song is fantastic. This album is getting all of my attention these past few days.

I got tickets to see him here! Yay.
i just won a pair of tix from our local record store for the dc show on saturday, crooked beats! i've since picked up the ep from the opening bands: those darlins (www.myspace.com/darlins) and the hacienda (http://www.haciendaonline.net/), and i'm completely jazzed. i must pass on the ticket karma
I've had this for a while now and I love it more and more. Just got it on vinyl and going to see him Sunday in Boston..can't wait!
Black Keys guitarist and vocalist Dan Auerbach has recently released a killer solo disc, Keep It Hid, and he's just days away from embarking on a 10-city solo tour!
Backing Auerbach during his sets is the awesome Texas band Hacienda (who will also open the shows), who we introduced you to a few months ago.
The bummer is that, due to a death in his family, drummer Bob Cesare won't be making the trek with Auerbach. In his place, though, will be My Morning Jacket monster Patrick Hallahan. (The last time we saw Patrick he was ecstatically spinning around in circles at the Silent Disco at Bonnaroo, but we're sure he's recovered from that!)

long way from Sixburgh, and me's finally got a job
Seeing this guy tomorrow in Boston. Should be nice to hear him with a full band backing him.
Last night at the show in DC I saw someone up in the balcony taking pictures during the Hacienda set that looked awfully similar to Patrick. I assumed it couldn't be him, since it also reminded me way too much of a recreation of the Evil Urges cover, but what an awesome surprise when he came out on stage! It was a great show as it is but his appearance was a nice bonus.
i was at the show as well and it was great fun. i think patrick's warming up to/learning the tunes by playing the role of percussionist for now. hacienda's percussionist was the main drummer for both hacienda and auerbach's sets, but i think that'll change later on in the tour. hacienda's got a great sound and they're a perfect fit for dan. pat was maraca-rockin' (4 at a time) and working the triangle, but he got some quality time behind the kit, and it looked like he was really having a blast.
Just bought this. Great album
I am super diggin' it.
who else is going to the tues Dan show? i am going and i think blue sky is going, too. can't wait.
I'm reading this as Patrick is doing the whole tour.. :-?..

Dan was awesome! And Patrick really kicked it in the end when he was on the kit. Most of the set, Patrick was playing maracas and triangle and just dancing. He is a great dancer! Jim and Tommy where up in the guest of the bands spot on the balcony....again a very EU cover reference, if only they were standing up. I think Jim was laying low because our whole section of the floor was looking his way.

wharf--i forgot..you're in athens, right? oxford?
Brian Phillips from CD 101. He remembered me calling in requesting the verve, he remembers that i was the girl who brought the Richard Ashcroft solo album down to the studio the day it came out. Remember Brian and Joe in the mornings? i listened to them every day for 4/5 years. we had a great discussion of Yo La Tengo and Sonic Youth. He's always wanted to come to the YLT hannukuh shows; it was a crazy night.
Penny, yes I'm in Athens. Boo on the preppies from Oxford :)
Growing up in Chillicothe, we usually could only get QFM 96.3, so that was mostly my Columbus radion listening. I've listened to a bit of CD 101, but not much. They do play some good stuff. That really is a pretty surreal night for you! Glad you had a fun, wierd time!

CD 101 were the original alternative station. I loved them. They played everything (similar to NY RXP 101.9) but not quite as good.
Penny, that's so cool! What an awesome night.
You think Jim and Tommy are gonna follow 'em on the rest of the tour? Hmmm...here's hoping... ;D
amazing show. just awesome. dan is a f'ing ax murderer. true rAwk and roll for sure.
i thought patrick did a great job on percussion. he sat down at his set for a couple songs. other wise he was standing up at the bongos and playing a mean maraca. he also broke the 'biggest triangle ever'. that was pretty awesome.
they ran through most of the album and threw in a couple covers. came back out for a two song encore. i think they played everything they had.
def go see this tour if you have a chance!!
we also closed the downstairs bar with JJ at 2am. he was real chill, got a pic with him.

i have been kicking my own a** all over town. Las Vegas totally didn't have my back last night lol. He is dead to me.
Blue Sky and i went upstairs before the show started and he walked right past us, but i am not good w/meet immortals. i clam up and didn't even bother trying to meet him again.
I think the night might have been full of too many stars for you, pennylane. You were lost in the excitement. It was a great night!
I never get to meet Jim. I've tried (damn roadies). He won't be in Minneapolis that's for sure. The show's at First Avenue, so I could have a chance to meet Prince. Jim got compared to Prince, so if this does happen, I'm just going to say I met Jim. Fuck it.
I guess I could always shoot for meeting Dan.
Anyone going to the show tonite at the Metro in Chicago ?

For me, the highlights are "When the Night Comes" (Otis Redding needs to come back from the dead to cover this song) and "Mean Monsoon"
Im listening to Keep It Hid and for some reason you saying this stuck with me and I remembered it, but as I was listening the song I thought I remembered you saying it for was Whispered Words (Pretty Lies). Put the Funk Brothers on the instruments and I could totally see The Temptations or Percy Sledge or Otis singing this song.
Its funny though, because I agree When That Night Comes has that vibe too, and I think Mean Monsoon does too and a couple other electric songs do as well, such as My Last Mistake. You'd expect it to be more blues oriented, and some are, but they really harken back to that period possibly moreso. If youre just listening to the album, I dont think its all that apparent, but if you're trying to find a motown or old school R&B underlying sound, its there - even in the lyrics. Mindblowing. :o
And like I started out saying, first time Ive listened to this in probably over a month, and just as good as when I first heard it. I really like this album.
I finally got this record...and I love it!

Does he play some Black Keys songs as well? Havent seen the Black Keys live yet, really need to catch them when they're in Holland again.

fo sho. The Wailers are playing the Arts Fest too, I think the following Sunday. Booker T. is playing on 1 day during the week. I didnt recognize any other bands/musicians theyre having there.
Hartwood Acres has a couple good (free) shows scheduled so far too. July 26th is JJ Grey&Mofro and the Robert Cray Band and August 9th is Son Volt. Old 97's have a show there too, but Ive never listened to them, just heard that theyre good.
Havent seen anything else really that interested me too much besides Phish. Gov't Mule is playing early August though.

I will have to disagree...I've heard Drummer...Dan's album is my album of the year so far.
Saw him last week with the Last Five in Amsterdam. Great Great show. Was (nearly) as good as a MMJ show, especially towards the end of the show :D. Was the last show of the European tour. Dan didnt have a beard anymore, so I didnt recognize him at first (he looked 20 years younger :P) . Band was great, Patrick Hallahan was there as well. He was having a great time with his triangle and maracas ;D. The simultanous drumming was impressive, seemed like Patrick had played for ages with these guys. Bassplayer was really good as well. Sound was perfect. I hope Dan Auerbach will keep on playing with these guys sometimes, would be great ;).
excellent show indeed sidus.

I believe he'll be playing with them throughout the summer, at Lolla for sure.

Black Keys are playing in the Burgh friday....dont know about solo Auerbach
I just meant that if it's an Auerbach solo show this summer, the Hacienda boys (and maybe Patrick?) are likely to be there as his backing band.
QuoteDrummer's (Patrick's side-project) "Diamonds to Shake" trumps everything on Keep it Hid.

that's one of the most ridiculous, bullshit statements i've read on this board in a long time.
