Im not sure if this was posted or not but...
Does anyone on here feel the same way I do but, Im not sure if they'll play this year or not. I sure hope so since my pals will be ready for the trip.
Someone on another thread posted they think they will. Check here:

But will they finally give them a headlining bill as is deserved?
QuoteBut will they finally give them a headlining bill as is deserved?
There's a section on the bonnaroo website where the staffers pick their top ten favorite albums of 2008 and many of them picked Evil Urges so anything's possible.

They better play at bonnaroo this year! they are the entire reason why i would go! without them its not worth it. :'(
I think they will do it. This is totally my opinion. They love that place. Jim loves playing there. MMJ and Les Claypool have played bonnaroo for a long time. They should do it

I feel the same. My whole trip is counting on it.
I hope they do. Could you imagine this lineup:
My Morning Jacket
Widespread Panic
Phish
The Dead
Pearl Jam

i agree-i don't think there's any way MMJ or PJ would be there. The others--yeah.
WSP fans are so damn weird, too. this last year at bonnaroo--wow, are they fans or a bunch of circus freaks auditioning for cirque de soleil? (just sayin-sorry to offend) it's just odd. thank god robert randolph jammed w/them.
Aw. I know it's unlikely, but I still have my fingers crossed that MMJ will play.

Yes it is! Can't wait. And I'm also not really expecting it but REALLY hoping they'll be back!

Sunday? Really? Isn't that usually left for Phil and Friends to close? That sucks, usually I get a head start by leaving during the sunday closer since Phil and Friends are a staple.

No, phil played sat night last year---during/after PJ
i think the dead will take one of the late night spots (unfortunately) that way phish get the fri/sat slots and bruce closing.
How sure are you guys about Phish? Maybe I'm missing something, but I'll be very surprised if they are there.

guarantee it.
bet my first born.
its no coincidence they are in knoxville that week, and there is a gap in the t00r around bonnaroo. :o
They'll be there. :D
Phish are only playing one night.
Rolling Stone said Phish will be there. Hence, it's gospel.
ALady-1 night?
possibly Fri-Bruce, Sat-Phish and Sun-The Dead? ?

lol THANKS
What I posted was Merle's tour schedule, not that leak (which has shown up on the Bonnaroo forum and is being questioned as a number of confirmed acts don't show up on it). Should be out at midnight tonight or, at a minimum, on The Tennessean's site at 5 am CST tomorrow morning.
Exciting!
I heard the bassist? left NIN and they won't be playing any shows this year.. but that would be a great show for roo.

Here it is officially
Late announcement of MMJ and the Dead perhaps? I don't know about this. I'm all set to go but without MMJ I have another trip I need to schedule and pay for. I need to see MMJ as part of my summer plans. When do you think more could be added?

There's two more rounds usually, right? usually one near late march/early april, and final sometime in may?
I'm confused, I just assumed they would play every year unless they in the studio. Are they in the studio again? After the MSG NYE show I remember thinking alright now I have to wait until June. Does anyone know why they aren't on board? I assume if they aren't on now they most likely won't be added? Animal Collective & TV on the Radio will have me down there regardless.
Bonnaroo without MMJ is like lamb without tuna fish. >:(

superfly really does not like to invite the same bands two years in a row. they have made exceptions in the past, but not this year.
no mmj, sorry guys. but it will still rock.
nah, i think superfly would LOVE to have them there again, it's just that they used to play it every year when they were starting out (and being a KY band it made sense) they are big now and they are not gonna keep playing every year unless they have an album out. they are not a festival band anymore. think how hard it would be to keep trying to out do themselves --think about it!! they didn't play in 2007 cuz they had nothing coming out. they played 08 because of EU.
MMJ have taken off kids.

i would love to have them there, but i'm just telling you what superfly's policy is, told to me from people at superfly.
think what you want.
nah, i know people at superfly, too. they have a lot of the same acts every year (if not every other year). I know what you mean about not having headliners there every year the same but i know they'd have MMJ there in a heartbeat. most of the acts this year have been there before for the most part..MGMT, grace potter, ben harper, moe, gomez, etc etc...no one really new
I can honestly say that I am so happy with the lineup that I do not feel disappointed MMJ isn't on it...yet. ;) But even if they don't show, this lineup is diversified enough for my liking and I'm really looking forward to June. I was sort of under the impression that Jim will be working on collaborative stuff this year, so I'm not that surprised they aren't on the bill...yet. ;)
Penny, we're going VIP and already have our tickets. There will be a massive camp of us (25+) and you are more than welcome to join us.
I don't see Kanye.... I'll be there..
ghosts--if i go, i gotta meet up w/you and ghostess for NIN or conor.
sass--i'll definitely let you know! if i go, right now there is a couple from hoboken that want to go again. VIP is ridiculous this year (no VIP bleachers, food or bathrooms? only showers...) VIP only had a HILL last year, right? 25 people campsite? i don't even know 25 people ...haha ....WILCOOOOOOOOOOOOO!! i am going to try to use the guest camping hookup i used last year from superfly if i go, but i don't know if i can...i hate being THAT GIRL that asks for stuff all the time. we'll see.
QuoteQuoteLate announcement of MMJ and the Dead perhaps? I don't know about this. I'm all set to go but without MMJ I have another trip I need to schedule and pay for. I need to see MMJ as part of my summer plans. When do you think more could be added?

I thought they usually do 3-4 additions, with the first being in a few weeks or whenever they have a handful or so to add
I'm still hopefull. Let's stay positive people. After NYE I just need to see them again. I've seen the other headliners and yes I absolutely love sprinsteen but MMJ have rejuvinated my love for live music. Springsteen is here in May I could catch that and still sleep at home..
But Phish... hmmm do I want to revisit that stage of life .... I could be convinced.
Penny, there are definitely still bathrooms and bleachers. Just no food this year (well, it's an add on if you want it). Girl, you scared me.
(2) VIP tickets
• Exclusive VIP entrance
• Preferred parking and camping near venue in VIP area for one car (See below for RV upgrade info.)
• Special shower and restroom facilities with attendants
• VIP pre-event dinner and party on Thursday night
• Three exclusive VIP lounges located throughout the site
• Exclusive viewing bleachers from the What and Which stages
• Commemorative Bonnaroo package including t-shirt, poster, and exclusive
I'll vouch for the bathrooms, too...they were exceptionally clean and an attendant was constantly checking them (we tipped her at the end of the weekend, she did such an amazing job at the ones we used). They're regular bathrooms, too...with actual doors instead of stalls, sinks, soap, towels, etc.
did you get bleachers last year? i thought VIP area was the that hill to the left of the main stage. in 2006, there was a VIP viewing area (bleachers) but i didn't see any last year?
okay the restroom facilities may have sealed the deal for me. i remember they were clean, that was definitely missing from guest camping.
thanks for the info. i gotta ponder this one. 700$ is steep in a recession lol
700$ :o
Jesus, thats a lot. I figured it wouldve been like an extra 100$ or something. For that price, you should get all the food and booze you want, and your own golf cart to drive around the area with
Yes, bleachers at the What and Which stages last year. We also had the hill and there were two or three air conditioned tents scattered about, including at the main stage. Throw in much easier access to Centeroo (five minute walk and much less security hassle), real bathrooms and showers and it was money well spent.
And not that anyone would necessarily take advantage of this, but I was able to drive in and out a couple of times with no issues at all...once to meet my fiance and his sister for breakfast, and another to make a Starbucks run for everyone at our camp!

is anyone else upset about this?
YES!!!!
I would go if they were on the line-up, even if there will be lots of nasty Phish-heads around. To see MMJ, Wilco, and David Byrne all in one place would be fantastic. But since I've already seen Wilco, and I may have a cheaper and closer way to see Byrne, I'm not going to sweat with misery amongst some stinky half-dressed hippies.
Im upset you could not post your sadness in 1 of the 4 other Bonnaroo threads on the board

Since the Evil Urges tour is done they should go to Bonnaroo and use it as a way to play their older stuff. Give back to the fans that have been digging the sound from the beginning. That, and some killer covers!!!
i mean if anything, the festival should bring them inspiration, peace, love and harmony for their next album.
lol
and maybe some phycadellic experiences. :0)
Amen. Bring it on. My two favorite bands..... Phish and MMJ. That would make the Roo extra cherry on top.
I think they should play an acoustic set, Saturday afternoon, in That Tent. Like the bridge school, except way fucking better.
i will take anything, just play brothers play
QuoteI think they should play an acoustic set, Saturday afternoon, in That Tent. Like the bridge school, except way fucking better.
i mean that would be pretty cool, but if they where to go to roo, would you really only want them to play acoustic? I know i would be really dissapointed.
But yea, i was lucky enough to see them last year at roo, and it was by far the best show i have ever seen in my life. Just an unreal performance.

I saw them last year as well. I think it would be great to see them play an acoustic set. All the yay-hoos would leave if they didn't like that there wasn't metal to get crazy on. Just some hippies, and real fans. Don't get me wrong, the show last year was fucking amazing, 2006 was awesome, and 2004 was amazing (note: all adjectives are interchangeable)
Idk about all this acoustic only talk, but if they are at Roo... I will be too :)
I would love this more than anything, but I'm not getting my hopes up...

That's how I feel. Or Maybe a Jim and friends a la Dave. That would be pretty awesome.
I agree. My heart sank when I saw My Morning Jacket was not yet on the list. Last year MMJ was declared the kings of Bonnaroo, and I naturally thought they would be among the first to be asked back.
But, I can't imagine Bonnaroo ignoring a band that's been great for the festival. And I have to say, if MMJ goes to Bonnaroo, I could not help but think what I might miss. I'll be there with you guys, MMJ.
All the best.
I know they need to play and dig deep into their catalog!
whats up with this acoustic talk??? I want a nasty throwdown at 2 AM!
I have faith that they will be added to the lineup. There is going to be what like 4 to 5 more artist additions and Jacket is a Roo staple.
I'll be there either way. The lineup is too diverse and strong to skip out on this one, but my heart will be broken if I don't see Yim and the Gang tearin up some nasty funk covers! :'(

Well, I hope they make it back to Roo....it isn't the same without them. And I would kill to see them cover Led Zep's Rock N Roll to close their set.....they are the one band out there that can really pull this off!!

Two very nice guys let me on the rail to snap some pics, then I stood behind them for the rest of the set. In fact, I can see the top of my hat in the Bonnaroo '08 DVD!

I'm glad you guys see my point...any Led Zep song would kick ass(No Quarter would also be amazing)...I just figured it would be such a fun/rockin/up beat song to end the set. And we all know JJ can do it vocally.
I basically just want them to do this at Roo so I know I will be there to hear/see it 8-)

I could careless if they are a headliner I just want them there!! THEY ARE THE KINGS OF BONNAROO THEY GOTTA PLAY, THEY JUST HAVE TOO! I was at the concert last yr. from start to finish never missed a beat, never left to pee, never left because of the rain/cold my brother and I stayed all night! It was the most perfect night of my life and would just be absolutely beside myself if they played again! If I ever had to beg in MY LIFE - this is the time! So here goes:
JIM JAMES AND ALL FELLOW BAND MEMBERS IF YOU READ THIS PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLAY AT BONNAROO 09' PLEASE! I NEED YOU, THE STRAW HAT, THE CAPE, THE BEAR, THE CRAZY HAIR, THE RAIN, TYRONE, AND THE SHOELESS DRUMMER! I NEED YOU, WE ALL NEED YOU! YOU GUYS A THE GREATEST! I LOVE YOU ALL VERRY MUCH! ;D

Facing the stage, I was on the right...wearing a giant mushroom hat. Unlike the other 'Roo performances on the DVD, this one doesn't have a ton of audience shots and they also kind of fade in to other shots, so it's hard to spot people. I think we hit rewind and pause about a gajillion times before we caught two-second glimpses of ourselves. :)

I didnt even realize there was an 08 DVD. I know I saw 1 from a few years ago, but didnt realize they did 1 for every year.
Might have to check that out, especially if some on yinz all are on it :D

For future reference, I think it is clearer to refer to the sides as Side Jim and Side Carl. That leaves out all confusion.

Yeah, my friend Greg who was there with us has the dvd and I guess before they show them do 'm Amazed it shows the band talking about Bonnaroo and cuts to a clip of the audience, and he said you could see us rocking out. He said it's only for like, 1 or 2 seconds though. Still haven't seen it. 8-)

This will be the shizzzzz. Unfortunately, I typically like to roll out late Sunday afternoon....not this year. Depending on my state of mind ::) I may get a start after "the phish from vermont" (deer creek '00 anyone?...Moby Dick!) are done. What time do the closing bands usually wrap on Sunday?

capt-if i get back by monday morning, i don't have at take another vacation day. one phish show is enough for me....(actually that's one too many...ha ha)
I usually try to leave sometime on Sunday. However, this is usually because my bonnaroo experience rolls like this:
Me: Hey, who wants to go to ROO!
Everyone: meh
Me: It's worth it for the Jacket
Everyone: meh, we are superior
Me: Ok, forget it
[Fastforward to May]
Everyone: our tix came in. How about yours?
Me: What?
Everyone: yeah, we've got like 20 people going. This was your idea, and you don't have tix?
So then there are all these assholes who shit on my parade and then I'm sick of them by Sunday and leave, forcing them to squeeze an extra person or two into their Yaris.

Example: 2006 - I'm ready to go in a 2 car caravan from North Jersey when a friend calls, demands we go meet him in brooklyn, and put 4 people in a tercel with a bubble on the roof, drive to DC, pick up 2 more people, and then go the rest of the way, starting thursday morning.
We say no, so we leave Wednesday night and get a killer campsite. They show up Friday morning because surprise surprise this 15 hour trip somehow took 24 hours. They show up with 6 people who brought another car of 10 people. One of them was a schizophrenic who self-medicated the whole weekend. I spent Radiohead making sure he didn't wander off (I didn't know the kid) because his friends ditched him. He somehow got my phone number, wandered off, and called me to come find him. I was shroomin so I didn't. He woke up face down in peanutbutter in someone else's tent across the farm.
I missed superjam because of this situation too.
Also, he smoked all my stuff
And the worst part was that they all insisted in doing things together, which means our group of who knows how many had to all see the same shows at the same times or else it was drama.
THEY LEFT THE MMJ SET DURING OLDER GUYS and they got pissed when I refused to follow.
Karma bit them in the ass when that became Head Held High
Oh gosh. That is extremely frustrating!
QuoteOh gosh. That is extremely frustrating!
Other times, it was just a college thing. I was annoyed because I was that guy who listend to Widespread and stuff all during highschool and my friends made fun of me because I didn't like Eminem or Jay-Z. Then they all go to college, smoke weed, and glide around this great land talking about weed all day.
Now, it's just me and my love, and she's excited to go if we can afford it. That's how I like it.

chode that is so funny. last year i went w/a couple people, PLUS a random girl who i split the VIP package w/ from south jersey (who was also a self medicater) ..all she did was pop oxycotin the whole trip, hung out on shakedown street and proceeded to bring various wookies back to our campsite and then slept during the day thru all the shows. ha ha...sweet girl but wow, luckily i had my own wookie-free tent.
I've gone with a large group and I've gone with only 1 other person. Even when it is me and 1 other person, we always split up and go see different things. I think that is a healthy way to do it. Then you don't get sick of anyone too quickly. We would be together for the bigger shows, but that's about it. We would pick a time and meet at the bobble head on the west end if we needed to reconvene for something. Also, I've never agreed to go with someone who can't keep their shite together. I go to Roo to let go for a few days not to take on responsibilities. Once everyone is clear on that-its always smooth sailing. 8-)

i agree. i went to almost every show alone last year except for the bluegrass jam and MMJ (where i went alone and met up w/ghost, ghostess and ewok, which was random) even when i went w/my boyfriend, we would split up most of the time

not too much anymore. bonnaroo has become almost wookie free (except for some trustafarians posing as wookies to piss their parents off) if you venture out of the main site and head down to shakedown street, you'll see the REAL wookies; (of course the last time i saw this was 2006, could not find them in 2008) they are more like crackheads, not wookies.
i just heard that phil lesh said he would never play bonnaroo again (after being asked to leave the stage last year so they could set up for kanye's performance) this stinks cuz i was hoping the Dead would be added to the lineup? anyone else read this quote from Phil Lesh?

you might want to try the other (less commerical) festivals for the real wookies (lol). probably still a few but i guess being a wookie is not as lucrative as it used to be.

Kanye Sucks!!
I believe it was pre-arranged that Phil would stop playing in advance of Kanye's set. It's not as though he was on stage and was told he had to stop playing during a performance.
I think The Dead may show up at Rothbury, but given Bonnaroo's recent oddly-phrased announcement concerning headliners, I wouldn't count them out entirely for Friday night.

Pennylane, if it's WSP, we're gonna torch the farm...angry villager style!
I don't care for WSP at all and was kind of annoyed when they were disclosed as the big announcement last year.
The funniest thing happened to me in Milwaukee in November. WSP was staying at our hotel and the drummer (I think) was standing next to me at the bar. He ordered a drink and told the bartender to put it on his room. When the bartender asked for his room number, dude says "uh, uh, can I write it down?" and then gives me a weird look. I guess he thought I was going to show up at his room or something? LOL, if he only knew.

yea mmj defently made bonnaroo for me last year. Still cant get over how amazing that show was even in the rain. And kanye sucked.
I certainly don't think Roo needs MMJ to be awesome. It doesn't hurt though.
QuoteQuoteDidnt see this in here, but I just went to check on the Roo lineup and on that page they have an interview with MJJ from before their set last year. I think I might have seen this or part of it somewhere before, but cant remember

oh, never mind its the other way around.
Its dark in that photo, must have been taken long before Kanye's set began.
there should be a big addition added this week, right? or is it next week? i was thinking it would be the allman bros. i also thought of Blur. hmmmm

highly doubtful but i'd love it! i bet Jim will be down there though, hanging out and playing w/other people. (i'm hoping at least) if they're not in europe..
probably means nothing but on the ROO board: this just in

no clue if this is true or not, i find it hard to believe but my heart's been racing since i heard about it

Thanks for posting, Penny. There doesn't seem to be anybody that knows for sure, but it sounds like the radio station let something slip.
If they do add, when will they announce? Anybody?
I would absolutely love this of course. However, I'm not getting my hopes up based on one post. The fella who posted that on inforoo just signed up right before posting that. All of the rumors he posted were part of his first post on the board. So I kind of feel he's someone who made that account solely to post fake information a lot of people wanted to hear to get everyone's hopes up. But hey, we can still hope, right?!
And they always announce additions/events and such on Wednesday, so look for an update sometime tomorrow.
Please be true! :D
yeah i woke up this morning leaning towards my original thought--that they'll make up the euro leg of the tour and hit a random fest here or there but i don't think they'll do bonnaroo.
i agree..i was excited when my friend sent me a text last night and then checked the bonaroo message board---that post was probably nothing. sorry for getting everyone's hopes up

I'm still keeping my hopes up for a few spring/summer shows even if they don't play the Roo.
My guess is that they make up the Europe tour in the fall.

Ah, my mistake I didn't seen Penny's post. I only saw the inforoo post a bit before I posted that. Again, still not getting my hopes up. But GOD DAMN heres hoping this happens! There has to be some MMJ presence on the farm. I think were more likely to see Jim solo than an MMJ show.
BUT, if my wildest fantasies come true, and MMJ headlines friday night leading into Phish latenight, my life would be complete. Again, just my fantasy :D
i think the big act yet to be added is gonna be the Allman Brothers; that's my prediction---by mid next week;
PUBLIC ENEMY is the big addition? are you f-in kidding me? 2 years in a row let down.
Holy cow, what a relief! I can't afford much more travel!! Public Enemy. :-?
I don't understand why anyone was expecting a big addition other than some speculation about that oddly-phrased e-mail clarifying what dates/times Springsteen and Phish will be playing.
I'm thrilled with the initial lineup, and happy to see Ani DiFranco and Amadou & Mariam as adds.
QuoteHoly cow, what a relief! I can't afford much more travel!! Public Enemy. :-?
No offense to the people who are already going, but I am so glad the Jacket hasn't been added. I can't go, I don't want to go, and I am not going...so them not playing makes that decision/delima just go away.
However on a side note...I do believe Jim will be there possibly making guest appearance(s) with some folks. So that will be good for the people who are going.
I may be naive but I still don't think they're done with the announcements. The year Neil Young was there he wasn't announced until just a few weeks before the festival. Well I've got my fingers crossed anyways.
i can't wait to hang out with flava flav in the fountain at centeroo.

This is just the first round of additions, there are definitely more to come. I'm not holding out hope for any big adds, but I hope the Spiritualized rumor from a few months back comes to fruition.
Bonnaroo Music Additions:
Public Enemy
Ani DiFranco
Amadou & Mariam
Shadows Fall
Heartless Bastards
Tony Rice Unit
High On Fire
Passion Pit
Dillinger Escape Plan
Wailing Souls
The Itals
MURS
White Rabbits
Janelle Monáe
Hockey
Pretty Lights
still dissappointing--that was probably the last headliner addition
Quotestill dissappointing--that was probably the last headliner addition
Prince for Saturday would be the bomb. Or neil of course.
That's about as meh as it gets IMO for 15 bands being added. Public Enemy or Murs are probably the only ones Id even consider checking out.

Heartless Bastards are good. Been listening to them for a few years. I think Dan Auerbach (Black Keys) produced their latest album.

I've seen PE quite a few times back in the day, solo, with Anthrax, and with Sonic Youth. A very formidable live act, as good as any, and if the rumors are true, the classic It Takes a Nation of Millions album performed in it's entirety, with the almighty ROOTS crew as the back up band for them, then ROO' goers may be in for a real treat!!!

where'd you hear this? is this a rumor just for their bonnaroo set?
Now if this is true, IM THERE!!! :D
Not sure about Roo, but they did It Takes A Nation... in its entirety at Pitchfork festival last year, and in my opinion that was the highlight of the whole fest. They sounded great and it was fun as hell.
Did some research of my own... the PE/ROOTS It Takes A Nation performance will be the weekend before the ROO. Sorry.
The Roots launch The 2nd Annual ROOTS PICNIC!

Kid Cudi, Asher Roth & more.
Featuring a special performance by Public Enemy, who will perform
It Takes A Nation Of Millions To Hold Us Back, backed by Antibalas and The Roots.

Hmm...Antibalas Afrobeat Orchestra backing them too makes that sound even cooler.
Add in TVOTR and the Black Keys and I very well might be traveling to the other side of PA.
Ting Tings and Down dropped from the lineup. Pitchfork is reporting Titus Andronicus is playing, and Jenny Lewis' tour dates with Deer Tick certainly hint at a possible appearance (they're opening for her the nights before and after her 'Roo appearance). Yay!
Last time I was at Festival Pier for a show some dude was running around all stabbed up, so I called 911 and endured 15 minutes of a cop berating myself and the dispatcher for not knowing the cross street of "THE CONVENTION CENTER"
Just requested the days off for this. I have mixed feelings about the headliners but there are gonna be a ton of great bands there. Looking forward to seeing Wilco for the first time especially, along w/okkervil river, DBT and TV on the Radio. :)
the jacket NEEDS to play because erykah badu is playing
another hybrid "Tyrone" would be the best Bonnaroo moment ever
if MMJ doesn't play, JJ should just come and play w/Andrew Bird, Jenny Lewis, Lucinda, Wilco, Erykah, Decemberists, DBT, ----but i think the real shining moment would come w/his guest appearance w/Santigold or public enemy though. ;-)
One way or another, me and my bros are gonna be there, but being able to see MMJ there would be amazing. I've only seen them live once and I'm jonesin to see them again. I haven't lost hope in the possibility of them comin to B-roo 09, mostly because a) it's Bonnaroo (MMJ has missed it, what, a whole 2 times?) and b) unless I got my shit wrong, our boys haven't posted ANY shows for this year yet. We're talking about My Morning Jacket here. They play shows. It's what they do. So, let's just have a little patience and see what the good people at Bonnaroo AND MMJ can do for us and, hopefully, we'll all be very happy. On that note, however, MMJ or no, so far, Bonnaroo 09 looks like gold. Throw MMJ in there, and I say we all take a trip to Manchester for a little bit of heaven on earth...
well call me negative nancy but you can wish in one hand and shit in the other....see which one fills up first. they are not playing the roo. get over it, lets move on.
agreed. no chance they'll be at bonnaroo.
Quotewell call me negative nancy but you can wish in one hand and shit in the other....see which one fills up first. they are not playing the roo. get over it, lets move on.
youre for sure a negative nancy
thanks, the glass is always half empty. its too late for them to play
rumor is they are on hiatus for a while.
jim has decided to write and star in a sitcom about whiny drug band phans who don't get to go on t00r.
shouldnt there be another artist addition announcement soon?
none of the likes of mmj....probably just fillers and no killer. the poster for the roo is up and you would be insane to not put mmj on there. so is the mmj 2050 really coming true? cant remember the year but you know what im talking about.
don't even talk about that.
THE SKY IS FALLING!!!!
we will always have item 9.....
Well, like I said, MMJ or no, B-roo 2009 ain't lookin half bad. MMJ would be NICE, but not necessary for a totally kick-ass time. I disagree that it's too late for them to be added, though. I ain't holdin my breath, but they were still announcing some pretty decent acts until 2 weeks before the damn thing last year. That's just the way they operate. But, combine the lack of an announcement yet, absolutely no scheduled tour dates at this time, and the fact that they were on the road all through-out 2008, and I'd say it would be perfectly reasonable if they were to NOT show up for B-roo this year. Still... Another MMJ/Badu mash-up would have been the shit... I suppose I'll keeeeeeeeeeeeeeep dreamin...
And hell-the-fuck yes, we WILL always have item 9...
It feels weird that they're not playing this year though. I'll be going this year with a few friends of mine. Looking forward to Al Green and Booker T!
After going back and forth, i decided to sell my Bonnaroo ticket. In the end, the lineup just isn't that great to justify the $ and vacation days and i was really only looking forward to wilco (w/the ladies on this board) but since wilco are playing in brooklyn w/YLT in July, i'll get to see them.
Sass and ALady--we'll have to do the rails on another show, (ALady---for black keys if you come to forecastle:-))
Aw, penny! That's a bummer. Roo next year, maybe.
I'm still on the fence about Forecastle, but I'll be on the rail for the Crowes if I do go...
i know its a long shot... but main acts can be dropped for festivals just a couple weeks before the gigs... Aretha Franklin was dropped from Jazzfest and was replaced by Neil Young ;D
I'll still be a roo '09, I have to disagree with you Penny the lineup is really strong, 2 Phish Gigs, Wilco, Gomez, Al Green, NIN, Springsteen, Booker T and the DBTs(who I just saw at Jazzfest and they were phenomenal) David Byrne, Elvis Costello, Erykah Badu.. just to name a few that come to mind.... so in closing...you'z trippin sizzzzsta :D
i hear ya dude, but man....phish kinda sucks. too much noodling for this guy.
Quotei hear ya dude, but man....phish kinda sucks. too much noodling for this guy.
you dont like them, so it probably doesnt matter to you, but the recent shows from hampton did not sound like phish of the last 10 years. much less jamming, less spacey stuff, less "noodling". they just rocked out like they were in prime 1994 form.
are you high?

I might try justin.tv or ustream later. Other than that, I dont have any ideas
Just watched like 45 minutes of Gomez's set. I used to really like them and still throw on Liquid Skin or Bring It On every once in awhile, but man, does their new stuff suck.
I never got either of their last 2 albums but every song that I didnt know except 1 was pretty bad. They lost their quirkiness and edge.

From Relix......
Patrick Hallahan, the drummer for festival veterans My Morning Jacket who've held down the late night slot for years, attended this year as a fan with his wife. "I guess I'm taking this year instead of giving," he mused. Turning more earnest, he felt that "It's a very harmonious festival. Not to say that other festivals aren't but there's just a really special thing at Bonnaroo." He paused, looking for articulation. "This festival isn't any different than the festival I attended in 2003. The faces change but the spirit remains."

Here's a quick recap of my weekend: Grace Potter was worth the trip alone, She debuted a bunch of new music and I was completely sold. David Byrne was a close second. Santigold had a new backing band and put on a great show. Booker T and the DBT's was awesome. MGMT was overrated (I just didn't feel "cool" enough to be there, or maybe I was too "cool"?) ;D. Ben Harper's new band sounded really good (and covered Good Times Bad Times). Merle Haggard sounded as good as ever (Are the Good Tims really Over For Good really felt special). Saw Patterson Hood and The Screwtopians' debut (sounded like DBT). I did check out Cage the Elephant and it was the most energy of any set i saw all weekend (stagedives and crowd-surfing galore). I'm sure I'll think of more later .....................It's not the same without Jacket :'(

thanks, Leather! i watched Cage the Elephant online and i thought the lead singer's pants were going to fall off, he reminded me of iggy pop. i thought they were pretty good live!

I thought Penny was in the same boat as you and said they'd never pay to see a Phish show ?!(which I guess technically you didnt, but I couldve swore I remembering her being glad Phish was the last band playing at Roo when she was still going to go because then she could leave early and get a headstart)

I'm sure I'll think of more later .....................It's not the same without Jacket :'(
Their set was actually the last one that AT&T aired on sunday night, so I saw it, and I agree, it was awesome. The thing that amazes me is the album is just under 50 minutes I believe, and I know they played a couple covers and a couple of originals that arent on the album, but their show was nearly 2 hours. I still dont know why the opener, Karma to Burn, didnt make the album cut, I love that song. It just flat out rocks. I havent followed their setlists really, but I dont think they've been playing any BH&IC's songs, so I think Another Lonely Day in the encore was a bustout. And I absolutely love Serve Your Soul and kept waiting for it. After seeing them end the show with a 15 minute version of it, I dont know how anyone could be satisfied seeing Relentless7 and them not closing with that song. EPIC.
I def gotta get this boot! [smiley=vrolijk_26.gif]
QuoteQuoteQuoteJust watched like 45 minutes of Gomez's set. I used to really like them and still throw on Liquid Skin or Bring It On every once in awhile, but man, does their new stuff suck.
I never got either of their last 2 albums but every song that I didnt know except 1 was pretty bad. They lost their quirkiness and edge.
The only disappointing set of the entire weekend, mainly because it was just flat.
Paging Pennylane: sit down. I am a Phish convert.
I thought Penny was in the same boat as you and said they'd never pay to see a Phish show ?!(which I guess technically you didnt, but I couldve swore I remembering her being glad Phish was the last band playing at Roo when she was still going to go because then she could leave early and get a headstart)
Glad to see youre a convert! Im going to end up getting both shows, but friday night's is a MUST from the looks of it!!

Sass, i agree about Gomez. i saw their show a few weeks ago, they played whippin picadilly but none of the all time greats (here comes the breeze?)..most of their new stuff is bad...they've been in the US too long or something...
as for Phish--glad to hear it! i'm sure i would have enjoyed myself at the Phish show..i just couldn't justify making that trip for them to headline. i heard bruce was great (of course from people from NJ)
i also heard people loved DBT and booker but i also heard the sound was messed up...i heard also no one was at lucinda's set, too..heard lots of different things...

Sass, I too am a recent Phish convert. Never have seen them (shut out of ticketbastard a few months back), but my bf is super into them and I gotta say...I like it!! ;D
Still, they're no MMJ!!

Still, they're no MMJ!!
5-6 years ago I wouldve disagreed, but you're right.
What show(s) were you tring to go to?? If its Red Rocks, it'll probably still be hard to get a ticket without paying $150 or more, but outside of the Fenway Park and St Louis show (at a 4000 capacity venue), ticket prices are actually going down instead of up the closer you get to these shows. Pittsburgh lawns for the last week or 2 have been going for around $20 on ebay and not much higher on stubhub, Alpine night 2 seems to be approaching that the last few days. If it wasnt Red Rocks, Im guessing you were trying to go to either Shoreline or Gorge, and right now on stubhub Shoreline is going for less than face and Gorge $10 over face for either night.
I got shut out on everything (phish lottery, ticketbastard) for every show I tried to get, and while Red Rocks is a lost cause, if you actually want to go to any other show on the tour, you can still do it and in a lot of cases even pay less than face! :o

So you are a phan then?
I was wondering why you were all into finding out what they played for a soundcheck the other day ;D
easy, Capt! i appreciate any great musicianship and i like Junta, Billy Breathes, and even Farmhouse...my best friend since 1st grade is a phish head so i definitely have been EXPOSED to phish. i never got the whole 'travelanywheretoseethemcultfollowingwannabehippiesh*t'...that has nothing to do w/trey, and i even liked his first solo album (whichever came out around 2002ish?) although it didn't sound much different than Phish. they just don't sound any better to me than belle and sebastian or other melodic groups like that...that whole movement bothered me because i knew the type of kids that were following them, which probably biased me.. like i have posted many times before, i remember sitting in my dorm room (WAYYY BACK in the late 90s probably before you were born lol) listening to a 20 min live version of 'bouncin around the room' going..WTF is going on!!'...i thought, 'haven't these kids heard of this awesome brit pop movement going on?' like i said, i never got it...but i appreciate it and i'd love to see them live..just not headlining bonnaroo!! that said, i grew up on songs like 'if i could' and 'fee' so i definitely like Phish, i just don't GET it. i like a lot of stuff i'd never go apesh*t over :-)
everyone that came back from the ROO said that they made references to the Stones or U2 for next year, also Jay Z will be touring...hmmmm
Quotegoing to be pretty badass to see trey trading licks with the boss.
Quotethe boss will never share the stage with trey's shitty ass....
;D epic phail.
look at all the phish n00bs coming out of the closet now. ::)

I am hardly a Phish noob though. ::)

Although somewhat panned at the time, maybe since it came right after 1 of their best albums Story of a Ghost, Farmhouse is a great album (although I really dont like a few songs on there like Dirt, Bug, and maybe another). I love probably half of Billy Breathes, but I still dont get why people who dont
love Phish always name it as 1 of their favorites. Most accessible I guess?? I think Farmhouse could fit that label though too.
And Im pretty sure there's never been a Bouncin Round the Room over 6 minutes ;)
right on, it was meant as a joke.
i think it's cool they are getting a little more love around here. too much h8 before.
they dominated 'roo.
i saw patrick throwing glowsticks during h00d.
I thought it was funny when Bruce called Page "Keyboard Player"... ;D Some guy next to me said "Bruce probably doesn't know the name of his own keyboard player..." ;D I thought it was so funny at the time.

i think a lot of people don't love it because there shouldn't even be a 6 min version of bouncin round the room ...JK...FLUFFFHEADDDDDDD.....sorry..sorry...i really do want to see them live someday.
i just need to be sooooooper stoned.

That really was funny. Heyyyy, Keyboard Player! ;D
I thought Bruce kinda Bonnaruined the second Phish set; it disrupted the flow, and did we really need to hear "Glory Days" two nights in a row?

I thought based on the setlist I saw Glory Days closed the first set??
If you read my post in the Phish thread, I thought everything setlist wise looked fantastic except that 2nd set on sunday.
"Glory Days" did close the first set. The Bruce songs sort of felt like an oddly timed interruption of the first set, which hadn't really got going yet at that point.
Friday they played without a set break and that was a much better set overall.

I liked it. That Mustang sally was good, plus when is that ever going to happen again?
I think that "keyboard player" comment was a reference to something Bruce says in another song of his.
I thoroughly enjoyed both sets...and I wasn't soooooper stoned. Or stoned, period. ;D

Hopefully never? ;D Sorry, just wasn't enthralled with Bruce's performances either night. I've enjoyed him in the past, just wasn't diggin' him at Roo at all.
Heyoooo.....
Some great shows on etree from Broo.
