Who's coming to visit me in Chicago for a two-night stand?   ;D  I might even break my no-DBTs rule and go with you...   :D

i can't afford either but i'm pondering a visit to you for those shows or visit to soulshine for the 2 denver shows!

if i come to chi-town, will you get on the rail with me and endure patterson's lisp spit?

Lord, I have been spit on by Patterson more times than I care to count.

Wait, that sounds bad.   ;D

I'll do you one better, we'll get a swig off that handle of Jack.   ;)

I've done my time with the DBTs.  Really no desire to see them anymore and don't care for the newer records at all.  Though it was great fun while it lasted...   ;)

I'm in for the 2 Chicago nights.  Can't wait to here the new record.

Post on DBT forum sounds like the band going to cool the jets for a spell after this year.  Well deserved in my opinion.

yeah I would think- they've ben going non-stop. My wallet could use a break, too--13 shows.
Hardest working touring band..

So this is a band that had passed me by for whatever reason, but from the amount of folks here that love em I feel I need to check them out. Any recommendations on where to start?
Title: Re: Drive By Truckers Go Go Boots Tour
Post by: ALady on Jan 10, 2011, 05:39 PM
Ideally a bootleg...but as far as studio albums, I like Southern Rock Opera.  Though it can be a bit daunting if you're first getting into them (it's a double album) it's got a lot of their "hits".
Title: Re: Drive By Truckers Go Go Boots Tour
Post by: walterfredo on Jan 10, 2011, 05:40 PM
I think I may try and make one of the fillmore shows.  I've seen them twice so far, the first time I just couldn't get past patterson's seemingly over exaggerated southern twangy accent.  It drove me nuts!  It was at high sierra music festival, I left and went to watch something else.  The second time was at the first Outsidelands fest, where I enjoyed them much more than the first time.  I think I would like to see them again and give 'em another chance.

Decoration Day or The Dirty South...I'd ease my way into SRO like ALady says, it's something alright..

Nah, head first is the only way to go!!!! Southern Rock Opera it is! If my head explodes so be it..... ;D

Dirty South and Decoration Day are both fantastic, no doubt...but a little Isbell-heavy, which makes them kind of misleading as an entry point IMO.

ralph, no matter where you start, you'll be able to tell right away if you'll dig them or not  ;D  As fredo noted above, Patterson's voice is a bit of an...acquired taste.

that's why i love those two, they're Isbell heavy :-(
also they have 3 singers at any given time, give it a chance, ralph..
i can't wait for Jason's new album

Those are probably my two favorites, to be honest.  When I was first getting into DBT someone made me a mix and it was all these Isbell songs...and I was like "oh sweet, this is gonna be awesome" and then he left the band   :D  Doh!

dave i'll never forget the sincerity in your voice when you said coming to NYC for the T5 chaos was one of the greatest decisions you've ever made.

it meant alot to me because i came all the way to NYC from Tokyo, Japan and I echoed your sentiment 100%

Still stand by that statement. Dont think a day has gone by since I got home that I havent had at least one thought about that 10 days in October last year.

Traveling for music? The best fucken thing ever...!

@ralph - if you want some specific track suggestions, check out what the DBT faithful say: http://gorankem.com/artists/21614-Drive-By-Truckers (http://gorankem.com/artists/21614-Drive-By-Truckers) love the fact that 'zip city' is on top...definitely not their most popular, but one of the live favorites

Well, it's finally happened. Southern Rock Opera kicked in and I'm obsessed. It only took a few years to get it. I tried and tried to like the band, I really did, and it never happened until now.

In the end I bought The Dirty South and ordered Southern Rock Opera.

Um, so when the second guitar kicked in on the right speaker during the final solo on the first song on The Dirty South I knew this was a keeper. So that took 5 minutes...

And in what may be a sign, I got the booklet for Decoration Day instead of TDS booklet so I probably should just buy that as well.

Sorry to be that braggart--if any of you are ever thinking of going to this, it's like the Terminal 5 week for DBT. It was the most fun I've had since T5 or hometown show weekend. The band were hanging out all over town, Athens is one of the coolest places ever. 3 great nights-epic rock shows...I'm still coming down. I really love the south. Free refills for everything, tator tots, fried chicken, 2.50 yuenglings....

:D   Awesome photo Penny!!   Read the blogs on the dbt forum and it does seem to be a T5 for dbt fans.  might have to  make the road trip next year.

so did you marry that bartender, just get engaged or just the normal friendly PL "i like all humanity that like the music i love"

Any chance you can talk to MC and PH and get them to do a bunch of T5 shows in the near future?  I hated to miss nye at t5.

ha ha..no luck with the bartender---
i was too busy taking pics of his shirt and texting them to Ruckus
this is such a cool thing to do if you're a truckers fan, the band is so accessible, it's surreal, all over town you keep running into other trucker fans
they played the new album on Night 1 then launched into an incredible encore (set 2)
the other 2 nights are fuzzy...ha ha...
i'm burned out on them, though---don't know when/if i'll see them again on this tour unless they add a Tipitinas 2 night show..i've always wanted to see MMJ or DBT play there. Have fun in Peekskill!

Going to see them tomorrow night at a new place in town (Pensacola, FL).  Capacity is only around 350.  I saw them about a year ago and was a little put off with how much Cooley showed his ass.  Looked like the rest of the band didn't care for it, either.   Anyway, really hoping and expecting a different vibe tomorrow!

Hey!  Yep, I'm here.  Well, Gulf Breeze.  Born and raised.  I've bounced around here and there but always knew I would end up back here.  Two months, huh.  Long enough to know the music scene here is pretty dismal, at best.  Do you have any hangouts yet?  I imagine I'll meet some buddies at Hopjacks beforehand.

so far i like hopjack's and blazzues is a pretty good spot to grab a drink down there as well.. i live over by the civic center in east hill so i tend to stay in the downtown area when i go out. yeah the music scene is pretty tame but vinyl music hall is at least trying to bring in the big names and a wide variety (robert randolph, edwin mccain, nappy roots, perpetual groove) i'll be down at hopjacks at around 7ish (gonna pick up my tickets from the will call).. you can find me flyin solo wearing the "blazin challenge survivor" shirt from buffalo wild wings.. yes i completed the wings challenge during the steelers/jets game on sunday and my bowel system is still in a tizzy on tuesday.

I'll keep my eyes peeled for ya.  Not sure what I'll be wearing.  Probably a jacket- that should help narrow it down.  ;D  I'll probably be with a few other guys and maybe some significant others, not sure.
I'm familiar with BWW, but not the wings challenge.  Looking forward to hearing about that.

What a show!  They played "Putting People on the Moon" second, I think.  Anyway, completely blew the roof off of the place.   Slowed down a little in the middle while playing some of their new tunes that people were unfamiliar with, but ended pretty strong.  I couldn't keep saying to myself, "i fucking love rock and roll".   8)  Awesome night.   Good meeting and meeting up with JT.  Good times.  I know 5am came early for ya this moring.  Hope you're hanging in there!

Here are some pictures for ya, Penny. http://www.gopensacola.com/apps/pbcs.dll/gallery?Avis=E6&Dato=20110127&Kategori=GOPENSACOLA08&Lopenr=101270801&Ref=PH (http://www.gopensacola.com/apps/pbcs.dll/gallery?Avis=E6&Dato=20110127&Kategori=GOPENSACOLA08&Lopenr=101270801&Ref=PH)
Futurebirds were pretty awesome, as well.  I wish I would have seen a little more of them.

JT-I got in around 1:30 and woke up at 6ish to my son sliding into bed with me and asking if I want to watch cartoons with him.  There's really only one answer to that question.  So much for taking the day off.  I have no doubt my wife put him up to it.   ;D

I have never really listened to this band, no particular reason why. Even saw them at a festival once and they seemed pretty good.

Where should I start? It seems that Brighter than Creation's Dark, The Big To-Do and A Blessing and a Curse are all available through my local library consortium, love the f-ing library.

Also I didn't see anyone post this link but their new disc is streaming here:

Tonight's the Night.  Haven't been this excited for a show since MMJ at T5.

I already know tomorrow is gonna require a couple of extra cups of coffee.

I am by no means a diehard fan, and it took me a while to "get" them, but it started with the first half of The Big To-Do, and then like a 4th or 5th try of Southern Rock Opera

Now I'm obsessed with Southern Rock Opera but haven't really gotten into whole albums otherwise, just a few tracks off each.

I think it's hard to pick one track off SRO because it's supposed to be one long thing "obviously"

So, now, I"m going to put on their other albums to see if the click

I am by no means an expert, but I would recommend "Decoration Day" to start.   Southern Rock Opera is of course very, very good.  But it's a doozy. That would be the only reason I would suggest DD over SRO.  Just a little easier to digest and listen from start to finish.  Personally, I don't like listening to a track or two.  I am definitely an album person. If that doensn't matter to you, you really can't go wrong with either.

Now I'm going to get in over my head.  But, pretty sure there has always been three songwriters it just a matter of who the third is.  Jason Isbell wrote some (damn good) songs but he is no longer in the band.  Now, his (ex-wife, I believe) is the the third songwriter.

No problem.  I may be talking out of my ass on some of that so hopefully someone will clarify.

I also meant to put in a plug for Napster.  Not sure who uses it or not.  It isn't the Napster it used to be.  It is now a legal subscription service.  $10 a month and a huge selection of music.  You can listen over anything that has an internet connection, including iphone.  Only problem is that you can't download it. Only stream it. Still, I'm a big fan of it.   I highly recommend it for any music lover, which is basically everyone here.

I refuse to support any streaming service on principal that (a) it justifies their (the Industry) belief that fans are not supposed to own music and (b) if I'm going to pay to stream, I'm going to pay it to a station like Soma that gives me the value-added benefit of a human who knows music curating a playlist to make it flow

Fair enough on the first point.  But, on your second point,  I don't use it to stream radio, although you can stream "mixes" on Napster.  But, you can also listen to anything you want whenever you want.  Create your own mix of exactly what you want or listen to any album you want at anytime.  That is what I like about it.  I still use Pandora if I just want a mix.  But, when you want to hear something specific, Napster comes in handy.  For instance, JY can go on there right now and listen to any DBT album he wants as many times as he wants, then move on to something else if he wants.

My issue is more of a philosophical point made by the industry. I've met with some guys from sony, because this method of music distribution is the primary means in Latin/Central America where more people are web-connected through their phones than PCs. Basically, if they can't force customers to re-purchase the content on a new format every year, they want to move to a format where no one owns the music. It then becomes a licensed use instead of a purchased product, and the Industry is free to revoke access and play around as they see fit. I don't want to give them my money to encourage that, especially watching the battles surrounding Hulu and streaming content.

But here I go, HiYYacking the thread again

As others have mentioned, SRO is considered a classic and is a good starting point.  Decoration Day and Dirty South would be too.

Off to go see them in a couple of hours.   8)

i went to DC this past weekend to see them and Friday night there was this asshole in the audience terrorizing people, groping women, etc my friend posted about it on their forum word of mouth from the forum to the band spread and on Sat he got an email from Patterson personally apologizing and offering to put him and his wife on the guest list for any shows on the upcoming tour..then Sat night Patterson went on a tirade about the guy during the intro of one of their songs. they are truly awesome people...i think everyone needs to watch that movie

But here I go, HiYYacking the thread again

sorry been away from the forum for a few days..

well you can always start in chronological order BUT johnny knowing your tastes, i would start with my favorite albums (the Jason Isbell years) Decoration Day or The Dirty South--those are the most melodic..Southern Rock Opera was a huge undertaking and a lot of people's favorites..you have to go through these albums slowly..there are so many nuances..Patterson likes to write more about people he's known in real life (Living Bubba, careless, 18 wheels, bulldozers and dirt, sands of iwa jima--pretty much every patterson song) is written about real people, either friend or relative or historical figure (bear bryant, george wallace)...DBT are a history lesson combined with the grittiness of trailer parks and prostitution and bootlegging--They had cooley and patterson writing, then Jason was brought in, then when Jason left (he and shonna divorced), shonna has been writing songs for the past 3 albums..(and singing)...so i guess my recommendation is to not take this lightly, but when you listen to the songs, look especially at the lyrics and note which songs are Pattersons, Jasons, or Cooleys..start with The Dirty South, then Decoration Day, then SRO---after that it's up for grabs. Headhunter LOVES the fine print--which has some awesome songs..i'm by no means an expert, there are people on this forum that know more than i do--i really just love what this band is doing, i love how they treat their fans, i love how the tours are set up so you can travel to see them, i love how they work hard and appreciate their fans and each show is 3 hours plus/with at least 30-35 songs.

just saw secret to a happy ending. i want to be friends with these guys.

i went to DC this past weekend to see them and Friday night there was this asshole in the audience terrorizing people, groping women, etc my friend posted about it on their forum word of mouth from the forum to the band spread and on Sat he got an email from Patterson personally apologizing and offering to put him and his wife on the guest list for any shows on the upcoming tour..then Sat night Patterson went on a tirade about the guy during the intro of one of their songs. they are truly awesome people...i think everyone needs to watch that movie

that is awesome. yeah pat just seems like the nicest guy ever. even the recent emails about the pre-orders being late are just so cool. not many bands would do this. thanks for the free ep dbt!

i had to last-minute back out of the peekskill show last thursday. i STILL haven't seen them live.  :(

DBT has moved into the top-tier of my favorite bands along with MMJ and Wilco and their live shows are nothing short of spectacular.  I am just learning more about their earlier catalog but I think their cd/dvd combo of Austin City Limits is a great place to start.  SRO and Decoration day are great albums but watching the dvd and getting to appreciate the full story-telling of 18 Wheels of Love and Let There Be Rock and Space City-- you should really try to get into this band.  MMJ is still the best for the musical jamming and space out melodies and Jim's voice is 2nd to none imo but as for rocking out and storytelling, dbt is at the top of the heap.  Haven't met any of them but at their live shows they seem like real regular people and Penny has met them and raves about how regular they are.
I do like the Fine Print but their new album Go Go Boots is an awesome approachable starting point and just work back from there.  The Dirty South has some killer tunes and I can also fall into Bright Than Creations Dark and get lost for awhile.  Try these guys out if you haven't get.  Between DBT and MMJ it's like getting a combo of steak and lobster tales.  Along with some red wine and whiskey.  All good.

I agree 100% People who say there is no good rock music today are not familiar with these two bands. So very similar in many ways, but VERY different in most others.

Funny! A year ago I would have been fairly excited about this, as I have been a Neil Young fan for about 40 years, since childhood. I always thought he was the reigning king of rock and roll. I have to say, his followers , in my opinion, have surpassed him musically. The 2 bands I discovered, and I think have more to offer, are of course MMJ and  DBT.

Dont mean to thread jack, but I've listened to at least half of Drive By Truckers extensive discog and have yet to find the thing that hooks me with these guys. Its weird, based on a lot of my musical taste, youd think I loved these guys. Also I did some street team work for ATO and got free tickets to a DBT show last time they were in louisville and didn't go because I had an exam the next day. I regret it now because I hear they put on a hell of a show.

and I want to add on I have a few promo posters from ATO and maybe some stickers left if anyone wants em. They arent great, but if you want one I have many and about 12 poster tubes laying around and you could PM me an address.

no bad blood with jason.  he still shows up and plays with them from time to time.  penny saw jason show up at a dbt show earlier this year in athens.

love the lyrics to that song  (and many many other dbt songs)  Also love the lines from  from cartoon gold on GGB.

"I'm not good with numbers
I just count on knowing when I'm high enough"

and

"Getting all excited finding nothing that was never there before
Is like bringing flowers to your Mama and tracking dog shit all over the floor
Jesus made the flowers but it took a dog to make the story good"

you should get tix for the wellmont show---in june..
this may be your last chance to see them for a long time..they've been touring for 2 years and will be taking a long break after this tour :-(

oh and PS--i wasn't lucky enough to see Jason's only performance with them (as far as i know the ONLY post departure appearance)--it was the Huntsville show back in late Jan---and it was someone's bday--(the tour mgr?) that caused Jason to jump on stage.  i think assholes might be calling out the industry or record companies--no bad blood amongst the band and Jason..

Got tickets for Pittsburgh, this will be my 3rd time seeing them. Excited to see them as the headliner this time around, saw them open for Tom Petty once and saw them with The Hold Steady on a co-headlining tour where they alternated.

should be no debate.  DBT live is a special thing.  After MMJ, there is no band that I enjoy live as much as DBT.  Just ahead of Wilco.

I might skip it. The douchbag hipster and brah level will be in the stratosphere that night. That idea of being surrounded by people who are there for the scene vs the tunes doesn't sound appealing. Plus it will be crowded. Not sure I really want to deal with a large crowd. I think I'm turning into an old man  :-\

Alright, I will very likely have a spare ticket to the Drive By Truckers show in Portland, ME at the State Theatre (site of the greatest MMJ show ever!), with Jessica Lea Mayfield opening.  You can have it.  Maybe just buy me a beer.

Its Friday, Nov. 18.  I've tickets in hand.  Doors 6:30, show 7:30.

<  PM or email.

Sounds good to me, as I sport a quote from the film.

Hey, ALady, that your purty face I spy in between songs in a 2009 ep. of Austin City Limits with Drive-by Truckers?  Watching it for the first time tonight.

Anyone else in for any of the DBT New Year's run at the 9:30 club in DC?  I'm definitely going the first night due to the double-bill with Lucero, and considering New Year's Eve as well.

I wish they would pull out something cool for New Years like a performance of Southern Rock Opera in its entierty.

i'll be there all 3 nights! i can't wait...and yeah, everyone's been hoping for years they'd do SRO in its entirety...when Patterson was asked about it last year, he just laughed and said probably not..

Shonna's Statement

Hello friends,

Unfortunately, I come to you all with some sad news.

It's time for me to move on to the next great thing, whatever that may be.

I want to thank each and everyone of you, with my whole heart for your overwhelming kindness and support over the years. You are the greatest fans in the world! You really do amaze and inspire me. I can't express how much you all mean to me. Your rock solid encouragement has carried me through, many nights. I have been so lucky to have had the chance to meet and talk with so many of you. Your stories and passion are so incredibly inspirational to me.

I am, without a doubt, not done. I will have a website up and running very soon so that we can keep in touch. I have a whole lot left to say and do, and I can't wait to hear what all of you are up to. This is very difficult, so I'll leave you with this... for now...

Thank you all so much!

Safe travels and Happy Holidays to you all!

See you soon somewhere...

All my love,
Shonna

Her statement is up on three dimes down. It's official.  I for one am sad. DBT carried on after Jason Isbell left and is still one of the best live bands out there. They will move on but I enjoyed her as part of their shows.  Tough for any singer, even a bass playing singer like Shona to be third behind Patterson and Cooley.

Wishing her the very best.

These are all good points.  I respected her for having the guts to write songs in that band as well, even if I didn't care for the songs too much.

Really fun three-night DBT stand in DC, and fun to see Penny Lane, Tired Eyes, and through them get introduced to the DBT forum folks.  Dave Barbee fit in very nicely on bass, and brought a nice heaviness and crunch to their sound.

I was a little shocked, though, at how many repeats there were when the band must have known that many people were going to all three nights.  For example, i can't believe I just saw three DBT shows and didn't get to hear Uncle Frank, Guitar Man Upstairs, Dead Drunk and Naked, Nine Bullets, Bulldozers and Dirt, etc.  Cooley in particular repeated songs all three nights.

Maybe losing their bass player had to do with the smaller batch of songs that were played, but if so that feels a bit lazy on their part to not have worked up a bigger reperotire.  Their songs are fairly simple all in all, it's not like they are Porcupine Tree or something.

Anyway, a great end to 2011.  I'm not sure if I will again be as fanatical about DBT as I was during the first half of the '00s, but they will always have a place in my heart and soul.

Great hanging with you, Jon! I thought David Barbe was always the 6th member, anyway...and  he slid in there nicely...feel the same way about Uncle Frank--but feel okay knowing i'll see it in a couple weeks down in Athens. Probably my favorite Cooley song after Zip City.

I needed that blow out weekend. What a fun crew and not to mention Lucero, J Roddy and Alabama Shakes rocking balz off...couldn't believe i rang in NYE with Booker T on keys, Brittany from the Shakes up there and Green Onions playing...Holy hell!

It sounded really good. I fell asleep about 10 songs in (I think I reached Women Without Whiskey)..noticed a lot of Cooley repeats from Night 1, which was strange. Sorry about the groper dude! Yeah, they are the most incredible band live--they give 110%, especially Patterson...one of the last true rock stars (other than he obvious)..Glad you made it out! He dedicated Girls who smoke to my friend Sarah in the front row..she was so happy.

You definitely have a certain type of man you are attracted to. Jim and Patterson are similar in looks. ;D

That's great that you made it to the show on Saturday Fully!  Glad you liked it.  How was the Bobby Keys Band?  I've never seen his band.
I still haven't seen DBT in Nashville...definitely something I need to change in the future.

good old boys with beards who sweat a lot, tell stories, fight for social change, and laugh at my jokes..is that too much to ask  ;) Patterson seems like he'd fit, Jim would dump me in a day if for no other reason than my passion for Ronald Reagan and red meat..

You might be living in the wrong area of the country to find many of those. However, I know quite a few of them around here.

I've only seen them a few times, but last night was far and away the best I've seen them.  They were in fine form (I love to say that), all seemed to be really enjoying themselves.  Lots of Cooley singing.  I was wondering if Patterson wasn't feeling well or trying to give his voice a little rest?  I didn't compare the setlist to any others, so maybe it's normal.   Just seemed like more Cooley than I remember seeing in the past.

Also, Penny... what's the story on their bassist?  He looks like a younger version of Cooley.  By younger, I mean about 12.  He had a grin ear to ear all night.  I told Tyler it looked like they picked some local kid to play with them and he was playing his dream gig.

Sorry Jon, just saw this...he's new to the band, not sure if he'll be a permanent fixture but looks like it..he's from the Dexateens! he's def got a perma grin and more of a rock-punk player than Shonna (who was more bluesy IMO)..

PS-headed down for the ATL show on Sat and for the Record Store day performance at Criminal Records..Patterson will probably play the anti-walmart song..can't wait...it's the last show on the tour.  :(

Bump.   While MMJ is on a temporary hiatus, you guys should rush out and see DBT live when they come to your town.  With new bassist Matt Patton, this band is at the top of their game.

I've been lucky enough to see them 3 times in the last week and each show was spectacular!

The last time I saw a band 3x in one week was back in December at The Capitol Theatre in Port Chester and we all know how that worked out.

Along with MMJ and Wilco (and yes Eric, Bruce & The E Street Band), there is really no one out there whose live shows do more for me.

Saw them last night in Baltomore with Mr Whippy and Manonthemoon.  Although this is only my second time seeing them, I thought they were really on top of their game and it was an outstanding show.  Excellent guitar work all around and a much tighter show than their 9:30 gig on NYE in my opinion.

Glad you all made it there last night (along with Tired Eyes)

Headhunter and I got to see them Fri and Sat and I was pleasantly surprised to be joined Friday but Ant and JoeyRogo and on Sat I spotted EL CHODE! Holy smokes! Yes an actual chode sighting...i don't even see him at Jacket shows.

This band is still at the top, I don't care what anyone says. Hardest working band in the biz and Jay is doing a great job filling in on the third guitar parts. I miss seeing Shonna up there but Matt Patten's a trip to watch  (and apparently a bad ass bass player).

Old 97's opening--don't get it, probably never will  :undecided:

Agree with you Penny that Jay did a great job filling in on guitar and played some wicked leads.  I liked the more sparse sound of the band with one less member.

I also agree with you on the Old 97's, I don't get it either, and it didn't help that they played for a little over an hour.

Also, I don't want to sound old and crotchety, but I really wish DBT would be a bit more punctual at their shows.  I really didn't need a show on a Sunday night (and one I had to drive an hour each way for) to run well past midnight.  This so often happens with DBT just due to them letting their openers play for a long time and then having long set breaks.  The crowd thinned out considerably during DBT's set, and I doubt it is because people weren't enjoying it, I just think it ran too late for many people.  They are an older band and their crowd is a bit older, and most people have jobs they have to get up for on weekdays.

With DBT I feel like the roadies set everything up and there is always still a long break before they come onstage.  On Sunday night the intermission was over 45 minutes, and I feel like it really sucked the energy out of the room and was I think partly responsible for what felt like the most subdued crowd I've ever seen at a DBT show.
Title: Re: Drive By Truckers Go Go Boots Tour
Post by: Penny Lane on Mar 19, 2013, 09:25 AM
Their sets definitely run long (yay!) but I think part of the reason the Old 97s played so long because this was somewhat of a co-headlining tour (although it didn't seem like it when I saw them). They normally start pretty close to start times and the openers usually get the 45-55 min. This was a weird tour because were billed different ways depending on whose site you were reading. Port Chester had them as openers but they played for a WHILE. Old 97s site has them as co-head so maybe that's why.

Sunday night shows are brutal, glad you enjoyed it, though.

Me, being the young and irresponsible one in the forum group at DBT in Baltimore, stayed to the very end. (You only missed 12 min., Jon)

But, yeah, on a Sun night they really owed it to the crowd to move things along - DBT could have started 30 min sooner and Old 97s could have played a lot shorter set.
Title: Re: Drive By Truckers Go Go Boots Tour

Baltimore was my last of 9 DBT shows in a row.  I agree that the set break was too long.  I'm sure it was the longest set break of any of those shows.  I wonder if DBT wasn't hanging out with their friends backstage and that's why they took so long to start.  I know they have friends in Baltimore.
I thought it was a really good show but not quite my favorite of this run of shows.  This was my first show at Rams Head Live and I didn't really like the venue or the surrounding area.  It seems very sterile and touristy to me.  Parking was 13 dollars after Port Chester parking cost a buck and Montclair was free.  I'm still very glad I went though as I saw a fine show and got to see some friends from this forum and the DBT board.  I also reconnected with a cool couple who now live in Pennsylvania.  We had met and hung out at the NYE show at the 9:30 Club.
I've seen worse DBT openers than Old 97s but I've also seen much better ones.  It was my 4th time seeing them on this run and I was already hitting my saturation point before last night's show.

Glad you enjoyed the show Bill.  I couldn't agree with you more about Rams Head and Power Plant Live.  It's an awful place that true city folk avoid and leave for the county kids, tourists, and well people that would want to hang out there.  I'm sure St. Paddy's day didn't help the atmosphere.  Regardless, I wish I could have made it!

Yep from the soundboard. If you go to www.threedimesdown.com (http://www.threedimesdown.com), they usually post the shows within day or two and have a set group of tapers. (This one came from BigTom AKA Tom Huster---a huge MMJ fan) He usually gets a lot of the northeast shows.

It means he set up his taping rig inside the soundboard's periphery, usually a good location for capturing live audio, but was using a couple of DPA 4022 mics on a stand running to a Sound Devices 722 Portable, High-Resolution Audio Recorder.  A soundboard recording would be coming directly from the board mix.

DBT hasn't allowed tapers to plug directly into the soundboard at their shows for years.

Luckilly you're married John!!! LOL

I actually enjoyed the Old 97's set, they stuck to Alive and Wired pretty much which is a good thing too.

The DBT's are rock-solid and for those who have never seen them I can see where it would be an exhausting set but they played for over 2 1/2 hours and were really really good.
