Title: MMJ Documentary
Post by: crailberry on Mar 18, 2011, 02:49 PM
I just got done watching 'This is NOT America', the documentary on mmj, and has everybody here seen it? I didn't see any discussion on it. What I was wondering was how long ago was it made? and when are the clips from? it was pretty rad

This was filmed in 2000 while they were on tour in Holland I believe.

Does anyone know where I might be able to get this Documentary?  The link posted doesn't seem to be working anymore and I would love to see this.

I'm the one who posted the link and upped it from my 'puter.  I checked it a few minutes ago and it said "temporarily unavailable."  I checked it a minute later and its good to go, so keep trying.  It will work.

this is probably my favorite band documentary, and it has nothing to do with the fact that it's mmj. it's a great doc about an up and coming band that for some reason has gotten more play time overseas than right here at home. pretty cool

thanks for the upload. great doc. jim working at a bagel shop? a chicago bowling alley gig  being the only non-louisville show to date? are you kidding? great job of catching a band just before they launched into phenom status.

anybody know what happened to jim's "woman"? he sure seemed to mention her alot.

Thank you so much for uploading this!!!! I can't believe they played Fireside Bowl in Chicago. This was prior to me hearing of MMJ.

Really puts their career in perspective, great documentary! Curious to know how many songs were inspired by Jim's "WOMAN".

Thanks Baxter!

This is great.  I didn't get on board with MMJ until Okonokos.  By this point they were already fairly established entertainers/journeymen/mystics.  It's really cool to see them before they were ANYBODY.  The interview time is intimate and honest.  Jim James in particular, I can totally see how this wide eyed kid from Kentucky became the Shaman he is today.  I mean this in the most endearing way, but he sort of comes across as a bit of a simpleton.  Not like stupid, but just simple, sincere, and calls it like he sees it even if it doesn't make any sense to him.  He doesn't really seem to have any grand ambition or scheme to him.  "Bagels are chewy, and filling..." that made me laugh all day.  Methinks this guy is truly a left-brainer.
[edit: no wait, right-brainer.  duuuhhrhrrr]
J. Glenn seems like a funny dude.
