er, not that anyone around here knows who i am. im curious what sort of seat this will get us - last time they played there (in the rain) i was center, about third row - and it was one of my favorite mmj experiences.
but why do they always have to play in the damn rain. :P

Oh yea, that monsoon was pretty freakin crazy, thankfully we got covering right before things got torrential, great condition for a MMJ show!

I do have a question for anyone who's been to the Bank of America Pavilion, what's the seating like? I've been to pretty much every venue in the area except this one! Is it all seats or is there general admission standing room in front of the stage? Basically I'm trying to get an idea of what advantages we have with the pre-sale.
FWIW, I have the audio of that show, which seems to have vanished from live music archive and the torrent sites. My first MMJ show!

Jim and the boys appeared pleased that we braved the tropical storm.

I was pretty far back for this show, my first. I seem to recall it wasn't very well sloped and the boys didn't use video screens, either. I'm pretty sure its reserved seating only, so it will benefit to use Roll Call.

yeah there's no PIT :(
i was at that monsoon show .. that was way before i ever met you guys :o
Hmmm.
This show looks easier for me to do than Alpharetta, and cheaper too.
I like the idea of diving up there Saturday after MPP. Anyone have any hotel suggestions close to the venue.?

There's a hotel right across the street from the venue! It's a lil fancy tho, I'm sure there are plenty of others in the area, it is Boston.

I just noticed that the RC email indicated an on-sale date of 5/18, but the website lists an on-sale date of 5/31. ???

Thanks. I figured there would be plenty of hotels , but was really looking for something near the venue and within walking distance.
That one looks nice as does the Westin Waterfront, but both a bit pricey. Looks like a trip to Priceline is in order. ;)
i'm on the fence for this. if anybody is driving back sunday night to nyc after the show that'd be awesome.
I'm hoping to go if I can get tickets through the presale. :)
i'd be all kinds of into going back to nyc directly after the show .. not sure if that's possible though.
i keep laughing at myself b/c i keep getting the dates mixed up .. thinking it's boston >> mpp and not the other way around. i keep talking about riding from boston to mpp but nay, it's the other way around. eric .. vice verse everything i said in the message i sent ya ;D

Sorry, guys, but Saturday is KaBang Fest in Bangor, ME.
My wife and I stayed at a nice place close to BoA last year, pricey but if folks want to double, triple, quadruple up, it won't be so bad and its right across the street. I'll try to figure out what it is. Otherwise, I might head home afterward (2 hour drive).
Looks like Roll Call PreSale for this changed from 5/18 to 5/31 overnight.
By the way, here are the prices as listed on Live Nation ($15.50 to $17.50 is fees!!! Motherfucker!)
US $30.00 - US $40.00
US $30.00 Ticket + US $15.50 Fees = US $45.50
US $40.00 Ticket + US $17.50 Fees = US $57.50
This event takes place rain or shine.
EDIT: This looks like the best bet and right next door.
Seaport Hotel and Seaport World Trade Center (4 stars)
1 Seaport Ln, Boston, MA, 02210 United States
866-539-0036
$200 (not bad if split 4 ways ;) )

I thought KahBang was that Saturday, but wasn't sure. :(
I'm really leaning towards coming up for this, and passing on Alpharetta.
I tried Priceline for 4 star hotels on Boston Waterfront, and got denied. I figured I would because I went low and all the ones I saw there were normally $200.00 -$289.00 per night. I'm going to up my bid tomorrow and try again.
I'll let you know when I get a bid accepted, for how much, and which hotel.
Last year a few of us got the 4 star Hyatt for Philly @ $100.00.

That might have been where we stayed, too. I was the REALLY drunk guy who bought 2 tall beers at last call from the hotel bar. If you were within 1000 feet of me, you heard me express my joy at my first MMJ concert. Damn lucky I didn't fall off the pier into the Atlantic that night. That was the last time I let alcohol run the show. I drink less now that I'm not smoking tobacco.

Hey Johhny I'm not taking any credit for the rowdiness the place was full of MMJ fans and you know how they roll  I don't remember it getting like that so maybe it wasn't the same spot though. I won't forget that that deluge though, the rain was crazy.
Montreal is where I caught my first show so its seems fitting to come "full circuital" - right back in the same place I started out! But I think its either Mtn Jam or Montreal and I'm still on the fence for which, will let you know. AAron is a Mainer these days so I think his sights are set on Kahbang.

Amazing, we overlap on 5 shows so far (Boston, MoF, Burlington, Portland, T5 EU). Definitely let me know what you decide; I'll be at both Mt. Jam and Montreal, plus Boston.

Thanks. I've been going back and forth so much between Georgia and Boston, I'm getting myself dizzy. ;) I finally pulled the trigger on Boston once I got a nice deal on a Waterfront room through Priceline.
I'm now trying to see if there's anyway I can do both.A Saturday show definitely helps, so keeping my fingers crossed. If I wasn't already booked to see Phish there next month, I would definitely be going to see MMJ in Alpharetta.

After a few low bids were denied, I got one accepted at the 4-Star Renaisance Boston Waterfront for $130.00. It's two blocks away from BoA Pav, and only a few minute walk.

if you're looking for a hotel in boston, keep checking travelzoo.com. They will have deals, and usually boston waterfront hotels are on the list since its a "newly" developed area for boston and they try to market it to get people over there.
I looked into that, but ended up getting a pretty good deal on Priceline.
After a few low bids were denied, I got one accepted at the 4-Star Renaisance Boston Waterfront for $130.00. It's two blocks away from BoA Pav, and only a few minute walk.
Now I'm thinking about this show. Are you going to be driving up Eric? Maybe I'll do this one instead of Charlotte - at least it's a little closer. ::)
Yes, I'll be driving.Plenty of room for one more. Let me know, because I was only getting one RC ticket, and if you want to go, I'll get a pair.
MPP/Friday - BoA Pav/Sunday = very doable. ;)
wow eric, and this after red rocks. you can sure log some miles for some good live music. power to ya, that's gonna be an awesome wkend for you.
I sure hope so, Jeff! ;)
Weekend is the KEY word. I couldn't do them if they were middle of the week shows. I'll be able to make up the day after BoA,and MPP Friday by working a couple of Saturdays.
Red Rocks will be my vacation, and really looking forward to that! Thinking about where to hang the poster already. ;D

Sweet, my Mt. Jam roomies! Jeff?
This is what the boys opened with last time they were in Mass, hell of a way to start a show, I certainly didn't expect it. Great version too. I'm hoping this show's opener will be equally memorable, wonder if it'll be one of the new tracks?
MMJ Steam Engine 08/25/10 Mountain Park MA (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KQn6yB17plQ#ws)
As long as Steam Engine shows up somewhere in the set, I'll be happy.
I'm thinking Victory Dance is going to open a majority of shows this summer.

That was fuckin crazy!!! I expected to get right up front, I ordered tix immediately when they went on sale and it said I'm in row U which is like 20 back. Then one second later the presale was sold out, I guess I got lucky? Damn johnny sorry, that's no good
managed to get row E, which looks like the 5th row. yay. :)
but yeah johnny, it sold out fast. i was shocked when at 1203 i returned to the main RC page and they were all gone already. that sucks dude, good luck at the general sale.

See you there YY. I got right in also and got row T.
Hang in there johnnyy, I'm sure they'll be some good tix available in the general sale.
There are always ticket dumps for this venue, generally 2-3 days before the show. I'm sure you don't want to chance it, but as others said, there will be good tix available for this show.
Tickets are back up now.
Jesus, what an ordeal! First they're gone, then back, then gone again. Scored 2 in Section 1 Row N. Thanks Eric!

I feel very fortunate to have gotten these after seeing some roll callers ended up with less than stellar seats.
good seats still popping up (section 3 row M)

If anyone is curious about their seats, just go to the livenation page for BoA Pavilion and click the find tickets link for any concert currently on sale (i.e. http://www.livenation.com/event/01004676D37389B7?artistid=989825&majorcatid=10001&minorcatid=1 (http://www.livenation.com/event/01004676D37389B7?artistid=989825&majorcatid=10001&minorcatid=1)). Wow, based on the interactive map, jahmazed's Section 1 Row D is front row! And with a few rows "missing", my row N is 10th row. Kind of like a building with no 13th floor.
No Row I or O in Section 1, 2, or 3, so you may be closer than you think!

That's very close to where I sat for MMJ in Sept 2008, although section 3 - opposite side and it was great.
I pulled Section 2 row A, amazingly. I'm very excited, a little embarrassed and guilt-ridden. Mostly, I'm just surprised to hear about the troubles and how quickly it sold out. I had ZERO evidence that there was any demand. I just logged in, bought, logged out. It was the most easy transaction for tickets I can ever remember and I came here expecting to see everyone with front row seats and signing the praises of roll call.
I got two pairs in Section 2, one in Row A and one in Row B!!!

No need for the guilt. Luck of the draw, and you drew well. Congrats!
If there were front rows to be had, I'm glad they went to folks from here. I'm happy with my Sec 2 row T on the aisle. Saved $ on fees and don't have to fret a general sale.
Section 3, Row Q, seats 6-7 pretty happy with those although woulda enjoyed pullin rows A/B.....should we start preparin the pregame action?

I tried the general sale just for fun. Nothing good, and I was right on it at 10 am. The "working" window that popped up said a 3 minute wait, so I knew that wasn't going to bode well. I was just curious.

Yup I did the same thing just to see what was out there. Nothing better than Section 2 Row U, which is what I got in the presale, so I'm pretty happy about it. Also glad to hear a bunch of other roll callers got Row T, should be a rowdy group in that area.

Any plans for a little pre-show festivities?
Hi all.
This is my first time here on the boards and this will be my first MMJ live show.
I'm very excited to have it be at the Pavilion. I've seen both Radiohead and Wilco put on two of my favorite concert experiences there.
I've heard nothing but great things about MMJ's live show, so I'm sure I'll be 3 for 3 at the Pavilion.
Welcome, booyamachine! BoA Pav was the site of my first MMJ show in '08 and will now be the site of my 12th Jacket show. Look here for preshow plans. Looking forward to it!

Hi guys! I'm all super excited because I -may- take a looong trip to Boston (I'm from Mexico) just to see MMJ, since a friend is living there.
Thing is, I figured it out a little late and as I guess you can see, most tickets are sold out, or scalped for ebay, so I was wondering if anyone here has some spare tix (need 2) willing to sell them at face value or a littttttle more; I don't want to cross the US all the way up to Boston to sit on the shittiest section on the shittiest seats :(
Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

EDIT: I just found out there's a specific area for this, amma cry ova there. Thx.
Coming from NY, never been to this venue before. Really looking forward to the show and trip. I decided to purchase Section 3, Row G, 9-10 even though the seats are 'limited view of stage' seats.
I checked several old blogs and sites for past shows with pictures and descriptions of seating and I never heard one person, or saw any pictures with a bad view.??
Is there anyone who has been to this venue and has sat or stood on either end in the very front and can verify the what kind of view there is.
is this the very end of the seating or am I missing something?

I really won't mind either way, we'll be just happy being there!
Can't wait for this!

Hi - I have been to this venue many many times and sat in just about that row last time MMJ came through. I was a bit closer to the center aisle and had NO difficulties whatsoever. I notice on the seatmap you aren't even the very end - there are 2 more seats after you. I think it was a smart gamble. I think you could lose the very back left corner of the stage (as you look at it) but I don't think there's anything to see there.
ps. there is a strip of concessions off to the left of the stage on the side of section 3 (through the "arch" on that pic you linked to) you are going to have 60 second round trip to the beer stand and back if you watch and time carefully.
I was noodling around the Live Nation site and see the MMJ show listed as "WFNX Presents My Morning Jacket". I'm wondering if we might be blessed with an on-air broadcast, such as we had for Chicago and Minn. I'll do some digging and report back. Fingers crossed.

I figured that too last week and I even sent WFNX an email asking if they'd sell me a ticket because I'm super important ( ::)) or if they'll have some sort of ticket/meet&greet sweepstakes... I obviously got no answer ;D

You are smart to ask the question, because resellers play all kinds of games. If they DONT say BOX anywhere, then they should be the real deal - 3rd row center. The VIP refers to a seperate lounge area that you can enter prior to the show back by the entrance.... IMO not worth paying for but a nice little perk if you are buying the seats anyway.
Yeah I give a rats ass for the vip thing, I just want KILLER SEATS, LIKE K I L L E R A S S A S S I N seats. :D

My (unrequested) advice is that ticket prices will come down as we get closer. There are lots of seats in rows B and C and I just don't think demand is that high. Especially since most of us fans got seats through Roll Call. If you have a great deal or you just aren't price sensitive and want to lock em up, go for it! But if it were me I'd hold out a bit.
Unrequested but valuable advice. You really think prices might come down? This is the first time i'd be using these ticket resellers and have no idea about how prices may be affected with time, I thought they'd stay frozen right where they are, I even fear I'll see them getting steeper and steeper week by week.
If you know about this and how sales behave, I'll listen to you and WON'T blame you if something worse happens! haha
When the show gets closer, and people get more desperate to sell, the prices will lower
There are a few 3 night runs on this tour, and BoA happens to fall on night 3 (after travel from Maryland to Bangor to Boston). I hope the boys are well rested. It looks like they are doing another 3 night stretch a week before too.
I know they are professionals and will bring it every night, I just want them as fresh as can be.

yes - I think prices will come down. I watch a lot of resellers for shows around here all the time (I think in another life I would be a broker) and that's my guess. It isn't always the case (see: Eddie Vedder) but you can tell show by show. There are a LOT of tickets floating around in rows B, C, and D. Who is going to buy those for big bucks? Do what you feel most comfortable with, but I'd wait.

My "worst" show I've seen - and that's not even the right word, say "least great", because I love em all - was Boston Sep 08. I thought our boys seemed really tired that night, and noticed that was the 3rd day of a 3 day run. So this is my worry too. Still, nothing we can do about it so I'm trying to let it go.

Yeah, I'm wondering if Bangor, being a festival, will be a bit lighter (not that I want to take away anything from anyone going to that show :'().......and then they'll be nice and rested for Boston. And, they have a day off after Boston, although they have to travel to Detroit. Red Rocks will be a good comparison, as that is the 3rd night of 3 night run as well.
As long as they keep playing sets like they have been for this leg, I'll be a happy man. They have a two week break heading into August which makes me wonder if they'll switch up their sets a bit for then 2nd leg.
I'm all set.
Room booked, Roll Call tix at will call, and just booked an Amtrak train Newark N.J - Boston South Station. Figured I'd give the car a bit of a breather with MPP Saturday and Philly a week or so later.
Any other Jersey fans thinking of doing the same? I'm on Amtrak NE Regional # 160 leaving Newark at 8:27 am on 8/14, returning Monday, NE Regional # 137 leaving Boston at 1:40 pm. $49.00 each way.
Really looking forward to the show and a nice pre/post show get together.
Semi set here, I just bought my plane ticket MTY-BOS! :D
I'll be enjoying free chauffeur service and free accommodation from a friend.
We're just waiting to see if the reseller tickets drop prices or not. But I'm finally going to see MMJ live. :D

So, foomex, let me get this straight. For your first MMJ show, you're travelling from Mexico to Boston? Care to fill in some details? Granted, MMJ hasn't been to Mexico but once that I know of, but surely other venues are closer. Are you expat, have family/friends in Boston? I hope you score good seats and can hook up with fellow forum folks preshow. Me and the wife will be there.
A friend of mine went to work to Boston last April for an indefinite time, practially to live there, and I was eventually gonna go visit her.
Originally I was gonna wait for a Houston date (much closer drive/cheaper plane ticket, and my sister lives there), and while looking for the Houston date which is not even mandatory for them... I saw Boston. I had vacation days from this year so I just called her and asked her if she'd be there in those August dates and well, it rounded up perfectly.
She hasn't heard MMJ ever I think haha, but she's more of a "I'll learn the setlist and enjoy any concert as long as you promise it rocks"... so this is a promising concert/trip, plus, I ADOOOOORE the US, I don't even know why, I just love it, I've been in a couple of places and well, I just adore it, especially when I go to concerts (Foo's in Houston, Ben Folds in Houston, Fiona Apple in Philadelphia)...
We can't seriously wait for this trip, I'll be there for a week and we're planning on some huge gastronomic tour, (we're compulsive food lovers and we found out Boston is a great place for it!), she's rounding up the tour taking note of the "Man vs Food" Boston episode! LOL... oh lord, and then I have the balls to ask why TF I'm fat.
I'll keep visiting here to see if the preconcert hangout happens, I've never done the board thingy, even with the Foo postboard where I have hanged for 10 years now :S
I'M EXCITED!
hey folks,
just wanted to remind everyone that this show will be fun,

that i am quite excited. :)

Agreed they might have been a bit tired that night, but it just speaks to how incredible this band is that your "worst" show had a Magheeta opener and Cobra in the encore! Can't wait for this time around!! The day is coming...

I work right next to the Pavilion and the anticipation for me is through the roof. 3 weeks?
Where's the love for this thread? Had to bump it up as it'll be my first concert ever in Beantown, and saw it had gone a whole week without a single post. ;)
Any pre show plans in the works yet?
I don't know much about the area other than the hotel we're staying at, but I'm definitely up for some suggestions for dinner/drinks.
I live in Boston so I'm just gonna wing it, but there's a bunch of places to go down there. If you're looking for a taste of good local seafood go to Tia's on the waterfront, it's a little pricey but worth it. I'm getting so pumped for this, expecting a killer set list!! I know they're coming off two shows in a row, but they'll still bring the energy they usually do out here.
Just to get our energy flowing in the Boston direction...here are some images from the area (from an old post) http://www.mymorningjacket.com/forum/index.php?topic=7653.0 (http://www.mymorningjacket.com/forum/index.php?topic=7653.0)
I think New Pilot is talking about Easter Pier II and The Seaport Grill:

There is also new museum not far from the Pavillion called the ICA: http://www.icaboston.org/ (http://www.icaboston.org/) I am not sure if people are into art, but it's right on the water and is a great place to view Boston & the harbor.

another images - hope it gets your juices flowing like it did mine
while on the deer tick boat cruise.... the entire rest of the boat belting out Don't Stop Believing (seriously) - I was staring at the BoA pavilion and thinking The Day Is Coming.

Sweet images. Definitely got my juices flowing.
Keep em coming.
The Harpoon looks good to me! ;)
Bummer. Have to work that day so no chance of getting there early enough to hit Harpoon and doesn't sound like there are any other good places for a pre-show. That sucks. Was hoping to meet some of ya. Oh well. Have a great show everybody and I'll check back to see if anyone comes up with a alt plan.

There are plenty of places quite close, including a new sports bar literally next door to BoA Pav. With all reserved seating, we don't need to worry about lining up for the rail.
I'd also be up for a post-show nightcap, even if its just a hotel bar or whatnot. Being a Sunday night, I wonder when things quiet down. My wife has work the next morning, but we might be good for an hour or so post-show.
Here it is, Jerry Remy's Sports Bar.

Looking forward to seeing another show with you John.
Yeah, I'm not sure if everyone will care for the sports bar digs and all, but you can't beat the location.
1 is Jerry Remy's Sports Bar
2 is johnnYYac's hotel
3 is Bank of America Pavillion

Eric, will be good to see you again. Kyle, Laura, Matt, Aaron, and Val as well! Hoping to meet foomex, BigSky, nuggets, wolof, CountSA, YungYave, etc.
If people are okay with this idea, we can preliminarily call J. Remy's the "official" pre-show watering hole. If any locals care to warn us away or have a better idea, we're all ears.
I've got no problem with a sports bar, the Red Sox on the other hand............ ;)
Nice map. I know our hotel is in there somewhere on Northern Ave. too, just not sure which building. The concierge said it's right across the street and less than two blocks away.
John - What time are you and the Mrs. getting in to town? Our train arrives around 1:00-1:30 ish I think. Cabbing it to the hotel and hoping to check in early if they'll let us. Either way we're probably going to go for some lunch someplace close, and then checkout the area for a bit.
Sounds good to me, got some pre-wedding vedor meetings in the morn but should be in Boston with the soon to be Mrs. Wolof come early-mid afternoon time....Go SoX!!!!
I'm in, Roll Call got me 9th row! Can't wait to make the trip out.
Remy's sounds good to me. Gonna cut out from work a bit early, so should be down there around 5. I'll have to go back and check out the members pics page so I'll recognize ya. Look forward to meeting everyone.

I'm sorry if I offended you johnnYYac. Being a craft beer devotee, I meant only to offend the coors light.
Speaking of craft beer, I love that the pavilion sells harpoon ipa in a can. And last time I was there, it was the most economical choice.
Bumpers.
I'm seriously stoked for this and it's getting closer!! xD
The bar decision is still TBC right? I'm yet to lure my +1 to go to this, she's not as postboardy as me and probably thinks it's creepy to meet strangers, hell ima be honest it creeps me out a bit too but y'all seem cool and etcetera. Could be interesting if it doesnt get awkward. Ha

It's no more awkward or creepy than blogging with strangers... ;)
I've met many forum folk...and it has always been a good time. The best thing is that you have a group a friends that are at the show; we always help each other out...saving a spot in line, holding your place on the rail and even going for beer runs.
I'd like to suggest the "official" My Morning Jacket Forum Pre-show gathering for Boston occur at Jerry Remy's Sports Bar. I'll be getting into town around or just after 4 pm. After we check in to our hotel, we will head right over to Remy's. Mahg33ta said he might try to reserve some tables or whatnot, if Remy's will allow. I'm in Chicago until Tuesday night, so I can't do anything until then.

I called Remy's last night to see if we could reserve a table / porch / room.... they told me to call back when it wasnt a Red Sox - Yankees game !!
FYI - My Fiancee went barhoppin in the harbor area last night with some friends. I told her to give me the lowdown on the scene.
She went to Remy's, Harbor Bar and Whiskey Priest all within a block of one another....
....She said Remy's is huuuuuuge but since it was a Red Sox/Yanks game last night she said it was impassably crowded.
...She said the other 2 were cool, perhaps not as big as Remy's but both have Roof decks/ bars which she said was a lot of fun....One of them had a $5 cover and she said that one wasn't as good as the other and smelled (?)....I will find out which bar was which and more info when she gets home tomorrow!
Hey MMJ Boston fans!
Big MMJ fan, but first time posting on this forum. Roll call member, seen them live a bunch of times...you know the speech ;D ;D. Normally I frequent the Pearl Jam forum, but jump over here occasionally to read show reviews, check out posters, and pray that I see that the Portland, ME show from last October is finally available!
Anyway, I am wondering if anyone might have an extra pair of tickets to the BOA Pavilion show? I know tickets are still available, but I want to try to get closer to the stage. Not saying I have to be up front, but would rather not be in the last row.
Going to Kah-Bang Saturday, which my friends are actually putting on in my hometown, and know I will have the MMJ bug after the show gets out Saturday night. If anyone has an extra pair that would be sweet. No worries if you don't. I am planning on driving down to Boston no matter what and I will find my way into the show somehow.

Ok so I got the official lowdown....
.....all 3 bars have covers past 10pm which makes sense....
......WP and Atlantic Beer Garden (not Harbor Bar, don't know where that came from :D) both have sweet rooftop bars.
....all 3 right on the water.....
....remy's got the most space....
Harpoon and Atlantic Beer Garden are winning options.

I haven't chimed in here because I'm not 100% sure I can make the pre-game, but I've followed the bar discussion and I do think Remy's is the right call. It's not as cool as the others (no roofdeck, more "chain restaurant" atmosphere) but it is RIGHT across the street and the others are a few big blocks away. That seems important if we are dealing with will call, ticket sales/purchases, etcc... and the weather! looks like another rainy BoA show.
I'll be there JY if at all possible- just depends on babysitter, wife, weather, desire for poster, and if I want to hit opener or not.
Does anyone here know if the venue will allow you to bring in a poster tube? Gonna be a wash out...need proper poster protection.

Does anyone here know if the venue will allow you to bring in a poster tube? Gonna be a wash out...need proper poster protection.
:dankk2:
I've never been there, but I can't see why not. I'm bringing mine, bad weather or not. Most venues allow it. At most they check to see that it's empty when you go in.
At T5 they only checked my tube on the last night...could've made a small fortune bringing in who knows what the first 4 nights. ;)
Thank you...I'll probably try to bring one in then.

For those of you that have some time to kill on Sunday it may be helpful to know that it's the start of Restaurant Week in Boston. That means you can get a 3 course dinner at most of the upscale restaurants in town for $33!!!! Check it out: http://www.restaurantweekboston.com/ (http://www.restaurantweekboston.com/)
Thanks for this gem of info
Enjoy your first MMJ show!!!
Hasn't it rained the last two times MMJ played headlining shows in MA? Should be a nice rainy night... really looking forward to it.

yup, if you are counting holyoke '10 and boston '08. Holyoke was rainy, then drizzly; boston 08 was ridiculous rain. It looks like the streak continues.
Pearl jam '06 and Petty '10 were great weather, but you did say headlining!
Hey y'all we are down for Remy's if that's where the party is!
leaving tomorrow evening for boston, gonna sleep on an old college buddy's floor for 3 nights. :D
i can't wait, and i am planning on visiting the preshow shindig. it will be good to see you all again... johnny, kyle, and the rest. cheers friends.

Last timed they played there in 2008...they actually held it for you, gave you a ticket which you used to claim the poster after the show. I did this and it was nice because it was raining...

I'm also going to commit myself and my wife, Michele, to Remy's for our pre-game location, as we have to check in to our hotel and won't arrive to Boston until after 4 pm. I can't speak for anyone else, but that's where we'll be. We were there for a garden show at the nearby trade center and Remy's is right next door to the BoA Pav.
Hey johnny we are hoping to catch you guys at Remys for a pregame pop assuming we can drag our asses back from Bangor in time!

Michele and I will be there. We hope to hit the waterfront around 2pm, check in to the hotel around 4pm, go to doors right at 6pm. Probably Remy's 4-6pm. Will Call opens at noon, I believe. Have fun tonight and a safe trip to Beantown.

For someone who has received their physical tickets already: what time does the ticket state Doors/Music? I know that sometimes they are different from what the websites state. I also plan on calling the venue tomorrow to confirm times.
I will be at Remy's now too- worked out my scheduling issues. Hopefully 5ish, maybe w/ mrs mahg33ta. Can't WAIT !!

Just look up!
Box Office opens at Noon
Doors at 6pm
Neko Case at 7pm
MMJ around 8-8:30pm
Cheers! I was hoping it was that and not something entirely different via the venue/tickets.
Looking forward to seeing you all tomorrow night! Sure am glad I had this whole day to recuperate after the MPP show. ;D
Hello,
New to the forums but I've been seeing MMJ for several years now. I ain't got no tickets to the show and was wondering if anyone had an extra.
I actually got into grad school in the area only a week ago so had no idea I'd be here and a MMJ show would be a great way to start my academic year!
Any suggestions - craigslist seems rife with scalpers and I ain't go no peeps in boston with my hook up. I can even offer a place to crash on the floor of my empty, bare, subletted apartment for anyone who has the hookup. Its not comfortable, but its free and I'll take you to breakfast!
I down with seeing the show solo or chilling with whoever, but I must get to this show! MMJ is the top act out there right now.
There are still "plenty" on livenation.com on the back.
If you can spend a bit more there are some more acceptable seats on stubhub.com, which I don't think qualifies as "scalping"?...
Good luck!

Probably making it to Remy's barring any unseen weather circumstances, yesterday's ride home from MWP was pure hell. Hit a good storm outside of Baltimore and slowed everything down. I think us New England drivers can handle a little rain, though. It'll be good to see ya agan Johnny...it's been a long time!
the day is coming...the way is clear...THE DAY HAS COME!
Yeah man! I'm so excited, this is my first headlining MMJ after being an idiot and not going to 2008 and 2006. I think I was away for the 2010 show...
Was getting stressed. Threw my back out the other day and was thinking I would have to skip the show. Woke up this morning feeling great. THE SHOW IS ON. See you guys at Remy's. Should be in around 5pm.
i may run into some of you folks there....ill be the tall dude w/ a beard and an Eddie Vedder Tshirt on!
if anyone is going in early and wants to make a couple bucks (buying me a poster) PM me please!
Heading out soon. Mom's here to watch the girls. I'm doing myself and my wife a favor and leaving my new laptop home, so no forum posts until tomorrow. Maybe I'll sneak a tweet here and there. See you at Remy's or at the show.
We love you, Patrick! Hope you're well.

Ugh tix are available wish I had the money to go from ny. I could prob get the tix but wouldn't have the money to get there
Another rainy night at the pavillion...it should be a nice steamy show...
Get some rest Patrick...we're going to need you tonight!
Eating @ Bertuccis.... No rain yet!! Bring it on! :-X
Wish I could make this lovely show on my b-day! But the past couple shows have been plenty of gift enough :-* :-*
I hope you guys get a mind-blowing set and hope Patrick is back in good health again!!! :-D
1)Didn't make it to Remy's, we changed plans and went to see a Vinyl record exhibition at the ICA and then went straight to BoA.
2) Hope you guys actually got to meet, drink a lot, and enjoyed the meet-up
3) Got me a lion tshirt :D
4) Lay Low was MIA, serious bummer, but I had an UH-mazing time, I grooved ALL over the set, specially in black metal, and OBH obviously.
5) I found Dondante's intro a bit strange... was it just me?
6) I forgot 6, I'm really tired. Oh yeah, the freebie 420 airs near me helped a bit :dankk2:
Can't wait for the next MMJ, sadly it'll probably be on the next release... or maybe if they lay some TX dates.
THANK YOU!
Feel emotionally drained but so fulfilled at the same time! Another unforgettable night!
@@
Man, what a great night! Setlist was pretty much everything I could have wanted, a few surprises but ultimately it doesn't really matter what they played because it was amazing nonetheless. The seats I grabbed from the Roll Call were way better than I imagined and the people behind me were really grooving all night. Sweet stuff!
The boys were pumped and ready to play last night. Carl was so impressive with his energy, and I can't believe Patrick was even there after a bad lobster roll...loved the clock-arms. They sounded so good and the new songs just filled the venue. I was 5 rows from the stage and it was nice to see them having so much fun. It was also nice to have the sea breeze coming off of the water. Sunday night shows are always a bit tough, but this one was wonderful. Thanks MMJ!

I'm there...with gear!
I think you are the guy that taped the 08 BoA Boston show, and if so, Bravo - I listened to that many many times over the years.
I'm guessing you are the gordo55 from expressobeans, and if so, I sent you a PM there
The one and the same. Got your note on Expressobeans, I'll have to dig thru the Hatch file and see what we can work out. Make me an offer. I AM looking for last night's Burwell if you have any leads and have some pretty good old school MMJ posters as trade fodder.
Taped last nite at the corner of sbd (stage left). Much better situation this time around...mics weren't handheld like last time. Thanks to the folks who let me join 'em in their seats to get this done. Show will be on Dime and Trader's Den in the next couple of days. Nak700's -> DR100 / RC, corner of SBD / ~12 ft high. I basically set it and forgot it so will be listening and mastering tonite. Finger's crossed.
Amazing night! I got kicked out of Jerry Remy's and lost my iPhone, and I'm still in a good mood! They were ON POINT, loved hearing the new stuff. Highlight for me was probably Dondante, it was played in a way I've never heard before (almost futuristic?). You could smell the salt water in the cool breeze, great venue and great crowd energy.
kicked out of Remys? Cant really just start a story off like that and not elaborate
Haha well I'm told I was belting out MMJ songs at the top of my lungs doing my best Jim impression, and when the bouncer tried to intervene I attempted to dance with him? Got escorted out by the manager, probably had a bit too much of that Kentucky whiskey.
Sorry I missed everyone at Remy's. Traffic was brutal. Backed up from Concord to the MA line. Got parked around 6:45 and headed in. Think I passed some of you guys in front of Remy's taking pics(thought I recognized Yac). Bummer.
Thought the show was fairly pedestrian. Super basic setlist. Seemed like they were looking for a comfort zone with Patrick back. It Beats is always really nice. Surprised at a back to back night Dondontes. Really enjoy that they are stretching that tune out more and more these days. Was cool t hear it move and build a bit different that usual. This end of Run Thru shit is annoying. At least transition into it out of something and make it interesting. Just starting the end jam from nowhere is a complete waste. The whole power of that tune and the end jam is lost when they do that imo. By far the highlight for me was the Honest Man. Crazy big version. Carl was absolutely killing it. Best version I've seen. Was really glad to see Jim leave some of the scripted theatrics out of Worldless (no stage slide). Thank you. That was getting really annoying. Just be honest on stage. I, for one, could live without the theatrics. If it's honest and you're just moving and acting the way the music moves you, great. If you doing a schtick, stop. It's cheap and silly. Band sounded great. Could have been louder, but they nailed everything as usual.
As for the venue, never again. $10-12 beers? FUCK YOU! No smoking anywhere in the venue? FUCK YOU! Thought the sound inside was really boomy even though it managed to hold the low end really well. And good lord, how bout a little space in the seating. You can barely move if your row is full. Finally moved to some open space so I could dance. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a flailer, but I would like to be able to move more than my head.
I love this band and to me it has the potential to become one of the most powerful live acts ever, but they have got to start changing up the set lists. They are so stagnant. Why would anyone see them on consecutive nights? So many repeats. MMJ has more than enough material and have been playing live together long enough to start performing without the net of a set list. It really makes the shows feel generic and predictable. Would love to be surprised more than once every few shows. Getting bored.
If anyone has an extra Burwell from the Boston show they would like to part with please let me know? Have a Fung from the MPP show if that is of any interest to anyone with a Burwell, but either way will buy it from you if you are looking to move it? Thanks

Why? Are we just supposed to blow smoke up their ass all the time? Not ok to say something negative about the band or the environment?
Honestly how much to you expect a 20oz (?) beer to cost at a concert?

im sorry, but theyre touring behind an album so obviously theres going to be several songs off of that, and then the rest of the show is going to be greatest "hits"/songs that everybody wants to hear, and the couple gems that theyve been putting into the setlists on this tour are more than enough to make me want to see them on consecutive nights. while i kind of agree with you about the setlists being somewhat predictable, theres some bands of the past (led zeppelin) and present (the black keys) that rarely changed their setlists during a tour. so im thankful that jacket does change it up every night. and if you want to see the same band play several nights on a tour and not a hear a repeat id suggest that you get into the jam band scene

Yeah ok, I get it. Same as other venues. Seeing $10 for Bud Light just rubbed me the wrong way. Never used to drink, so I guess it's all just sticker shock. Glad there are more and more BYOB venues in my area these days 'cause those kinda prices are ridiculous.

Getting bored.
im sorry, but theyre touring behind an album so obviously theres going to be several songs off of that, and then the rest of the show is going to be greatest "hits"/songs that everybody wants to hear, and the couple gems that theyve been putting into the setlists on this tour are more than enough to make me want to see them on consecutive nights. while i kind of agree with you about the setlists being somewhat predictable, theres some bands of the past (led zeppelin) and present (the black keys) that rarely changed their setlists during a tour. so im thankful that jacket does change it up every night. and if you want to see the same band play several nights on a tour and not a hear a repeat id suggest that you get into the jam band scene
-nate
You're right. A lot of bands play the same set list over and over, but not a fan. I get that they are pushing the new album and was thrilled to hear some of the new material live. Already getting a bit burnt on Black Metal though. The pre-recorded aspect is tough for me to get past. On the other hand Freak Out and First Light were stellar. And I do like that they have been switching around some of the new materials placement in the set. I just would love to hear what these guys are capable of if they let go and just went where the music took them.
I guess it's 'cause I come from the "jam band" environment that I get so uptight about stagnant setlists. Feels kinda cheap and generic to hear the same thing over and over and I just don't get why a band this talented, with this much material would do that night after night.
Not for nothing but the band isn't choosing their setlists based on the minority of venue-hoppers that go to multiple shows in a short period of time. They're playing every night at a different place for the people of that given area. They know and appreciate their fans that are spending a lot of money and personal time on following them, but they are trying to honor those that haven't seen them in a while or not at all foremost.
It's awesome that you may have been able to see them multilple times in recent years, but most people don't have that priviledge and you can't blame the band for treating each night in favor of the 'other guys'...
I'm sure you love this band because you wouldn't (or shouldn't) be here writing about them... but seriously, that post came off like they owed you something... but they don't...

True and good point. I guess I just like for live shows to seem "special" in some way. Something unique that only you and the others in attendance got to experience. Certainly didn't mean to sound like they owe me anything, but can see how it came off that way. That was not my intention. I just personally feel they could be a much bigger entity live if they changed things up more.

Cool to clear it up a bit...
...also don't forget that before the release of Circuital... they played the Terminal 5 Run of 100 songs and one repeat... so they're very capable of pulling off variety on consecutive nights. Sure there will more of something like that in the years to come... I'm sure you believe this to be the case as well.

I agree with Nuggets. I used to be so into this band and they are a great live act...but every time I see them I basically feel like it is the same show. I personally would never see them back to back nights...basically seeing them once on a tour is all I need because I know they are going to play basically the same set.
A perfect example is Wilco. I saw them at their Solid Sound Festival and on back to back nights they only repeated a few songs. Wilco is not a jam band..just a great band with enough material to be confident enough to play a good amount of it and give the fans a variety of their material. I see no reason why MMJ cannot do this espeically after the T5 shows knowing they are capable of playing every song they have.

There are about 5 or 6 in the NH/VT area. No, none of them could hold MMJ. A concert in a field north of Concord does sound good though.

Bangor was a fairly unique set list, so I can understand how those two nights would not seem repetitive. Look, I'm not telling anyone how they should feel or stating anything as fact. It's all purely my opinion. Didn't like the venue. Thought the set list for Boston was one of the most generic of the tour so far and would like to see these guys truly mix up their set lists and make each show something unique and special.

I get what you guys are saying. IMO, and I could be way off here, but I feel like Wilco is content with where they are (success and popularity wise). That gives them the luxury to just go out and play whatever they feel like. I don't think Jim is quite there yet. So he's kind of relying on his bread and butter to appeal to more and more new fans. Like I said, I could be way off, that's just my perception. I'd love to hear all the old stuff, but I'm only averaging a show a year so I'm happy with what I get!

We're talking about back to back nights in different cities with MMJ. As has been mentioned before, MMJ is touring to back their new album so of course the play-list on this tour is going to be heavy with songs off the new record?!
One thing they DON'T do is take a night off and that is why I don't really get too uptight when I see somewhat similar set-lists because I know they are bringing that energy and intensity that I LOVE to see and hear when seeing this band live. Maybe they could do a bit better of a job of mixing up their set-lists, but I think you would be hard-pressed to find another band that brings it every night like MMJ does.

Grain of salt time! ???
from mid-way into the article
"On the scrim behind the band, there were five rectangular windows, where cloud and sky or sparkling projections were sometimes shown, but that was it for window dressing. This was all about music and emotion, not special effects. Sang James in the first encore, "Wonderful (The Way I Feel)": "I can learn from way back when, but still live right now."
Wonderful was cut from the setlist. :-\
I agree it was a great show, but question the journalism.
And the Boston Herald is toilet paper. :P

Mr. Sullivan,
My Morning Jacket is the best thing is music these days. I appreciate the positive review of a great show. However, did you actually attend? You quote the encore opener, Wonderful (The Way I Feel), midway through your article. That song was not played, though it was on the pre-show setlist. It was cut, which is too bad for it is a beautiful song. I agree with the spirit of your article, but ask for more solid and truthful journalism from ANY newspaper or news source.

You said it right there.
It's b/c they are
NOT a "jam band". Sort of like going to see the symphony play Beethoven's 5th and you get all pissy b/c they won't play Beethoven's 9th or do any Mozart. You're looking for a jam band experience but paying for a different show. I don't think that's going to work for you and I don't think they want to be a "jam band". I know I don't want them to be a "jam band".

I think it is a good example. I've seen Wilco back to back in different cities too...and i'm pretty sure they were supporting a new album and they still mix it up enough to make it feel like a different experience. My point was pretty clear. MMJ does not mix it up enough IMO.
Yeah you just repeated my point too...the fact that they can do something like T5 and play all those songs makes it clear as day they are capable of playing them. So why not play them on tour? I'm not saying I need a completely different set each night but you can almost predict their set every night.
There are other bands that bring it every night...and ones that also mix things up from Tour to tour...night to night. I'm just saying. Not a huge deal but I know from someone that used to be a huge fan...I'm not as into them as I once was for this reason. Not liking the new album probably does not help I'll admit that.
I'll also give you another example of a band who "brings it every night" and I know some people are fans of on here. The Drive-By Truckers. They mix their sets up every night..whether same city or not...just an example that you don't have to be a jamband to do this...from the post above.

Built to Spill does that, too. And I love BTS. My point is if you're coming for a "jam band" experience, then you are at the wrong show. I also think the "jam band" creates a scene of people who travel with the band, so to speak, as they go from city to city. However, I met a guy at a Rush show in May who had seen them like 11 consecutive times on the tour, exact same set list. To each his own...
For whatever reason (and I am trusting YY at this point) they play similiar setlists every night. I get that. I am OK with that. I also think most people who attend their shows are OK with that. I'd say for about 90% of the audience (feel free to disagree) it's their only MMJ show of the year and that's who they are catering towards; not the 5-10% who are complaining about variety. It's not a question of if they can mix it up; they are simply choosing not to. They may lose a couple of fans but overall they are more popular than ever.
I agree w/ tracy. They don't need to switch it up every night for the (I'd say more than) 10% of people that travel to see them multiple times are seeing them the only time that year or maybe in the past couple years. If RR was your first time since EU tour seeing them, for example, a person wouldve seen 10 or so songs they've never played.
I hear ya, it'd be cool if they played completely different sets, but its completely understand why they dont. On wednesday and friday I'm seeing them for the 8th and 9th time this year, and in no way am I bummed about the set list.
I looked back at the 5 shows I saw this summer. Three festivals (2 hours, 20 songs, no break)- Mt. Jam, Ottawa, Lolla; and 2 non-fest shows (2.5 hours, 24-26 songs, short break, opening act)- Montreal and Boston.
Here's the combined setlist.
Victory Dance x5
Circuital x5
The Day Is Coming x5
Off The Record x5
Gideon x5
I'm Amazed x5
Golden x5
Outta My System x5

I would have liked to hear some tunes I've yet to see live in three years and over a dozen shows (War Begun, Just One Thing, The Bear, etc.), but I do not feel shorted.
Its not just the name of the songs on the set list. Its the performance, the crowd, the town, the weather, the chemicals (or not), how full your bladder gets, your age, the amount of money in your wallet. If you like what you see, great. Come back for more. If you don't, I'll take your spot.
I respect everyone's opinion and (believe me) feel a bit disappointed by setlists like Boston.. but only to a point. I'll never see another show like it, even though I've seen every song on that setlist at least twice already (only "new" song for me in Boston was Islands in the Stream; only one Movin' Away in 5 shows!).

Honestly how much to you expect a 20oz (?) beer to cost at a concert?
Yeah ok, I get it. Same as other venues. Seeing $10 for Bud Light just rubbed me the wrong way. Never used to drink, so I guess it's all just sticker shock. Glad there are more and more BYOB venues in my area these days 'cause those kinda prices are ridiculous.
Didn't you say you came down from NH? Where are these BYOB venues you are referring too? As much as I would enjoy it I don't see MMJ coming to a field north of Concord where you can bring your own beer anytime soon..
There are about 5 or 6 in the NH/VT area. No, none of them could hold MMJ. A concert in a field north of Concord does sound good though.
More specifics please... I live in northern NH and would love to hear of BYoB venues that aren't a private party..

THIS, especially the performance. And don't forget the venue! Every show I see is different for all of these reasons, for all of the variables. I'll gladly join Johnny filling the spots of those who tire of seeing the same songs again, because when I see and HEAR them, it's never the same. And if it ever gets to be that way, then I'll be happy seeing one show per tour.
I have seen MMJ tons of times and I totally understand that is it the intensity and the experience..but I think if you have seen them a bunch it kind of gets a little old hearing the same stuff...that is probably what turns me off I guess. For someone seeing them the first few times I could see how it wouldn't matter.

Agree about the beers. 12 bucks for a 24 PBR is quite the markup. As far as smoking cigarettes in the venue, its Massachusetts state law that you can't smoke inside any venues. In fact, i think thats pretty much the norm for most venues I go to these days. I was fine on the space in my row and that was with the people around me sneaking friends down. Everyone was dancing and having a great time.
Personally I love the BOA Pavilion and have never been disappointed by a show there. IMO you can't beat being right on Boston harbor, being outside and being covered from the elements. Also its very easy to get in and out of if you are driving. There are far worse venue in the Boston area they could have played at.
Great show all around in my eyes.

Now I'm still happy, and three of my shows were fests, but your three covered a lot of ground. Good for you (yeah, I'm a tad jealous). What shows were these?
I'm also realizing, I did not see Wonderful (TWIF) in 5 shows this summer. Saw it plenty in 2010, though, and YY solo @ Newport.

Well, what can I say - another fabulous show! I swear, they just keep getting better and better and I can't believe next Tuesday is the last I'll see this phenomenal band for a while. :'(
I really liked the venue, it was clean and really cool to look at all lit up, I noticed they carry one of our biggest selling wines where I work by bottle so that was great to see, plus there was never a wait for the bathroom line, that's important when you're in a hurry! ;)
Of course it was wonderful to see some of you again - great seeing you again John and meeting your wife Michelle, I hope to see her at more shows! Nice to see Kyle and meet your wife too, albeit briefly, and Anthony and Amy (and I hope that's her name because I'm terrible with names!) So great to meet Jenn (mymorningtubetop) as well, hope you can make it to Philly! And of course my good friend Eric, always enjoy seeing MMJ with you - funny how I'm the one who got you into this band and you're way more active on here and a part of the group than I am. I know I met a couple of other people but again, I'm terrible with names and it was very brief. Hopefully we'll meet up again one of these days.
Anyhow - here are a few of my shots, we were sort of far back so they're not my best but hopefully I'll get some better ones on Tuesday. Enjoy!

Finger's crossed.
any luck with the tape?

Recent years seem like a highlight reel played in fast forward: Evil Urges was nominated for a Grammy, director Todd Haynes filmed their recent hometown record-release show with Erykah Badu, James recorded with the Roots and performed at last year's White House tree-lighting ceremony, and the band was recently featured on VH1's Storytellers. "I'm not sure what my ultimate goal is," says James. "I'm just happy to be making a living making art. I just want to be a peaceful being on this Earth."
