I've been away from my computer for the most of the day, what a great surprise to come home to! Ever since the opening of Stage AE in Pittsburgh I knew this moment was inevitable, as a matter of fact right when it was about to open up they included MMJ in an advertisement listing examples of the bands they'd get to play! August will be the longest wait ever.....

Me and my buddy are planning on making the trip from philly for this... What's the venue like?
Its my last week of either classes or finals, so Im either gonna get lucky and not have a test the next morning, or have to rough it. Certainly not missing the show.
Fly - They have 3 different capacities at the venue, clearly MMJ will be using the outdoor version with full capacity. The place is only like 7 months old so there hasnt been any outdoor shows there. I was there for the J Roddy show, which was the smallest capacity at 400. Outdoor shows have a 5500 capacity, so its quite smaller than what MMJ typically play outdoors at this point. Its GA. Place is real nice, good brew selection, and thought the sound was very good based on what Ive seen thus far. I'll probably be seeing Avett Bros there in a coupe weeks ($45 tix though, so maybe not)
I'll be there in spirit for you, spiritually stalking Neko. mine
I am most likely going to this.

This will be my fifth time seeing Neko in one form or another (trying to make you jealous), and that number might increase if I go to MPP too.

Yeah I can't wait til the outdoor shows start, I'm going to Avett Brothers too. I saw Snoop Dogg there a couple months ago and the indoor part was nice. It's the same promoters that run the LC Pavillion in Columbus for anyone whose been to that venue then you might know what to expect.
Myself + my lady friend.
Going to this and Columbus!

Columbus is highly likely for me to go!!! I loved the show there last year!!! I saw Trey at Stage AE in Feb. or March before I left for NC! It was sweet, I kept feeling like I was at Promowest in Columbus hahah, kind of a similar layout! But I can't wait to check out the outside stage!! Outside is so key for shows 8)
When we meet up at Pitt, it's all rail, baby!!! Bring it!!! :D :D :D

I remember walking in last summer as DMMoore was finishing and basically being able to get 5 feet from the rail. Just another bonus of seeing them in the Burgh, no need to get in there when the doors open (or wait in line) to get up close and personal :bath:

I know! we got there a little after the doors opened. I was surprised that there wasn't a large crowd in front. We got right up in from of where tom stands. my youtube videos from that night show you how it went.
See you there scotty!
bump this up! got my two tix!
Here it goes guys!!! We're in!!! Hey, is anybody coming through Pitt who's never been there before?? We could have a little out-of-towners tour pre-show! Or at least shuttle up to Mt. Washington to look down on the city and where we'll all be melting our faces into the 3 rivers!!!! :D :D :D :o

I saw Avett Brothers there, it's a lot nicer outdoors! Great place for MMJ. I didn't get my tickets yet since it's GA and I don't expect tickets to go fast.
I don't think this will be a big show since last year it wasn't packed.
Bump this up since we are so close to the date.
Anyone else going?
i really want to go to this show, if i can get one of my friends to tag along ill b there. as id really like to avoid a 4 hr drive by myself

Definitely agree, although I feel like theyve gotten a bit more popular over the past year. I havent seen any outdoor shows at AE, but maybe the new venue and word of mouth from last years show bump it 1000 or so.
My Pops is coming back to the Burgh a few days before the show and I think he's gonna come (bring him) to the show. First time I wouldve brought him to a show since Metallica in like '97/98 when he was our driver, or possibly Clapton around '99.
True, how full was Sublime/311 or Avetts? If neither of those sold out, I doubt MMJ does.

I'm pretty sure Avett Brothers sold out. Not sure about 311 and Sublime, if it didn't then it was probably close.

Does anyone know when parking opens? This will be our first show since T5....Giddy up!
I couldn't find a thread on the 8/8 Columbus show-- heading there from Cleveland. Does anyone know what time the show actually starts? Need to figure out how early I need to get off work. Thanks!

Awesome!!! Glad it worked out!! They were so amped up last year here, even though there's just a handful of us from the board in attendance, Pittsburgh gave them a LOT of love last year, and you could tell they felt it!! I'll be at the Perfect Circle show tomorrow, which will be my first outdoor show at Stage AE, so I'll try to get online between then and the show and figure out a good meeting spot and etc!!
Orrrrr do any of you folks have any plans for pre-show?
WAIT. RIGHT NOW. PUBLIC RADIO. "SLOW SLOW TUNE"
RIGHT NOW!!! Oh shit, Pittsburgh and MMJ are already colliding yet again..... solid Cbus show there too, dang!! They really brought out their big guns at Columbus last year too.... nice to see these not-so-big cities gettin some love! :-*
Hey let us know how the line is to get in. And when parking opens up. I've been looking on line and can't find when the park lots open.
I'm sure my friends & I aren't gonna be gettin there real early beforehand tomorrow, but I have every intention of hunting us down some answers!!
Not sure when the lot opens. Last time I was there they wouldn't let us park there yet because of people who park there that work downtown. It did appear that they let some people in for the concert though, it was a perplexing situation. There's a garage nearby if they don't let you in. I'll be down around 4:00 or 5:00.

Saw them last year in Pittsburgh - busted my son's cherry (that sounds so wrong) along with a couple others - great show. Looking for another great one (my third of this tour) and taking 2 more virgins (of the female persuasion). Should be a wonderful night and a fairly intimate show. I'll be close to the rail for sure.
Then back to my home court and in the MPP pit on Friday.

Ghosts on TV sounded like a maybe, you still coming?
Can't wait to meet everyone. We'll be walking as we are staying less than a mile away and will be itching to find a tailgate going on. So I take it from the previous few threads people won't be showing up to 4 or 5ish? We'll probably aim to split the difference with some quality suds and bottles in tow. Let us know if anything is planned and we'll try and hit it up.
A MS. Y APPEARANCE 2 days before your birthday (and 4 before mine!!) That's reason enough to party, if I must say!!!! :D :D :D I can't wait to see you again, bringin such rampant baddassery our way!!! :o

Not sure if I have that accurate, someone holler if I don't!
But I got to check out AE tonight outside.... PERFECT night.... not a degree too warm or cold.... perfect little breeze with a gigantic waxing moon over the RIVER..... not to mention all the crazy perfect circles taking place all night....
But we got there around 6:45 and parked for free at the casino parking lot (where my friend works) and walked along the river to get there... so I'm still lacking a bit of info. about the actual lot. I'm gonna try to get there maybe around 2 or 3? Ms. Y what time are you planning to head over there??
I've got an aerial shot from google maps of the parking lots, I believe there are 2 main ones, with one looking more actively tailgated than the other when I was there tonight .... I'll post the pic when I get it saved, hopefully in a couple mins..... let me know what you guys think!
OK, here's a top-notch photoshopped picture of the layout of the venue + what appeared to be the main tailgating lot....
Not sure how much extra $$ it is to be in one lot vs. another, but it seemed like most people hanging out were in the area I've noted:
But really not sure how it all generally plays out with lot opening times, etc, etc....... but thought it might be at least a little helpful if we can all kinda try to arrange to be in that one area maybe..... :D :D
Alright guys, I just called the venue and spoke to a girl who said their parking lot opens 3 hours before the doors open (which is 6:30) So that'll be 3:30. And she wasn't positive, but believes the other lots open around 2! She also said the lots immediately around the venue are $10, but I do know there are a handful of lots right around the outskirts of the venue (within 20 feet of the nearer lots....) that may be cheaper.
SO! I'm not sure where I'm going to land, but after I post this message I'm not going to be online for much longer. So I'm gonna PM you folks who I think are going with my phone # and please call or text when you head down and maybe we'll be able to all meet up for a little pre-show gig or at least a meet-up and a group picture! :)
I wish like hell DaFunkyPrez was in attendance with that awesome flag!!! But I'm tempted to bring the only flag I have, which is a giant 4ft. Rasta flag, that looks like this:
Hahahahahahahh I can't guarantee I'll be flying that baby, but keep in mind if I do and you spot it, to stop on over! I'm gonna try to coordinate with ImTheDude and his wife, and I know Ms. Y is a super early line-goer too, so we may just have our party in the line.... so definitely text or call when you guys stop down!
Ok, I hope I've thrown out enough line to catch all you crazy awesome people!!! Check your PMs!!! :D :D :D And if we don't all meet, ROCK ON EVERYONE!!! We've got quite an experience coming up tonight!!! AHHHH!!! :D :D :D
Ah, shit. Cant believe Im going to miss a hometown show, albeit I live a couple hours away for the time being.
Vids from the show must be taken!
Yeah, if I were cooler I'd be going...I only live 2 hrs away...could make it there by 8...hmm. So tempting. I would have to borrow a car though b/c mine sounds awful. Dammit.
im about to leave now so i should be there around 430, ill be wearing my roll call shirt and a green les claypool hat. please dont hesitate to say hello

damn that's a setlist
I haven't seen MMJ as much as many of you, but that was the best show yet. Brought my oldest nephew along for his first MMJ show (he's only 4 years younger than me), he absolutely loved it! I didn't think they could top last year but they did. Victory Dance is powerful live, probably the best performance out of the new songs. Jim was totally channeling Jim Morrison during Off the Record with his Indian style dancing (but maybe I'm just basing that off of Val Kilmer as Jim?). Best Dondante yet I believe, really jazzed out the end of that one. Dondante gets better and better every time. Evelyn and Honest Man rocked, first time seeing either of those. I would've rather heard Strangulation over Knot Comes Loose, always nice to hear rarities either way. Islands In the Stream with Neko was great, had a big smile during that one. I wanted a poster but they sold out, last year I bought one after the show ended no problem. I just didn't feel like carrying it the whole time. It's cool that they sold autographed records, I probably would've bought one if I didn't already have the roll call certificate. Nice to meet some forum peeps, maybe next time I'll join you on the rail.
the show was incredible, so glad i was able to make it because if i wouldve missed evelyn i would have never forgave myself. i got in line just as the soundcheck started with im amazed, then went into evelyn, knot comes loose, islands in the stream twice and finished with golden(which they didnt play) knot comes loose was awesome to hear, as was honest man and an 18 min dondante :o and i got a setlist and a drum stick. it was awesome seeing everybody and i couldnt have asked for a better show to be my last ill probably see this year :'( that is unless there happens to be a NYE in NYC...
Natonate, were you the guy I was standing next to? I am the Pearl Jam guy. We never exchanged names but I'm guessing it's you from what you said. Anyway I just didn't want you searching YouTube for my video of Dondante. Something about where we were standing made my camera HATE the sound, the video is basically trash...although very interesting to watch with the sound off!
yep im that guy lol. damn thats a shame, hopefully imthedude's turned out then
Even if it had turned out, it would have been too long for YouTube...they have a 15 minute limit!
Excellent show! Sound perfect, band relaxed and rocking, Jim's voice spot on, and the weather finally turned gorgeous.
Snagged another MMJ fan for the ride to Pittsburgh where we both have kids residing, both of which were going to the show; so pretty special in that regard and well worth the trip.
We all rocked out center stage about 4 or 5 peeps from the rail.
Dondante was the longest and most improvised I had ever seen. Jim was noodling from the get go and even Carl was improvising with his sax near the end. Someone said it was 18 min but it seemed longer.
Honest Man was stretched out nicely as well and had the crowd rocking. Knot Comes Loose was a nice surprise for me.
Can't wait until Fri night - maybe a killer PWW?

Oh man the friggin jam that begins at 9:23
And 10:43 gets a little transcendental........ makes me wish they expanded another few tracks to the 20ish minute marker :-*
wow, those videos turned out amazing :'( thank you for sharing :dankk2:
and is it just me or does it almost sound a little bit like octoplasm at around the 12 minute mark rwhen carl starts up with the sax?
Nice Dondante video Dude!
They played a pretty epic Dondante in Detroit similar to what you got in Pittsburgh. That brought back some good memories of that Detroit show!

i remember the detroit show from 08, that was a great time. glad everyone likes the video. they jammed the hell out of it. It was hard to keep the camera steady for that long of a time. i use my droidx cell phone. It has a great concert video setting on it.

Yeah. I was going to commend you on that.
that dondante is pretty special. Lots of different sounding stuff. The fast part starting 14:36 they've in a few but is always great. Carl grabs his sax much earlier than typical.
If I had the time I'd love to do a detailed comparison of these dondantes - break them down into their various parts and see how they're constructed each night. First I'd need to come up with better descriptive language than "good part" "great part" "mind-blowing part" "fast part" "pink floyd part" "transcendal part" etc...
i do believe BH has a Dondante spread sheet.
still waiting on the all-omnichord version.

I think Pink Floyd part and Transcendental part are kind of alright :)
I like the idea though, I know I caught a glimpse once of that spreadsheet!
