Title: slappymoe's different kind of review
Post by: slappymoe on May 24, 2011, 02:39 PM
one of the things that drew me to this band was the way the music reminded me so much of the stuff i grew up listening to.   after a couple of listens, here are my early, not-to-be-taken-too-seriously impressions of which songs sound like which people (yeah, i'm a lifelong beatles fan):

victory dance:  tough one, more pearl jam than anything else i can think of.

circuital:  easy.  even pete couldn't write a more who-like anthem.

day is coming:  very beatle-like, has another feel (10cc, ELO?) that i haven't figured out yet.

wonderful:  late 60's, early 70's james taylor.

outta my system:   beach boys.  could have fit right in on pet sounds.

black metal:  amazing.   like nothing i've ever listened to (not big on thai pop).  prince wishes he had thought this one up.

first light:  mid 70's george harrison.

freak out:  a paul mccartney pop masterpiece.

slow, slow tune: again, reminds me of the obligatory pearl jam slow song that appears on each album.  think "come back."

movin' away: early 70's john lennon.

overall, it sounds like my morning jacket.  and that's a good thing.
