Way to go Ruckus! Sounds like there are several warped copies out there, and if it turns out that there are more warped shipments to come after the release date, somebody is going to have a serious problem. I sent my customer support request last night to topspin and haven't heard back, but I wouldn't expect to until next week.

My 2nd disc (sides 3/4) is also warped.  It is noticeable but I use a heavy outer clamp on my TT and it helps to take away the problem of most warped records.

Major bummer if the warp stops people from enjoying the music and if they have to try and replace those with production defects.

I recently had this problem with my eddie vedder itw vinyl. I put between two heavy textbooks for a week. (room-80degree). still wavy but sounds fine. if you don't have heavy books. put the record in the middle of a stack of records.  try this see what happens.

Just got my package today and we are spinning the first album.  It is ever-so-slightly warped, I can see it while it spins but we really can't hear the warp.  If the second album is worse then I will be disappointed enough to contact Bandmerch for a replacement (defects happen, but they should stand behind the quality of their product).  But if it is only slightly warped like the first album, then I will just chill.  Was planning on getting the regular vinyl for my day to day listening anyway....

My side B is badly warped, although both records skip less on one record player than another (not sure why)

In my mind this is completely unacceptable.. We paid around 100 bucks for a pair of warped records. If they do not send replacements, I will demand my money back.

Perhaps I should rephrase my first post.  I had no intention of coming off as douchy as I did.  I guess I was a little frustrated.  I should point out that the 1st record is just mildly warped and fine.  The 2nd one, while it plays, looks rather taxing on my player.  Sounds like numero dos is the guilty record.  Hopefully someone hears back from the manufacturer or distributor soon.

I'm a noob when it come s to vinyl, as I just started collecting.  I am still in search of a stylus for my recently purchased record player.  Im assuming warped vinyl is not a common thing?  I laid my records on a granite table top to check for flatness.  Number 1 has about a 32nd of an inch wave and number two has at least 8th of an inch wave.  I wish I could listen to see if this is a problem.  Sounds like from the previous posts this is no good.  Something needs to be done.  This was very pricey and should be top quality IMO.  Not kick a man while he's down but my holograph box was recieved with multiple scratches which may be petty to some but I for 1 am very disappointed.

CC, if your out there could you let us know who needs to be contacted?
Thanks in advanced.

It really depends on the type of player you have if it can be played or not. I have an old used TT and I did notice the record skipped on "wonderful" and a few times on the second LP. I've never had this issue with new vinyl. In fact I rarely have it with old vinyl I've bought.

And YES! CC please address this issue!

It looks like a good number of them are warped.  Mine has a pronounced bump/warp but playes fine.  I may not have noticed it if not for this thread.  I wonder if it is because of the gatefold cover for the record  - it seems to fit extremely tight (much more so than sides 1/2); or a problem with the manufacturing process?
I doubt that they are going to reproduce the run of sides 3/4.  I'll be watching to see how this goes.

Hey so is this noticeable by the naked eye? I should go pull mine out. I haven't had a turntable since college, but I've been picking up vinyl along the way for the day when I was able to get myself a new turntable, Circuital being one of those times.

I don't have the means to test it by playing it yet.
Title: Re: Warped Green Vinyl ROLL CALL
Post by: Randall on May 29, 2011, 10:19 AM
the warp on mine is not evident to the (my) naked eye by just looking at it in hand, but a pronounced bump spanning about 1/12th of the surface can be seen when it is spinning while playing the record.  The way others are portraying the extent of the warp leads me to believe that mine is minor in comparison (or that they are WAAAAY more anal than I).
Title: Re: Warped Green Vinyl ROLL CALL
Post by: searchinbig on May 29, 2011, 10:36 AM
Warping is almost impossible to see unless the record is spinning. 45 spins faster so you will see it more. My records play but are warped. Record 2 is worse. It just scares me that at some point the stylus is gonna skip. Also. it can't be good for the record to play like this, as far as wear.

You can set your tracking so it will skip less, but you should not have to do that as that will create unnecessary wear on the vinyl and stylus.

Really would not care that much if I paid 20 bucks for the set but I did lay out a fair amount of dough for this. The package itself is beautiful. No complaints there.

I would think that if we all contact Topspin, they will have to make good somehow, especially if your records are skipping.  :)

My 2nd LP is warped enough to see it while not spinning, it's really bad. The first one plays with the tracking cranked down, but yeah, I hate to do that. So I'm trying dillsnufus's advice while hoping topspin will send me a new copy:

Hopefully Having Leary on there doesn't warp them further!  ;D

+1 here. Disc 1 off-center (the needle shouldn't be moving 1/4" left-to-right while the disc spins), Disc 2 warped significantly. Both discs will track but at times just barely, can see the stylus moving around in ways I usually do NOT see.

this is the reason the evil urges vinyl didn't come out for a whole month after the cd...sorry to hear everyone...apparently i got lucky because i haven't been able to find anything wrong with mine. i did notice that mine has an ato - 0105 etched into each record alongside some quote i can't remember off the top of my head. check and see what number all of yours has on it. i was wondering if i had number 105 i the pressing or if they all have that on them

Mine is 105 too, so it must just be the ATO number for this album.

Mine is a little warped but plays fine. However there was a little surface noise on Victory Dance. But mine for the most part is very listenable.

i posted this a while back:

people romanticize, talk about a warmth, a richness of sound, how album artwork was better with a larger canvas, whatever...i don't really get it, etiher.   vinyl to me means scratches, hisses, pops, and the sound of a needle passing through a groove.

having said that, in my computer room i still have my trusty 30 year old technics direct drive slq-200 turntable with a fairly new cartridge hooked up to my 33 year old pioneer sx-650 receiver with 33 year old (twice refurbished) pioneer hpm-40 speakers, so as soon as it arrives i'm ready to spin the black circle.

yeah, my vinyl is slightly warped, too.  ever watch your woofer as the needle passes over those bumps?    hear that constant "whoooosh" sound between tracks?

i bought the deluxe package as more of a souvenir than anything.  once the download arrives, i doubt those records ever come out of the box.

please don't take this as a complaint....i knew what i was buying when i bought it, though i should have said "spin the green circle."

Yeah that's the unfortunate part about colored vinyl and why I ultimately chose to get the regular old black wax. I have had a lot of bad luck with colored vinyl. I don't know if it's my typical Charlie Brown luck, but a lot of my colored pieces came convex/bowed right out of the sealed package, which is a let down. I was burnt on record store day with the 'mulberry' pressing of Grinderman's Palace of Montezuma 12".  And sometimes I notice some of my colored pieces have a slightly degraded noise floor (hiss/low static). Nothing beats a high quality 180g from RTI or Quiex. It's a shame because this set seems like such a great package. I hope you guys can get some satisfaction.

I got the regular copy and both discs are warped (the second is worse). I have heard multiple skips on every side. A, B, C, and D. Very upsetting because otherwise the actual sound quality is fantastic.

Also I'm listening on a crosley with a pretty heavy head that rarely skips even on vinyl that'll skip on other turntables. Unfortunately my technics needs a new needle and is currently out of commission so I cannot see how they will play on there.

Hopefully this gets fixed for everyone.

The packaging for the standard was incredibly surprising.  Sturdy sleeve, handwritten lyric sheet, download card, and sturdy sleeve inserts.  My vinyl was in perfect shape, no warping, even after enduring 6 hours in the 100 degree heat while i was at work.

I think it's a huge problem. They are going to have to do a major recall. There must be so many records distributed and unopened, people don't even know about yet.

Maybe this will be the new Butcher Cover Collectible!!

I didn't actually notice this until you pointed it out but disc 1 is well off center for me as well.  It plays but it can't be good for the stylus and is likely compromising some audio quality.  I have the standard vinyl as well but I'm not opening it yet until I find out what's up with this situation.

I did get an email in reply, but I think all it said was something like "we're looking into it." I'll go find it and report back.

EDIT: After further review, looks like all I have received is the automated we-got-your-email-and-will-get-back-to-you-someday response.

Man, this sucks. I did not order this, (I guess thankfully at this point).. It is sad since Patrick made the vinyl video for a promo! ha.. I guess something didn't get worked out. I don't think they "make it like they used to".. I have a lot of old vinyl that is in perfect shape, 60+ years old!

I played a Nat King Cole record last night, and that thing is a solid slab of perfection.

I hope everyone gets their vinyl problems flattened out!

I'm pretty sure the warpage wasn't the fault of the manufacturer -- I'm guessing somewhere along the trip to California (or beyond), a bunch of them sat in a hot place for too long. I buys lots and lots of new vinyl and hardly ever run into warpage, but shit does happen and I hope to get a replacement soon -- I REALLY want to listen to this record.

This is true.  I can't tell you how many warped records I've received from Amazon.  Packaging and shipping is where it goes wrong.  You can see that from some people getting Circuital in good shape.  My standard was in great shape.  Hope you guys get some help on these.
