Just watched the new MMJ documentary again to get ready for tonight. Would like to purchase a Wax Fang album. Any recommendations? Definitely going to see these guys if they ever come to Houston! Thanks!
They only have an EP and and LP I believe. There's not much quantitative difference between the necessity of having both albums.
Get LaLaLand
I have the EP "Dark and Endless nights" as well but its one man band demo really. Although the track sweet bloody murder is awesome! Ratterman plays the kit on LaLaLand and he rules.
I met them after a show a few years back and they were very cool. Went to see Aloha and they blew Aloha off the stage. Asked where they were from and after he said L'ville we talked a bit about the jacket. Who knew a few years later he would be asst engineer for Circuital. And his mug is on the insert a few times as well.
Guitar player/singer uses a looper a slide and a theramin. Pretty sweet and definitely original.
I don't know where the original WF thread is, but stoked I get to finally see the, again since Yum Center show. Zazoos Friday!
They are hitting up St Louis again as Dr Dog's opener. I do believe I will be attending that.
Damn that's a show right there!
Curious, where did you get that info... I'm hoping they open up in Bloominhton as well.

The venue's website. http://www.firebirdstl.com/ (http://www.firebirdstl.com/)
I did a search and couldn't find any info anywhere else however.
What's the deal with these guys? Is a new album on the way or not? It's been to long!

Seconded. Thanks to this board and joeyrogo, I totally fell for them. Need new album pronto
Not exactly prolific are they? I'm dying for new Fang. They are opening for Dr. Dog here. I had already bought Chris Robinson tickets for that night so I'm going to try and figure out a way to do both.
this may all be total BS, but this is what I think... They have professional lives. One of em is a teacher (I've been told this, don't quote me), and one has a family. Maybe they're just taking the band as an enjoyable thing, thus not in any hurry to tour/make new albums
I know Kevin is constantly doing other projects/producing/guesting etc.
This should be interesting:

damn not in louisville
Edit: announced another one next Friday in Louisville at my favorite bar. Mmmmm
Can someone give an update on these guys? I there going to be a new record?
This is awesome.............
WAX FANG'S THE ASTRONAUT (http://vimeo.com/18689382)
There will be a new album but I don't know when. Kevin has moved or is moving to Austin. Not sure what that means for the band. I saw Scott hanging with the bassist this Saturday but didn't want to ask. Hopefully they can stay together. There are only two fellows in this city who could possibly fill Kevin's shoes and Patrick already has a good gig. The other one is Van Campbell maybe they could recruit him, but he's also got a good gig or two with Bonnie Prince Billy and the Black Diamond Heavies.
Thanks Dylan. I really hope they can stay together. I would hate to see Kevin leave the band.
Met their manager getting some draft a few weeks ago in nash, he went to highschool with Jimbob and seemed like a good gent. Anyway he had killer pictures of them playing/recording(?) in the same church MMJ used. He wouldnt share any of the pics, especially ones with the big white owl hanging out in the church. Said they had finished recording their new album and had done the mastering on music row or were going to do it soon(?). Told me to download Astronaut pt. 1 & 2 from itunes and that it would blow my mind. Itunes only has pt. 1 for 2.99. Is that the right one to pick? Or do i need to keep looking for a pt. 1&2?
HOLY F. THANK YOU, This is the news I've been waiting for. I knew they couldn't be done. The ep. is insane!!!!! pt1 and pt2, = must have. The Church.....Just Get Ready.....Kevin in the church. YES, I want him producing this explosion in our brains......

Still confused here.. Where is astro pt. 2?
I don't know for sure... But maybe it's because there is a short version of the song and a full version
if I remember, they released it in 2 or 3 parts on their site? I would def go with the long/full version. It was like 17 minutes. I'd have to check on my laptop as I do not have it on my ipod for some strange reason. It's pretty bad ass.
Astro Part I was released at first in three parts. I don't think they have ever released Astro Part II.

Hardest working band in the business!

Hoping Wax Fang makes their way up to the Chicago area. Saw them once in Louisville, KY openeing for MMJ for the Halloween show a couple years back. The audio was messed up almost their entire set. They were very cool and ended with Astronaut Pt 1 and 2 which was phenomenal live!

Surprised no comments on the new ep. I love it. The third song sounds very Arcade Fire.
These fellas seem odd to me and I like that. However, what is up with their time gap between albums?
I'm definitely considering picking up some of their tunes.
Majestic is.....
Where are these guys? I want to see them live and hear their new album!
not a heavy touring band, thts fo sho.
didn't see them listed for Forecastle but am hoping they will play again on the local stage like last year. That's the only time I've seen them.

They confuse me; their music rocks, but they never have any dates or any sign of life. These guys need to go somewhere.
And I'd love to see them play Forecastle again.

Love this! Thanks for sharing.
That is awesome! Always thought Majestic could be on a Roger Waters album or The Wall or something like that.
Glad to hear there is a new single too! Just wonder if they will ever put out another proper full length.
I didnt read that article but I read another..... I'm intrigued to see a 5.5 minute song in its entirety in a cartoon with characters singing it. bold. The new single is on iTunes and The Astronaut is still forthcoming, which will be a full length album
I private messaged Wax Fang, on their actual "person" account over on Facebook. I asked them if the new material was going to include Astronaut Pt. 2 and be a full length album. They said confirmed this, and then went on to say there will be an Astronaut Pt. 2 and Astronaut Pt. 3 on the new album.
Did anyone catch the episode? I don't have cable, but would like to see it. Looks like it will be available FOX online on Monday.

Monday as in next week.... The site says episodes come up 8 days after the episode airs.

Yeah it'll be on Fox's site soon if it already isn't.
I caught it OnDemand yesterday. Wax Fang's music wasn't utilized as much, or as well, as MMJ's music was utilized on their episode, but it was cool regardless. Plus Majestic is a badass song.

I really hope Wax Fang makes it big off of their new album's release. These guys are way too good to just disappear. It is crazy to think La La Land was released in 2007. They haven't released any full-sized album for seven years.

Thanks - got one too, even though I don't yet have a turntable. This was too good to miss.
Look forward to hearing the new stuff.

I am super excited for this album. I love concept albums and I love Wax Fang.
The new album is great! I can't wait to get the vinyl copy soon.
The last minute or two of The Astronaut Pt. 2 sounds amazing. The guitar work and keyboard work on this album is fucking awesome.

It would be worth the wait. I couldn't resist the temptation .
Make sure to download your mp3 songs before tomorrow night though. It looks like the code expires tomorrow, unless I looked at it incorrectly.
Holy SHIT, this is good. I couldn't wait for the record, got the mp3s and am rocking it now. Looking forward to hearing it on vinyl!
Anyone else hear the new album yet? I'm really enjoying it. I would like to see them play it from start to finish live.
EDIT:
The more I listen to this album, the more I think it resembles a modern version of 2112.
Worth the wait.
Have any of you got your vinyl yet? I'm still waiting on mine.
I got mine yesterday.

That's what I am afraid of. My USPS guy likes to drop packages off at my door (I live in an apartment complex). I have complained to the office telling them to make the USPS guy drop packages off there like UPS and Fedex do, but I don't think they said a damn thing. Hopefully mine hasn't been delivered and stolen yet.
Did you get an email saying its been shipped or delivered?
Got my vinyl today!
I was emailing with Corey, their manager, and he had this to say about the album:
do yourself a favor and turn off your cellphone, turn out the lights, and blast the stereo for the ultimate listening experience. you will not be disappointed....
we're not doing any touring in the immediate future. if we do play a show here or there it won't include the astronaut. we do hope to one day be able to perform it in its entirety but until we have the resources to match the vision we have for the performance, we are holding off...but it will happen.
thanks for buying he record and let me know if you need anything else!
cheers
corey
Great guy...great band...buy this album.
I got my Wax Fang wax today, and I'm glad you got yours, EC! Cool message and good advice too.

Just the cover, a small cut with the tip of my knife, but right on the visor of the astronaut helmet, and plenty visible. I'm too used to there being at least one layer of something between the tape on the box and the album. Arrrgh!
This record defies all adequate description...it is so fucking good.

I just got my first copy of a Wax Fang record, It is Mirror Mirror and it is so delicious. I really need to learn to describe what i feel when i listen to records. It's good they are a tight band and i hope to see them live. anyone head Jessica Lea Mayfield's new record. i ordered it because my record store didn't have it. I hope it's good, i read its Grunge like and rocking vs. her more singer song writer self. Love her voice and music.
Wax Fang is happy to announce the following tour dates this Fall:

9/26 JJ's Bohemia (Chattanooga, TN)
9/30 WFPK Waterfront Wednesday (Louisville, KY)

Unrelated: one of my favorite moments at OBH this year was running into Ratterman after the Gary Clark Jr. set and geeking out on early Wax Fang with him and about how the Astronaut turned out the way it did. Great dude. He also said something about producing some MMJ stuff lately but whatever man, let's talk more about Wax Fang!
New LP?!?!?!?!? Suuuhhhweet!!
Yep.
