When his "blood filled with gold" during first light and then "radiates the gold" during slow slow tune.
Good thread because I really think this is a great lyrical album for Jim:
Wonderful: "I can learn from way back and still live right now"
Day is Coming: "You need it, thats for sure, you recieve but always want more."
Any ideas on what "gotta radiate the gold" is intended to mean?
Is it literal (applying radiation to gold), or is it referring to radiating (expressing, showing) a personal warmth and mellow glow? Or something completely else?
I like to think it's sharing the glow.
Wonderful : I'm going where there ain't need, to escape what is, only spirits at ease.
(In my head, this line runs over and over all day,)
Slow Slow Tune:
True, daddy is singing just for you
Do you hear 'em baby anymore?
Now that you've outgrown this slow, slow tune
Victory Dance: Taste the war paint on my tounge as it's drippin with my sweat. AWESOMENESS.
You Wanna Freak Out: "How you react is what you get back"
My entire philosophy summed up right there in one sentence. Beautiful.

This is my favorite lyric as well. I tell it to my gf all the time now...she's gettin' sick of hearing it. But shit, it's soooo fuckin' true.
"shaaaaaaaaaaa...."

I'm with you on this one. That line is great, as well as the lyrics to the entire song. This song perfectly sums up my (and I imagine A LOT of) relationship(s). My girlfriend definitely ain't gettin hers if she ain't gettin mine, and I wanna freak out all the time, and she knows how she is. (though she chooses to ignore it).
Other than that - "Somewhere in the future listening, I hope the present for ya's glistening..."
YWFO is my favorite song in all aspects of the record.

The whole of wonderful and slow slow tune are just lyrically genius
(Is that even a word lyrically? :o)
Wonderfull - Doesn't matter to me. I could take it or leave it
The Day is Coming - Bang bang, on the door. You open not knowing what for
Slow Slow Tune - Slow, daddy's playing just for you. The tempos right, i'm in a mellow mood
Moving Away - A new life to create. A new little life
Slow Slow Tune- "Grown with a meter all your own
You decide the pace you set the tone
The future now you own!"
Movin Away - "Don't know quite why
But I was feeling unsatisfied
I had to get out now
Trying to find it"

Moving Away is special to me as my wife left her home to marry me/start our life and family. So, two lines from that song:
I hope I'll always be what you want
&
But I hope your heart will be where my home is
Ouuta My System: "Chalk it up to youth but young age I ain't dissin" has a very Pete Towshend/The Who feel to it.
Holding On To Black Metal:
Oh, oh, oh, oh oh oh oh oh oh oh, yeah, yeah yeah yeah, yeah yeah yeah, yeah, oh

Take it for granted
this lifetime and whats up ahead
the day is comin
circuits connect the earth to the moon
and link our heavinly bodies
not a moment to soon
Take machete into the brush
where at first there is no path
with the sun on my shoulder and the wine at my back
i'll never grow older
if you don't live now
you ani't even tryin
you headin on your way to a midlife crisis
first I was an ancient
then I was an infant
now I am ALIVE
you decide the pace you set the tone
the future now your own

I like how he sings "Still Holdin On" during First Light in the same voice he uses for "On To Long" during Black Metal. This album flows really well lyrically. There is a story being told and it defiantly is encompassed by each song.
I think it's interesting how Jim says "you can fling open the windows or you can board em' up - satins jeweled crown or Christ's humble cup" It makes you wonder which relates to which. I think in the end his point to make you ponder that question it reminds me of when Kurt Cobain said "oh well, whatever, nevermind"
One of the things I've always loved about Jim is that he uses simple language to express huge complex ideas and feelings. "Don't let your silly dreams..."
I don't think it's an accident that the person in Black metal is "still holdin on" and the person in "slow slow tune" has "outgrown" To spread ideas and words across and album like that is just fucking amazing. Take it a step further and think about how "First Light" relates to "At Dawn"
I LOVE the name "My Morning Jacket"....thinking about how Jim expresses these feelings of conflict, confusion and frustration but is willing to push past them and use some inner light that isn't religion but holds some of the same ideas vs. how Kurt expressed conflict, confusion and frustration and was looking at drugs to push past them "Nirvana". It's kind of like, "ok, the days are coming, relentlessly and hard but here's my morning jacket, and Kurdt was kind of like fuck all this shit.....NIRVANA!!! Oh well, whatever, nevermind.

It was funnier the first 100 times..
what does one even search to find that picture...
"Oh black metal it's affecting all your speeeeechhhhhhh"
I feel like this sums up a lot of obsessive compulsions a lot of people, including myself, have. But also, I think this describes the band and their change in musical style over the years. During recording EU, they (mostly Jim) were listening to different music and letting it affect their musical style (in my mind a positive way), and I think their diversity as a band is what makes them so great in the end anyways.
the luster of youth versus married security
i'm glad i'm here now but just between you and me
don't much like the next couple of lines.
i like it open ended, like the sentence just trails off. (as many of mine do)
as a married man, this is a pretty true sentiment.
"They told me not to smoke drugs, but i wouldnt listen"
"Guess i just had to get it outta my system"
Easily best song on the album.

Hmmm. Maybe after Victory Dance, Wonderful and CIRCUITAL. I wish they'd left off "Slow slow tune & The day is coming". They really both break the flow of the album.

South version of lebrons what should I do commercial (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lZGV_BcUIZQ#ws)
now:
Should I close my eyes and prophesize
Hoping maybe some day come
Should I wet the ground with my own tears
Crying over what's been done
Should I lift the dirt and plant the seed
Even though I'll never grow
Should I wet the ground with the sweat from my brow
And believe in my good work
Should I hit the water or stay on dry land
Even though I've never swam

Any ideas on what "gotta radiate the gold" is intended to mean?
Is it literal (applying radiation to gold), or is it referring to radiating (expressing, showing) a personal warmth and mellow glow? Or something completely else?
i just assumed it came from the james bond movie 'goldfinger.' the villain goldfinger tries to blow up an atomic bomb in fort knox (located near louisville) in order to irradiate the gold in there, thereby making it useless and making his supply of gold very rare and valuable. i'll let others speculate on how that relates to the song.
favorite lyrics for me:
'there's a way to have it all you know i ain't kiddin
some things i know i'll never get outta my system'
'play it safe, play it cool
if you ever emote, you're playin the fool.
is that the way you think it is?
can't get yours if he ain't gettin his?'
